Aftermath in the Media

Absolutely, Ruprecht! And how sweet it is! -
The "lawyer?"!!! That's the best they can do? Okay... check this out: https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/spycatcher/200912/the-body-language-the-eyes As several above have mentioned -- her constant blinking. That drove me nuts! Did I actually hear "Second Season" for Leah's expose', or was it only my wishful thinking?

Aftermath in the Media
Maizie131 replied to zxy556575's topic in Leah Remini: Scientology And The Aftermath
fastiller - I like Comcast's synopsis of the show way better: "Scientology: A War Without Guns" "Ex-members of the Church of Scientology who crusade against it; actress Leah Remini discusses her fight against the Church of Scientology and her goal of making it lose its tax exempt status." ...And, for the hundredth time as I've done over the past couple months watching her docu-series, after reading this, I say out loud, "YES! Leah - You go girl!!!" Network TV once again, and combined w/her past couple months on A&E...I'm convinced this little lady's gonna shut these assholes down! (Can I get an "AMEN!!??" - hey - we're talking about closing the doors of a "church," right?)- 507 replies

lordonia - really appreciate your posting the ratings stats. Could you by chance get them for the rest of the episodes? THANKS! -
Why couldn't Dr. Now do gastric by-pass on her, but only gastric sleeve? Did I miss something?

What a shame next Tuesday is the last of Leah's expose'. I truly believe it will be a major catalyst in bringing down this horrific cult.- 238 replies

Have no intention of watching it, hoosiermom. If anybody does, let me know if you're convinced OJ's innocent. :)

Small Talk: Kings and Queens
Maizie131 replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Leah Remini: Scientology And The Aftermath
On the American Heroes Channel (AHC) today I watched "The Hollywood Syndicate" episode (originally aired this past July) after I read the synopsis: "Examining some of the common conspiracy theories surrounding Hollywood, including suspicions about the activities of the Church of Scientology..." (Got MY attention!) Anyhow, the last 20 minutes were devoted to Philip Seymour Hoffman, star of the movie "The Master" (about a charismatic cult leader) who died of a drug overdose a little more than a year after its release, despite being "clean" for 23 years. Featured are "clips" of Tony Ortega, John Sweeney (author: "Church of Fear"); Placido Domingo's wife (member for 20 years); Juliette Lewis; our very own Leah Remini, Kelly Preston and John Travolta. Another clip of Tony Ortega has him stating that "although Scientology likes to mess with people, and scare them, and destroy their careers, but accusations that Scientology has had people killed is - I think - an exaggeration." Outlandish conspiracy theory? Hmmmm...I'm thinkin'. -
And Happy New Year to you, too, Brat! And the same to all my other "murderous freaks" (per AKraven) on this forum! LOL!

That Evil Lives Here episode reminded me of another show that was on I.D. about a woman who married a man who had custody of his young son. As the kid gets older, he starts drawing pics of his stepmother hanging & stuff. They tried to get help for him, too, and I think he was even committed to an institution for awhile. Anyhow, didn't work for him, either, and he wound up shooting & killing a bunch of people at a shopping mall. I was amazed that woman stayed with her husband as long as she did before filing for divorce. I would've been outta there waaay sooner.

trow125 - Just wanted to thank you for your post and putting quotes around "church." Every time I see it it capitalized and w/o quotes I get pissed off. Let's call it what it truly is --- a cult that's responsible for devastating countless lives.- 251 replies

I hereby nominate Evil Lives Here as having the scariest “intro” music of all I.D. programs...kinda reminds me of Psycho. Those screeching violins scare the shit outta me every time. Anyhow, last night’s program (“Not My Boy”) was disturbing & heart-wrenching, even tho I knew about 10 minutes in I recalled the story from Forensic Files. I really felt awful for the parents…can you imagine? I’ll give them a “B” for trying to get help for their son early-on, however, when the father hired him to work in the family company and the mother felt ice water running thru her veins at the thought -- and didn’t voice her concerns to her husband -- I lost a bit of sympathy. What did you guys think of this one?

S01.E02: Fair Game
Maizie131 replied to Tara Ariano's topic in Leah Remini: Scientology And The Aftermath
Thanks for posting link to video, Moose. Viewed well over 2 million times! Wow. Be sure to read the comments under video. One that struck me the most was: "This video is hilarious until you realize that Scientology actually does that to people. They get away with abusive and sadistic practices because of their status as a religion." -
LOL! What a sweet sentiment, AKraven! And the same to you & yours. (GREAT song!)

S01.E04: A Leader Emerges
Maizie131 replied to Tara Ariano's topic in Leah Remini: Scientology And The Aftermath
Okay, Juliet, since you started it -- I agree she looked gorgeous, however, she's gotta cut those nails! What's up with that? -
When these former cult members Leah is interviewing break down and start crying (uncontrollably ... they're truly embarrassed), it damn near brings me to tears my heart aches for them so. I think Leah's doing such a great thing. Hope to hell all these ex-members collectively can find some way to bring this "church" down. I'm still amazed the government hasn't yet. Unreal.

Watched last night's Pandora's Box "Tainted Love" episode about the grade school principal & little kid in his school that was kidnapped (along w/the principal). Question: Did I just have one too many rum & cokes or was this a really confusing story to follow? I gave up after about a half hour. I don't wanna think that hard when I'm watching these shows! Shit!
-
WAY cool, Auntjess! Very nice diversion from murder & mayhem!
-
Absolutely she should've been sittin' on his lap! And would you believe that bitch actually chose to live in MY State of Michigan after she was so wrongfully let out of prison?!? Unreal. Are teenagers fucked up? You betcha, but what she did goes far beyond the pale. Brattinella - I was tempted to look up the name given in the description of next week's A Crime to Remember but I won't. Doesn't sound familiar to me, tho, so this is good.
-
Must admit that I was disappointed with A Crime to Remember, too. The Starkweather case has been much-publicized over the years and as others have said, there wasn't anything new. Oh well, maybe next week...
-
I understand, tobeannounced when you mention it's a bother to comment. Many times I'm "too pooped to participate" as my dear ole' Dad used to say. Wow! We're finally getting some action on this thread - so great to see you. Brattinella - I KNOW you must have something to say. C'mon girl! Enlighten us with your witty comments. You, too, Walnutqueen. (And all my other "friends" on this forum.)

Great to hear from you, too, AKraven! I agree w/you about the 80s & People Magazine shows - I've watched them & they're not too bad. Dontcha just love Bill Kurtis?! I think the reason why we love Cold Case Files and Forensic Files is their half-hour format to tell the story, instead of muddling through an entire hour of horrible acting & ridiculous "filler." ...And I can certainly identify with you re: holidays --- good news is that, for me, anyhow, the alcohol goes a long way to tame the rage. However, I don't drink any more. I don't drink any less, either! (Ha! I love that line from "While You Were Sleeping"!)
-
I've missed all of you! I know the reason is there hasn't been shit on I.D. channel to talk about, but tomorrow night will be fun, right? (A Crime to Remember!) I do wish they were featuring a case I'd never heard of, but just the same I'll watch for sure because the show is just so well done. Anyhow, I've really been enjoying Cold Case Files (with Bill Kurtis) on the Reelz channel. The last couple I've watched are from 2002 and even though I'm certain I'd seen them 10-12 years ago because I never missed that show, they're new to me again because I don't remember them (recall....I have C.R.S. disease: Can't Remember Shit). In any event, if you get Reelz, it's on Mon.-Fri. @ 2:00 p.m. -- that's when Comcast airs it, anyhow. Hope everyone is good & I'm looking forward to talking about A Crime to Remember with you!
