  1. Yea I don't see the incident at thew debate being a huge issue for someone like Roy. I assume Stark county doesn't have a huge population, and a big percentage of his base is probably his cult like followers. And then you have all the people he has either helped or has dirt on, like the nurse who basically ignored a woman asking for help because Roy threatened her family. For the rest of the voters a lot of what they hear about the debate would probably be rumour or second hand stories, the kind of thing they could easily brush off. My read was that he knows Lorraine doesn't like Dot, but he felt bad for her, wanted to help her and didn't want to risk Lorraine taking him out of it (or telling him not to). Dot was his client too, so as his last act was to put the needs of one of his other clients ahead of the needs of Lorraine.
  2. I am enjoying this season but I suspect that a big reason there seems to be a lot less going on is that it doesn't have the crazy deep bench of talented, recognizable actors doing small roles like seasons 1 & 2 did. I mean those seasons has people like Kate Walsh, Nick Offerman and Ted Danson in supporting roles and Bruce Campbell and Stephen Root doing but parts. This season is mostly being carried by Juno Temple with support from Hamm, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Dave Foley. Also what was the deal with that crappy tracker that Gator was using. It had a light and a little gauge which would probably make it a pain to use. They had a bunch of tactical gear that they stole so why no GPS tracker. And I finally realized who Wayne reminds me of. He looks like a young Ted Raimi. And I will take that as a Coen bros shout out since Ted's brother Sam directed Evil Dead which Joel was the assistant editor on. And Sam Raimi's early movies inspired the Coens to get into directing since if some other regular guy from the Midwest could make real movies, why not them.
  3. If Dot has some blame for the cancer guy being killed does she also have some blame for the state trooper and the gas station attendant? If she hadn't run away from Roy and been living under a fake name, and if she hadn't jumped out of the car when her kidnappers were pulled over they wouldn't have been killed either. It's not that different from the scenario in the hospital. I can have sympathy for the dead guy without blaming Dot, since in both cases the blame goes to the murderers.
  4. Well Roy killed him and Gator and the other guys kidnapped and tortured him. Blaming Dot for their crimes seems a little close to victim blaming for me. Also Roy shooting that guy and him staying alive for a few seconds with a hole in his forehead was one of the more disturbing things I've seen on tv in awhile. It seems like it would be kind of unethical if she did. I mean Lorraine isn't the target of any investigation, but she is involved. So taking a fancy new job (pay off) from her during it would seem kind of questionable. That speech was crazy. I can't believe she held it together long enough to point out that if she is expecting to be a traditional wife that cooks and cleans and takes care of him then that requires him to be the traditional husband who gets shit done and brings home the money to support them. As for why she doesn't leave I wonder if she thinks she is in too deep. I have never been divorced but my understanding is it is expensive. And with how much debt she currently has perhaps she is afraid that a divorce would just add to that. Especially if she had to pay any kind of spousal support since she was the one who made money. Also just a small thing but the young actress playing Scotty is doing a really good job. She really seems like a real kid not a middle aged writer's version of a kid.
  5. Watched it tonight and thought it was ok. Better than Eternals and Ant-Man 3 and maybe Wakanda Forever. But basically what made it gold was the three leads and how well they worked together. But there was some dumb stuff too. Like did no one really question if it was a good idea to borrow a major plot point from Spaceballs? And I was kind of annoyed that the whole use your powers and you switch places wasn't at all consistent and only happened (good or bad) when the plot required it. And the Marvel nerd in me really wants to know how Carol starting the Kree civil war lines up with the Kree Empire being at war with Xandar in the first Guardians movie. And the super nerd I am is annoyed that the movie ended with a jump point putting the sun at risk, since that was the comic book plot of Avengers: Operation Galactic Storm. So that probably won't happen in a movie. I liked in the end how Kamala's family were moving into Monica's house but it was weird that she was only wearing one band. I looked it up and it seems Carol was wearing the other. But why not let Kamala keep it since I am not sure Carol needs the power boost. I did really like Monica's costume she got at water world. And the material things on her sleeves was a cool shout out to the comics.
  6. I am not a doctor but I am an engineer who has done some sprinkler system design, and sprinklers "going crazy" always annoys me. If you look at a fire sprinkler there will actually be some little device that sets it off, usually when it gets too hot (like if there is a fire directly below it). And from what I can remember the piping for sprinkler systems is usually designed based on like 10-15 going off at once. So if a huge area of sprinklers were activated at once there wouldn't be enough of a water supply for all of them to spray like they do on tv.
  7. I am just going to tell myself that this was Munch's ancestor to show how his family has always been forced to do really bad shit. Because the supernatural stuff in this show has always been kind of dumb. I mean the space ship was funny but the afterlife bowling alley was stupid. My thinking is that the trooper suspects that Gator has something to do with the kidnapping and his partner getting shot. Better to build a case and let the idiot incriminate himself doing something big (and maybe get him on accessory to kidnapping and murder) rather than bust him for stealing evidence.
  8. I wonder if it would be 100%? Like if he is going to be spending 200 million dollars or more on a movie he probably does get to select the director, but I would be surprised if he didn't have to run his selections by Iger for his boss's approval.
  9. So far this season has been pretty good. I am not sure it can possibly be as good as seasons 1 or 2 but hopefully it will be better than 3 & 4. I am also curious how it will connect to the other seasons. I also really hope we find out what caused the riot at the PTA meeting. My first exposure to the Coen Brothers was Lebowski so I laughed a lot at the suggestion that Dot kidnapped herself. And I did like how the ice scraper was used as a tourniquet. Are we sure this series isn't secretly a sequel to Home Alone. What with the traps here and season 2 actually having a McAllister in it. One thing that always impressed me about Jon Hamm is how much he can change his character just by how he carries himself and his facial expressions. Even within Mad Men he was slick fancy confident Don Draper then he was like a when his hair was messy and he was slouching a bit. It was crazy how effective it was. Also after Gator deleted the photo off the deputy's phone I really wanted her to just say she would call the station and get someone to email her another copy. I mean it's not like she took the mugshot on her phone.
  10. That's true and I looked it up , because I couldn't remember, and there are a bunch of scenes in Black Widow where people should logically be speaking Russian and they aren't. Which is apparently something that annoyed David Harbour. At the same time I still think this (and Shang-Chi) using a ton of subtitles are sort of like Marvel saying we can do whatever we want, even if it goes against conventional wisdom and people will still watch. On a related note there has been a bunch of interest coverage on this episode in Canadian news because the translation of the script was done by Mohawk language experts from Akwesasne. And one was used as the design for Kahhori.
  11. Most of my knowledge of US immigration laws comes from TV (either fiction or nonfiction shows) but my understanding is that if you are on a work visa it's tied to your job. So even if somehow UK citizen Neela could get a residency spot and a work visa it would be tied to her being a doctor I think. So she couldn't quit being a doctor like she did and just live on Abby's couch without getting deported could she? Is that why they had her marry Gallant to get around those issues?
  12. I can't remember, did they ever give much backstory as to why Neela didn't study medicine in the UK? From what I remember her parents weren't super rich, so I have to imagine that UK med school tuition would have to be cheaper than tuition for an international student in Chicago. Plus they never really explained the whole immigration status thing. Like med school I guess she had a student visa? Then work visa to be a resident. But my understanding is that work visas are typically tied to a specific job, so when she left her residency wouldn't she have to go home, rather than being able to work at a convenience store?
  13. I could be mistaken but I suspect that Seth doesn't know what clip will be used. Just based on his reaction some of the times. It is a really smart way to repackage all the crappy unusable jokes into a really funny bit.
  14. With Stamos it honestly seemed like they wanted their own version of Patrick Dempsey. Oh I also forgot Rob Lowe as an option for that type of actor, but at that point he was coming off West Wing I think and it seems like he took a bunch of failed shows where he was the star. No way he was going to join another show where he was part of an ensemble. Not until a few years later when all his shows failed and he joined Parks and Rec. They also missed the boat with Busy Phillips. I can't believe how little they gave her to do. I saw a quote from her where she basically said she would have stayed on if they made her a regular cast member. But they kept her as like a reoccurring role so she walked. Probably for the best though sinc if she stayed on ER she might not have gotten Cougar Town (last season of ER ended April 2009 and CT started that September) and for awhile that was my favorite show.
  15. That was the weirdest thing for me. If you are able to wield the stones why not use them to dust strange? She is a soldier so killing someone super powered trying to kill you shouldn't be a big deal. Overall I think What If works better as crazy one off stories. The continuing storyline didn't really work for me, plus it was really hard for me to remember what went down last season.
  16. Stamos might not be my most hated character addition but he is easily in the top 5. His joining the show just seemed like they wanted a dark haired 80's heartthrob type of actor to have a bunch of inappropriate sex (wonder where they got that idea). Tom Cruise would never do it, Robert Downey Jr was on the verge of rebuilding his career (Zodiac started filming in 2005 the same year Gates first appeared), and even Charlie Sheen was already on two and a half men at that point so who else was left? Judd Nelson?
  17. It was cool hearing Cate Blanchett as Hela but I didn't really care for that one. I didn't really buy that Hela would turn good. Once she got her crown back I was totally expecting her to be like "nope" and quickly kill Odin. Plus there were a lot of weird little things. Like if Odin could strip Hela of her powers and enchant her crown why didn't he do that in the main timeline to prevent her from coming back? And in the big fight at the end, if Hela was essential mortal, shouldn't a punch to the face from Odin done a ton of damage? Also if she says that Frigga is Odin's girlfriend then who is Hela's mom?
  18. It was cool that almost the whole thing was subtitled, and subtitled in two different languages no less. It reminded me of when I watched Shang Chi and seeing how much of that movie was subtitled and thinking how far Marvel had come that they can basically do whatever they want. Because looking back to phase one, Captain America First Avenger had Nazis talking to each other in private and that movie has them speaking English.
  19. There was some really impressive animation in this one. Peggy fighting Steve on the water tower and Natasha fighting the widows in the shot up room like a silhouette both looked really cool.
  20. I am not sure about that. In between What If season one and this I watched all of Harley Quinn and Lake Bell's Natasha voice doesn't sound very different from her Poison Ivy voice. I guess on the bright side she can maybe say that this was her final MCU project rather than that piece of crap Secret Invasion. The Hulk Hogan thing is extra funny, since when the Hulkster first became famous he was introduced as The Incredible Hulk Hogan. And because of that The WWF had to license the name Hulk from Marvel comics for many years. As for Werner, about 95% of what I know about Werner Herzog comes from Seth Meyers doing impressions of him on Late Night so that was pretty funny.
  21. Are there places where you can just get prime video? I live in Canada and you can get an Amazon Prime membership which comes with video, the basic music streaming, free shipping and photo storage. It's $99 per year. You can't just sign up for the video only membership. In Canada you can sign up for Amazon music unlimited which is actually cheaper if you are a prime member.
  22. If they are trying to make money off the membership/subscription price itself (rather than using it to get people to buy stuff) then I am surprised they didn't make like an ad supported subscription for just Prime video. Then make it so for a bit more you can get full prime with all the benefits and no ads. Because it is all just disposable income. So if I were to spend money on the ad free version odds are I would just buy less stuff from Amazon. Right now I won't be paying. I don't watch too many amazon originals. And if I wanted to watch a classic movie or something I might just check to see if Tubi has it out of spite.
  23. If I remember that storyline Susan was pissed off that Carter took her spot. But the dude made a big enough donation to design and build a huge new hospital building. I imagine even if there weren't any open tenure positions available they would make one for a millionaire doctor who donates that much cash.
  24. It was weird, I liked in the earlier seasons how when they did the outside of county episodes they found different places to go. Some worked and some didn't. Then once they started going to Africa that is all they did and they got super repetitive.
  25. Especially Disney money for under an hour of work that requires no make-up or costume prep or anything like that. Her Nebula voice totally works for that kind of story.
