  1. Sherlock’s Andrew Scott up against Sir Ian McKellen for top radio award. (Source: RadioTimes)
  2. Looks like they are beginning to shoot the special: Mark Gatiss's tweet from this morning.
  3. There's a quite interesting interview with Benedict on The Wall Street Journal website. *** It seems that W Magazine is releasing 7 different covers for their movie issue, one of which is Benedict and Kiera Knightley. There are more photos and some text if you click through the gallery at Refinery 29. You can see all the celeb photos at the W Magazine slideshow, and I do not like ANY of them.
  4. Interview with an Australian site, news.com: Oscar favourite Benedict Cumberbatch says up close George Clooney is `rather squidgy’. (Never fear, the article makes it reasonably clear it was a joke. Although his poor publicist must have daily heart attacks!)
  5. Look what show is among those spotlighted in this BBC One 2015 trailer...
  6. Interview with Rupert Graves in the Telegraph: Rupert Graves: 'If I need cash I'll do anything, I don't really care'. He talks a little about Sherlock, but it's mostly about his career overall. *** This seems to be taken from an interview with Amanda Abbington, but it doesn't say if they did the interview themselves or, if it's from another source, what that source may be, so take it as it is: Martin Freeman And Amanda Abbington Make Pact To Limit Time Apart. (source: ContactMusic)
  7. It won't be in the paper until Sunday (or at least, until Saturday, when most of the weekend sections are delivered), but it's online now: The New York Times has a nice article about Benedict in their "Awards Section" this weekend, Showing the Smarts to Play the Genius. And Epix has a roundtable (in this case, a coffee table) discussion online and Benedict is one of the participants: Hollywood Sessions: Lead Actor. (If you'd like a little preview, Bustle.com has a clip, along with an explanation, which as it happens I needed to understand the joke.) It's well worth the hour, it's a very interesting group.
  8. I thought it was a translation? I don't suppose any of the judges knew whether descendant was as good a translation as children.
  9. If you're a vote-y type of person, Benedict is one of the choices for Breakout Star of 2014 in USA Today's Take Your Pick poll. (It's a short one, only three categories.)
  10. Vulture has published more bits from their Benedict interview. (BTW, I think Benedict is dead wrong about Sherlock being a sociopath--what he is is self-centered and willfully oblivious...most of the time.)
  11. Me, I thought that Pulaski was a much more believable doctor than Crusher, and I would have been just as pleased not to have to deal with Crusher's blowing hot and cold on Picard for all those seasons. Once Pulaski got to admire Data, I liked her quite well.
  12. From the Standard: Benedict Cumberbatch and Stephen Fry join 'Save Soho' video campaign. Interesting that the headline reads that way, since Benedict says exactly two words in the thing. (He's up last--BTW, surely he must be in costume from Richard III there?): *** And the Salt Lake Tribune has another Imitation Game-centric interview with Benedict.
  13. And another Gatiss interview about Sherlock from India, this one from Vogue India: Secrets from the Sherlock set. (Spoiler alert: There are no secrets revealed in the interview.)
  14. Some art showing Benedict as Doctor Strange--tweeted by the movie director, so it might be fan art or it might be concept art, no way to know: Is this what Benedict Cumberbatch will look like as Doctor Strange? (Radio Times)
  15. Interview with Mark Gatiss about Sherlock: Mark Gatiss: We're never going to reveal anything. (India Today)
  16. I just enjoy the error of spelling it "baited"! (Because I'm like that. I adored the hung/hanged joke in TGG, too.) *** This interview with Gatiss is largely about Sherlock, but not entirely, so I'm putting it here. (If it needs to be moved, feel free or let me know!): Sherlock and Game of Thrones Star Mark Gatiss. (NDTV)
  17. Another Imitation Game-related interview: Benedict Cumberbatch has a genius for multitasking. (It branches out some.) And the Independent, in yet another Imitation Game interview, managed to get a quote about the Sony response to the hacking--there's a video clip here.
  18. According to the Mirror, Sherlock and Doctor Who writer and producer Steven Moffatt has seen his royalties quadruple over the past three years thanks to the success of the shows. (My favorite line in the article: "While Sherlock fans are waiting with baited breath for the next installment of the detective series,..." I suppose we are trying to catch a Cumberfish thusly.)
  19. Social media is media, so I guess this belongs here: Sherlock Holmes's return generated the most tweets for TV on Twitter
  20. From the Carpetbagger blog at The New York Times, there is a quite interesting piece about costuming The Imitation Game; it seems Benedict worked quite a lot with the costume designer. Surely that's quite unusual?
  21. The London Critics' Circle nominations are out, and Benedict got two nods, for Actor of the Year and British Actor of the Year.
  22. Maybe from Kiss Me, Kate? You know "I've come to wive it wealthily in Padua": "Fair Verona" popped into my head right away, but I wasn't 100% sure whether that was the right play. I was sure enough to go with it, but I had a mental question mark.
