  1. One of my favourte H!iTG actors is probably starting to get too much work in high profile shows to be classified as such for much longer, but I submit for consideration - Tom Cavenagh. I remember liking him in a one and done role in Sentinel, and then him popping up in a bunch of my favourite shows in the 90's - Providence, Sports Night, Cold Squad... After that he had Ed which kept him busy (gosh, I miss that little show), but then from 2004 he became H!iTG again, popping up in a bunch of tv movies, as well as Eli Stone, Jack and Bobby, and, of course Scrubs (as JD's brother). Currently he is, of course, better known as Harrison Wells, but pre-2014, he was an awesome H!iTG... I agree with the mentions of Kavan Smith (Lorne!, Deputy Andy!) and Niall Matter. Also for consideration: Aaron Douglas. Sure, he is known for playing Chief, but he has been popping up on my tv screen in a bunch of different things for a while now - Flashpoint, Falling Skies, Eureka, The Firm, etc.
  2. I loved Alien Nation. High concept and very well executed. Definitely before its time! Another show that was probably more "never lived up to its potential" than "cancelled too soon" was F/X the Series. About a special effects guru solving crimes. Yes it was as hokey as it sounds, but for some strange reason I kind of loved it! Acting and accents were pretty bad most of the time, I cringed when they had "South African" bad guys on one episode, but it was just quirky enough to forgive its flaws. Then another show that was really not good but that I enjoyed for the quirkiness was Hope Island. Also starring Cameron Daddo from F/X. It was a lot like Ballykisangel, with a big city preacher coming to a small remote island. It was Everwood without the medical aspects!
  3. Some of my favourite characters are ones that are generally disliked including: ER - Lucy and Morris. I truly loved both these characters and their storylines. The Middle - Axl. I do not get the Axl hate. He is a pretty good human being all things considered. But then again I do not understand the total adoration that Sue receives either. BSG - Dualla. I really liked Dee and her relationship with Lee. (Until Lee turned adulterous asshole)
  4. On BSG it is a toss up between the much loved Col. Saul Tigh and the even more loved Kara Thrace. Both characters kept fracking up without learning their lessons until it was too late. On Firefly I could never truly get into the Kaylee character and wasn't a big Wash fan either. But the biggest ones for sure are the titular characters Buffy and Angel. I cannot rewatch either show due to my loathing of both...
  5. Ooh, ER UO's. I have quite a few. I didn't think the quality of the show went down all that much (with the slight exception of seasons 7-9 as well as season 13 [my personal least favourite seasons]). But even during those seasons there was still more to like than dislike. I HATED the Abby/Carter relationship - it turned them both into hateful, childish characters and almost ruined Carter's whole arc for me. luckily they saw the light and restored most of what I liked about them. Which leads me to my next UO: Carter is still my favourite ER character and one of my all time favourite TV characters. I liked that he was basically a good guy, trying to do the best he could. I know everyone saw things differently, but I thought he showed great growth through the entire run. Some other UO's: I loved Gallant, and hated what they did with his character. Never really warmed to Ray. Enjoyed Brenner and Tony's story lines. Enjoyed Benton's stories a lot more than either Doug or Mark And then for my biggest UO: My favourite female character was Sam. Sure, they had some missteps along the way, but I love the actress and her entire arc was mostly well written (in my very unpopular opinion. Last UO, ER is for now and will probably forever be, my favourite Medical Drama, and is very high up my top 10 list of favourite dramas ever. (Just behind FNL and BSG and very slightly ahead of SG1 [another show that I hold lots of UO's for])
  6. The guys: Frank Grillo - he very nearly stole the show from my favourite Chris (but just almost) in Winter Soldier. Old school Tom Cruise (Top Gun days) Denzel Washington Cary Grant (Especially in North by Northwest) Paul Rudd Mark Ruffalo - since his romcom days Shawn Wayans All the Chris's - Pratt since Everwood, Evans since Not another Teen Movie, Hemsworth since Star Trek and Pine since Just my Luck [don't judge] Justin Bartha Idris Elba Michael B Jordan George Clooney Ladies: Claire Danes Julie Andrews Thandie Newton Sandra Bullock Zoe Saldana Meg Ryan Isla Fisher
  7. I was extremely angry at the academy wrt the Crash win in 2005. I didn't think Brokeback Mountain was the best amongst the nominees (it was actually my third favourite from the list - with Munich as my favourite). But I have never had as much hate for an oscar winner as I had for Crash. It felt like a Hallmark channel movie with mostly poor acting to boot!
  8. Nothing by Quentin Tarantino. Nothing in the SAW franchise and Nothing by Francis Ford Copolla. Those are the big ones for me. And except for possibly Apocalypse Now and maybe The Godfather (although it looks dull!) I have zero interest to see any of them.
  9. Count me amongst those that loved the Life on Mars (UK) finale I didn't care for the sombre ending of Quantum Leap. Leave us with some hope people! SG1 had a pretty nice and rather low key ending, and the movies were great SGA on the other hand, felt forced and quite boring tbh. I Hated that Atlantis ended up on earth... I loved the endings of Numb3rs, ER and FNL, they felt like "events" but still quite real to life (and with each it feels like those characters are simply continuing on in some other realm) I have mixed feelings about the LOST and BSG finales. I feel the mythology on both shows got so convoluted that no ending could have been satisfying. A show that I can't remember at all except for the ending is Once a Thief (Canadian show by John Woo). Terrible show. And all I remember is that it ended with all the main characters being blown up in a massive explosion... Another Canadian show that featured explosions in its finale, but that was a lot more satisfying, was Flashpoint. Loved the ending. Yes, it was wrapped up quite neatly, but it was needed after the roller coaster final season (loved the season as a whole!) Finally, a cliffhanger that I'm still angry about was the ending of Now and Again. The Eggman cometh yet again... I loved the show and the last episode, but damn that ending was evil!
  10. Except in the one episode of Hawaii 5-0 where I applauded the one lady for taking of her high heels when she was being chased, only to have her be pushed from the first floor and the landing on the stiletto, which pierced her aorta. Seems it is damned if you do and damned if you don't...
  11. Furious 7 - the final tribute had me wiping away tears. Dear Zachary - angry tears like never before Taegukgi (Brotherhood of war) - manipulated tears that would not stop! My girl - such manipulation but man, I cried so much. Although I Haven't watched it as an adult - don't want to ruin childhood memories. Backdraft - I know it is through evil manipulation but man if I don't bawl my eyes out every single time! Swimming Upstream - Lesser known Aussie movie. I can't remember the film well, only watched it once and can't find it anywhere! But I remember a scene between the father and son (Geoffrey Rush and Jesse Spencer) that had me crying ugly tears. It is actually an uplifting and motivational movie, but that one scene was so raw it had me crying for a while.
  12. As a South African I'm quite happy about the news, although I do share the fear that his delivery is very different from Stewart's. I can however say, that I adored his Late night show this side of the earth. He actually copied quite a bit from the daily show, with some sketches and the like. Unfortunately it wasn't all that successful - mostly due to the political climate and race issues in general on this side. Can't wait to see what he does with this opportunity!
  13. I see Ackles as a Mark Harmon of sorts. Always able to get TV roles, but not able to break into movie stardom...
  14. I loved early to mid 2000's sci-fi shows. (As I'm not from the US I don't know whether they all showed on the scifi/syfy channel or not - but they were all in the genre). Loved Jake 2.0; Jeremiah; Jericho; Now and Again; Veritas (The Quest); F/X: The Series; Largo Winch (I realize it was more action, but always think of it in the same way as the rest); Mysterious Ways; Charlie Jade; and I'm sure there're some others I'm forgetting! Then there are two shows that actually had longish runs; but now doesn't seem to ever be talked about. Both are Canadian shows. Firstly it is Flashpoint - by far my favourite recent police procedural, simply because they didn't bow down to the lowest common denominator. Then a show that is probably in my top five of all time (at least seasons 1-3) but is very rarely discussed is Regenesis. Such a compelling, smart and excellently acted and written drama. They knew how to write complex science monologues and dialogues without dumbing down the characters or the audience. Please tell me there are others that loves this show as well!
  15. For me it's every Shonda Rhimes show post Grey's Anatomy - watched the entire first season of that trainwreck hoping it would get better - especially since everyone was comparing it very favourably to my beloved ER at the time. When I saw that the medical parts of the show was total crap and the "love stories" were going to dominate I cut my losses and haven't looked back - and haven't looked at another Shonda show yet... Except for Off the Map which I watched solely for Zach Gilford. Was very happy when that was cancelled as I couldn't see myself making it through another season... The Office - UK and US. Not even my love for Martin Freeman can get me to give these shows a try. Hate when I'm supposed to root for assholes! Agree with those who said any of the Kardashian shows as well as any Bachelor or other finding love show. Can't imagine anything more boring!
  16. One of my favourite South African "Ad wars". And that between a fastfood outlet and an insurance company to boot! Overall Nando's ads are usually very "spoof" oriented, and Sanlam has some of the sharpest and most styleful adverts in SA! If you have time youtube Nando's ads. It's a minefield but you won't be sorry (may just need to know the basics about African politics to really "get" all of them)
  17. Haha. Considering Taylor's confusion about the sport KP plays I found this reply quite funny. Kevin is actually a cricket player. And believe me you are better off not knowing who he is ;-) It may just be my biased Proteas love (our South African cricket team) but lets just say Kevin Pietersen has burned almost all bridges in the cricketing world - especially in England and South Africa. He has never known when to keep his mouth shut and as such has been known to run his mouth on dressing room issues as well as issues with the brass.I rewatched this episode the other day and found Taylor's mixup with calling Cricket a dangerous and aggressive sport and the audience laughing about it - since she confused rugby with cricket - not troublesome as such but still a bit uncomfortable, considering Phil Hughes death on the cricket pitch only a couple of weeks before the recording. Otherwise this was still one of the really good episodes this season
  18. Mr Pizza Guy. Very sad news!
  19. This is from a while back. But I'm in total agreement! Also agree with those that have said that Jake 2.0; Journeyman and Eli Stone also didn't get enough time to live up to their full potentials. The one show's cancellation that probably left the largest mark on my young psyche at the time was Sport's Night. I adored Dan, Casey and the rest of the gang. And still can't believe it was cancelled after only two seasons!
  20. Many of my favourite pairings (like Coach and Tami; Doug and Carol and Alison and Joe) have already been mentioned. Some I haven't yet seen mentioned are: Archie and Claudia on ER. (Although we didn't see much of them, I loved what we could see) Chief and Donna as well as Herrmann and Cindy on Chicago Fire. (See above) Sam and Will - About a Boy (Still sad that their relationship didn't work out) Mike and Frankie - The Middle Some relationships I really can't/didn't get behind: Carter and Abby on ER. (Absolute Hate - They brought out the worst in each other and turned the female in the relationship into a shrill shrew) Luka and Sam on ER - See above. Gabby and Matt on Chicago Fire - See above Mike and Paige on Graceland - Never seen a possibly good relationship (with fair chemistry between the actors) be ruined by such complete character assassinations as happened in the second season. I agree with Aaron Tveit (Mike) as he said in an interview. There is no way their relationship can survive what happened in the last episode...
