  1. I got Heinz right away, because of the 37 varieties thing. I was pretty shocked at ...was it Dan? not getting Virginia Woolf--"A Room of One's Own" is the sort of essay that people who haven't read it know about.
  2. Speaking of The Hollow Crown, Socialite Life has a gallery of 25 pictures from the filming, mostly of Benedict in armor and ahorse during battle scenes. *** Radiotimes has a rather charming piece in which Judi Dench tells her version of Benedict Cumberbatch's "shocking" Richard III proposal.
  3. If I recall my statistics classes correctly, you need 1500 to have a statistical universe; even a random (and it MUST be random) group of 1000 has a high margin of error. 70 is meaningless, statistically. (Small groups like that are only used properly in medical/science studies if they are looking to see if a hypothesis is worth putting the time and money for a REAL study into.)
  4. I rather liked the early seasons. Actually, I liked them a lot, even though there were things in them I enjoyed criticizing.
  5. Side note: Schlock or schlocky is from Yiddish, meaning cheap or shoddy, not romantic! I think you mean schmaltzy, which is also Yiddish, which means cheesy, overly emotional. :) (Side side note: schmaltz is also literally rendered chicken fat, but it means the above if you're not talking about food.)
  6. Someone in one of the other threads (maybe the Pilot thread?) suggested that babies that were going to be used in Mengele's experiments would be tattooed--and yeah, probably. (Sorry I can't remember who you are, "someone"!)
  7. I got both the Olympics and 1984, but I have NO idea where the 1984 came from--I certainly don't actively remember it!
  8. There are multiple sources showing the new poster for Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, which features Martin: Here's the one on Hypable. *** Likewise, MANY sources report that Martin is to star in a BBC film about the Eichmann triel; here's the Digital Spy piece about it: Martin Freeman Eichmann drama to lead BBC's Holocaust memorial season. I'm not sure I'm on board with the idea of a "Holocaust memorial seaon"--what, is it something it's okay to forget about the rest of the year?--but the film sounds like an interesting take on the trial.
  9. There is also a new, longer trailer for The Imitation Game out:
  10. I have no answers, but those questions made me laugh a lot! :D
  11. Really? I can't get signal at all in most of the stations, aside from the elevated platforms (and in trains on elevated tracks). But then, I have a stupid phone.
  12. There are articles about Benedict's TimeOut London cover article: RadioTimes: The real story behind Benedict Cumberbatch's U2 photo bomb Anglophenia: Benedict Cumbebatch's Photobomb is all Ellen Degeneres' Fault Independent: Benedict Cumberbatch reveals red carpet highlight was photobombing U2 at the Oscars And from TimeOut themselves, there is a GIF from the not-used pictures from the photoshoot, as well as a link to the full article (which has yet more photos).
  13. I call foul--I have that book, and there is NO entry on the word "murder." There are many entries on subjects that begin with the word "Murder," which is a different thing altogether.
  14. Eh. *rocks hand side to side*
  15. Eh, it's silly but fun, and it's a pleasant place to rest the eyes for an hour. I'm in for now. (But they do have to explain the super-observer stuff--how does not-dying make you a super-observer? Sherlock--in both canon and the BBC series--spent years training himself, it didn't just happen!)
  16. Mary died in the original stories, so I assume she'll die in the series as well...and/or the baby (which didn't exist in the books at all). If it's Mary, it would probably at the end of the next season, since they have said that they didn't bring her in just to kill her off immediately; they might kill off the baby early, though, since a baby is very much in the way of an adventure story, which this series is.
  17. I believe that to appal(l) means to produce feelings of shock, horror, dismay, disapproval, or the like; I took that sentence to mean, "Mycroft, don't annoy/anger me when I'm high."
  18. I was thinking Fred Astaire, but (obviously) no.
  19. There's a very short little video on the DreamWorks Facebook page: Watch Benedict Cumberbatch and John Malkovich, the stars of Penguins of Madagascar, interview each other in our "Breaking the Ice" video series!
  20. Benedict was at the Young Patron's Bright Young Things Gala last night: Mail Express *** And another piece about Benedict's turn in The Imitation Game from the Daily Bulletin. (It's not clear whether it was an interview or a general press thing or what, but the piece quotes Benedict quite a bit.)
  21. There's a long video about the making of Fargo on the Telegraph website, including quite a bit from and about Martin: Fargo: behind the scenes with Martin Freeman.
  22. These two look like they are reports from the same talk, interview, or event (it's not clear from the articles): From The Telegraph: Martin Freeman: Playing Richard III has done me in From Digital Spy: Martin Freeman laughs off 'screaming girls' Richard III reports
  23. There are a couple of articles about a short interview with Dame Judi Dench: From RadioTimes: Dame Judi Dench talks Benedict Cumberbatch and Richard III From The Telegraph: Dame Judi Dench says Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch is a true gentleman
  24. From Time (and just about everywhere else on the interwebs), a photo of Benedict as Mr. Darcy. (It's for charity!)
