  1. Bragging rights and virtue signaling. I hope someone gave him a belt for Easter.
  2. Did we ever find out what happened to Spruge when Jessa posted a picture of him in an ambulance wearing a neck brace? That was such an odd post, especially without any follow-up. I would think that she would think this was good for a lot of clicks and attention.
  3. I was looking forward to the Summer Backing Championship, but Damaris is an automatic click for me. I absolutely cannot stand her, so I guess I won't be watching.
  4. DBD needed a nap. After all, he "preached" that morning. I'm sure that is more work than he is used to in one day.
  5. I wonder if their building has a rodent problem. Many years ago, I was visiting in Moscow, Russia. The church I attended was in an abandoned building where they had set up and furnished a very nice church in one section. The church had a cat. It wandered around during the service, would rub against the pastor's vestments, and then roam around the parishioners. You had to check your seat before you sat down to make sure the cat wasn't there. The cat seemed right at home, and no one minded that he "attended" the church service. I'm sure the building had rodents, so the cat had a full-time job. This video made me think the cat lived in their building. I was happy to see the cat was treated so nicely.
  6. I have a Victorian love seat and matching chairs in my bedroom. It is not at all for sitting, and I would not put it in my living room as the main furniture. I don't think any upholsterer could make it comfortable to use on a daily basis. This type of furniture is for decorating, not daily use. I understand that they wanted some period furniture to go into their period house, but taking up an entire room and expecting to use it is not a practical idea.
  7. I doubt Ivy would do well in a group where she has to follow directions, and where she is not getting all the attention. There wouldn't be anyone egging her on to do these "stunts" and taking her picture to post on line. She would have to follow rules and interact with others not in her family. It is very sad, and a waste of any talents she may have.
  8. Stuff can happen quickly. When my nephew was a child, he decided to climb up on the fireplace mantle and jump onto a huge stuffed tiger. He broke his leg. No one thought it was cute or filmed it for consumption by hundreds of total strangers.
  9. If Tim actually wrote that himself, I am impressed. Unlike any Duggar, he mentions her attributes and actually says what he likes about her. It was not all about him. Of course, he wrote nice things about his dog that he "loves so much", and we haven't seen hide nor hair of her for a long time.
  10. I lived in an Eichler when I was a kid. It's design was nothing like these two houses.
  11. With all these kids who have known each other for so long, I would not be surprised by a Duggar/Bates pairing. I'm kind of surprised that it hasn't happed already.
  12. I would be ready to go back home to my own life, too. I wouldn't have looked very happy, either. I can't blame Jeremy. That family now has many different outlooks on life when before they had to toe the line with JB. That must be an interesting group. I'm just glad I don't have to be one of them.
  13. I had no clothes for three weeks in Kenya when the airlines lost my luggage. But--my carryon had extra underwear, my pillow, my toothbrush and other basic necessities. I borrowed clothes from the other people in my group, and the airlines gave me enough money to buy some Tshirts and some shoes and socks. At least they were somewhere with a lot of stores and supplies. Rural Kenya, not so much. How could you travel with a baby and not have baby clothes and supplies at the ready? I wonder how soon their luggage was found. Mine arrived 3 weeks after I was home. I hope they packed good snacks. Maybe they learned a lesson in how to pack.
  14. Is this retreat sponsored by some organization, or is it all Jill? I'm sure she comes out ahead financially in any case.
  15. I expected something to come out about the Bates show cancellation by now. Aside from a few updates about a few of the kids, they seem to have dropped off the earth. I wonder what happened.
  16. Woke up this morning to beautiful sunshine. The wind has stopped (for the time being), but it is very cold. They are predicting possible snow showers this afternoon, but it should be very light. Another storm is expected next week, but I am enjoying the beautiful weather now. This has been a very odd winter. @Salacious Kitty, did you get a lot of rain yesterday? I hope you aren't having much flooding. I can imagine how green everything must be.
  17. The storm started about 15 minutes ago. The wind has been blowing since yesterday afternoon, and is really fierce now. Big fat snow flakes are blowing around. I feel like I'm in a snow globe. I haven't seen wind like this for a long time. Stay safe, everyone.
  18. Am I the only one that cheered when Sophie broke the engagement? I thought her character was cute, and she was a good match, for Humphrey on Death in Paradise. I do not like her character on this show, and I would like to see him happy with someone else. The mysteries are good, and I hope there will be more episodes--just without Sophie. Maybe Simon can make her happy, but I hope Humphrey moves on. Edited to add: I was expecting Humphrey and Sophie to solve mysteries together, and for Sophie to be more excited and involved with his work. The show is going a direction that I did not expect. It makes me feel that Sophie's character is really not adding anything to the show.
  19. I'm pretty sure it is HER car and RV she is posting about. I don't think she would show much concern if someone else had vehicle problems.
  20. I'm watching the Giants/A's game. I'm sitting by the fire under a heated blanket, wearing sweat pants and sweat shirt, and both cats are on my lap. But at least the sun is shining (at the moment) and today's snow on my sidewalk and driveway is nearly melted . The weather is just plain strange everywhere this year. Now if the insurance company would just get my last tax document ready, I could file my taxes. The CPA is taking his sweet time. Luckily this document is a one-time deal, but I am getting antsy to get filed. Everyone stay safe, warm and dry.
  21. I woke up to about an inch of snow this morning. The rest of today and tomorrow should be good, but another storm is coming Tuesday. At least today's snow seems to be be melting quickly.
  22. Yep. Snow/rain Tuesday and Wednesday here, too. This really is getting more than tiresome. Our temps are below normal, so I'm hoping we will hit the high 40's this week. I thought there was about 50' of snow in the mountains, but the paper today said over 56' is on the ground. We would need 10' more to break the all-time record (since they have been keeping records), and, while that is probably not going to happen, I actually wouldn't be totally shocked if it did. The weather this year is just goofy.
  23. We are supposed to get more rain/snow this week, but last week's rain storm did melt the snow piles on my lawn. The ski resorts just announced that they will be open until July 4, so they have "mountains" of snow. 50 feet is the last I heard. I think all the chain restrictions through the mountain passes were lifted yesterday, but I still don't want to drive in the mountains. Avalanches are a real thing. Temperatures are below normal, so flooding has been at a minimum so far. The way this winter has been, snow all summer would not surprise me. This is the second all-time snow record, and we would need another 20 feet to pass the high record, so I will settle for coming in second. The snow is pretty, but, my goodness, enough is enough already.
  24. I really dislike the commercial that says "we promised Dad we would keep Mom at home". Maybe that is not what is best for Mom. My dad wanted us to promise to keep Mom out of a nusing home. I promised I would make absolutely sure that that she was in a situation that was the very best for her. In both their cases, it was assisted living. Often, emotions get in the way of reality regarding care for our loved ones. Neither my brother or I could be with our parents 24/7. We hired in-home carers, and one of us checked in every day. After a couple of falls, they were moved to a beautiful assisted living facility. We were in a better situation than a lot of people because we knew a lot of the administrators and staff, but one of us was there every day so our parents could make a better adjustment. It actually cost much less than the in-home carers. I realize everyone's situation is different, but this worked for us. No one, including TV commercials, should make a grown child feel guilty for finding alternative care for their parents. Everyone wants the very best for their elders. Just because a parent "doesn't want to move" is not a reason for not having the best of care. Jill's Ma would be so much better off if she could live somewhere without a hoard of uneducated, delusioned people around telling her what to do.
