  1. LOL! Actually, that's a good point. And it is a pretty good joke. So thanks! I had no idea Maryland had red necks! I'm learning so much today.
  2. Well, nuts. That's why the clue specifically said Maryland. I'm in the Great Midwestern Land of Deer Hunters, where businesses have to close because everyone is off "sick" (translation: hunting) on opening day. I guess the good old boys around here bow hunt while the upper crust hoity toity in Maryland perform archery. Thanks for looking that up and posting. I stand corrected! More than once I've passed some woods, a bunch of pickups parked around it. Then I drive a bit further and there's the big buck galloping across the field and over the fences, leaving all those boys in its dust. Makes me laugh. It's common to see deer crossing the fields south of me; my horses will spot them and look, it's amazing what they can see.
  3. I remember being an age when I was going to live forever. It's just recently that it's dawned on me that I could die any day, from a variety of things, natural and unnatural. But I distinctly remember those years, pre, during and after college, when I was golden. Thinking back, I was pretty lucky to make it this far. Lots of us did dumb things. Mackenzie was lucky to have people who cared about her. I'm sure they all feel guilty about her death though. I wanted to ask that police guy, the one who said, "People disappear all the time on their own," to give me some concrete examples of people who voluntarily disappeared, and be able to prove they did it on purpose and are still alive. I don't think he'd be able to come up with one, much less "all the time" multiple examples. So irritating, some of the attitudes these cops cop, just so they don't have to get out of their chairs and DO something.
  4. I saw you were wearing someone on your new T but didn't know who it was. Now that I looked at your profile, it's obviously Trebek. I also like your snappy red bow tie. It's very Buzzy. Approval granted! Thank goodness you showed up @Sharpie66. I was worried you up and died or something. Don't do that to poor saber again!
  5. I've not seen it as a J clue, but I haven't been watching as long as others. It's an interesting article, I did not know non-husky breeds had been banned from racing and it was interesting to learn the Poodles had to be trained to pull. I saw the Poodle musher on a Carson rerun not that long ago. Some years ago a person I know from the upper Midwest who had some of the best Alaskan Malamute show dogs in the country decided to train a team for the Iditarod. It was a big deal and all the show-dog magazines covered it. Unfortunately, her dogs did not perform well and withdrew shortly after starting the race. They were just too big and heavy for the task. The "huskies" that are used as sled dogs don't look a thing like Siberian Huskies, they are smaller, more wiry, and crazy to pull the sleds. That would be a great FJ clue some day. @Driad and I would get that answer, which for sure would be an asterisk!
  6. Welcome new players @Minaboo, @suebee12 and @PBnJay. I hope more will join us this season. @opus, your new Season 36 look is a good one and suits you well. Me likee!
  7. WEEK 1 — ONE asterisk * *1. Biblical Archaeology. A site excavated since 1899, Tell es-Safi has been identified as this Philistine city, home to a giant warrior. * 2. 1960s TV History. The 1967 finale of “The Fugitive” drew in 78 million viewers, surpassing the 73 million who tuned into this show Sunday, Feb. 9, 1964. 3. Children’s Books. The original title of this 1900 classic included a gem; another working title mentioned a Plains state. 4. American Museums. President Johnson signed a law that added 2 words to the name of this museum established in 1946, D.C.’s most popular. 5. Presidential Candidates. This is the most recent presidential election year when both major pres. candidates were residents of the same state.
  8. I have a nitpick with the hunting clue about Maryland having three hunting seasons, the third being ... ARCHERY? WTH show, there is no "archery season" and there are no "archery hunters." The correct term is bow hunters, they hunt during BOW SEASON with their BOWS, not their archerys. And it's not just Maryland, most if not all states have three deer seasons: muzzleloader, bow and rifle. Rifle is last, to, you know, clean out all the animals the other two seasons missed. Interestingly, one can bow hunt during rifle season, but one has to use a crossbow during muzzleloader season. Ask some redneck if he's going to hunt during "archery" season, and he'll kick you out of his pickup truck. And Trebek, bows come in different weights/strengths for pull/release, and there are compound bows too. They require different levels of strength to shoot the bow. So a 90-pound weakling and a 300-lb. strongman will use different bows. You pick your bow based on your ability to pull combined with what its use will be. Trebek needs to stop with his impersonations. His Hitchcock wasn't good but I'm sure it helped everyone everywhere answer that clue. So irritating. I about freaked when that $2000 clue answer was "Leonidas" and Jason answered correctly. Just to wave my banner again, Leonidas was the FJ TS last season ... ya'll remember, when I was the only one to get the asterisk that week. It was my one day of glory in that contest and I'm not going to forget it. As for today's FJ, as soon as I saw they wanted the year, I slapped my money on the table and said, "I'm out." -- TM Kramer
  9. @peeayebee beat me to it, but twitter-embedded videos won't play for me so I viewed it where Alex Jacobs posted it on YouTube, Check it out: YouTube genre Watch to the end, it's quite funny.
  10. Yes, late entries are accepted. I post the clues from each week here so late comers can play catch up. Everyone is always welcome to play, but it has to be from week one to be eligible for contest prizes. I'm hoping to answer today's clue so I'll be tied with you for the week.
  11. What was the clue for filly? I did get a glimpse of the pic of Patsy in between the tv picture breaking up and disappearing, but didn't know it was a TS. I would have rocked the country music category, being a hill jack at heart. Figures. Because you're older and your walker doesn't have wheels? Bwahaha ... I crack me up.
  12. Hey, I'm good with any scores anyone wants to post. Want to count Golliathtown/ville? I'm good with that. So far this week I'm tied with Opus, who posted his score for this week last week.
  13. Well, due to the fact that it was raining somewhere in Iowa, I lost every single channel this afternoon. Jeopardy went from pixellated blue squares to a floating "You've lost your channel" box. I didn't hear one complete clue or one complete answer. I spent the half hour moving the antenna fractions of inches to get two words to come in before the floating box reappeared. I did look at FJ earlier and it was an easy answer, a no brainer since I've been there and seen the Spirit of St. Louis and Apollo 11 ... and the Enterprise ... The Smithsonian. Go figure they wanted the official name of that individual building. Thanks a lot for passing along your bad mojo ju ju, @lb60. Glad YOU had a good day. /snark/
  14. Because he's too occupied looking at his own reflection to notice anyone else.
  15. That reminds me .. I wonder if TPTB knew Piff was going to do a 60-second commercial for his Vegas show before doing his trick with Terry's watch. And speaking of watches, who wears a watch these days? Just try and find one. I like the idea of a finale made of acts sent home. That might be some good teevee.
  16. After reading that article about Puth not recording that song -- which is the total and only reason for this show -- I have to agree with you. Good on you for spotting it as you watched, while I was all suckered into thinking he was a sensitive nice guy. He probably even had a bottle of Visine in his pocket to create that tear rolling down his cheek as he lamented about his days as a struggling writer. Eh. At least the show gets a second season so that's good news. As long as Puth isn't invited back. I saw Ester Dean on Hollywood Game Night too and only knew her because of this show. But I've never seen Pitch Perfect all the way through, so there's that. She wasn't as pop-culture savvy on HGN as I thought she would be. I still like her though, she is quite beautiful and seems nice. (Just not Charlie Puth nice thank goodness.)
  17. A valid point well made. With all the emphasis these days on anti-bullying and being PC and Being Open Minded and Loving, how many of the finalists don't have a sob back story. Two, maybe three tops? It's unfortunate that AGT giving a kid who used to be/is bullied a million bucks won't stop all the other kids in America from getting beat up in the play yard. Gosh, I'm cranky today.
  18. That was so whack since Lollapalooza is a huge MUSIC festival and Ester's profession is music. Good thing that segment ended quickly before all the players went WTH. I love Joel McHale on everything. He'd always be my first choice if I were picking teams.
  19. I thought of you when farrier went through my mind, even though I knew they were looking for blacksmith. (It would have gotten a BMS from me to you.) A good friend who is a farrier is also a blacksmith. He shoes at all the major training barns and at the big shows, then creates metal objects to sell when he's not shoeing horses. I bought one of his spice spoons. I'm too poor to buy his weather vanes or coat racks! More than one farrier has made me a horseshoe-nail ring while they were forging shoes for my horses. So, IMO farrier is an occupation that crosses over into smithing.
  20. Here's what Andy posted on yesterday's TheJeopardyFan.com about FJ: "L. Frank Baum wanted his classic 1900 children’s novel, The Wizard of Oz, to be titled The Emerald City. However, according to the Afterword of a 2009 reprint by Collector’s Library, the Hill Company, the original publisher of the book, was superstitious against titles including the name of precious metals; they refused to publish the book until the name was changed. Eventually the book became known as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz; many reprints now omit the word Wonderful from the title, to the point that even the Encyclopedia Britannica article specifically gives it as an alternate title." I was stuck on "Little House on the Prairie" for my answer since the clue specifically said THE WORKING TITLE of this book. Who knows what the "Little House" working title was, it could have been "The Diamond Gold Prairie." I didn't think past that, so never would have come up with the Oz book. /failure/
  21. Tyler would be just like everyone else in the franchise, leave the sidepiece at home while you go on to increase your followers and status on the famewhore list. Gigi knows how this works, she'd be back with him after he dumps whomever it is he pairs up with on TB. Am I too jaded for this franchise? If so, then I also vote for Luke P as TB. Might as well bring the crazy from all directions. Plus, as Judy said, he's purdy.
  22. I wonder if they are the same, just changed the name. I had forgotten The Kings won WOD. Good catch on that. Wow. Looking at @ams1001's list, there are only three acts out of 10 that I like in the finale. Not that anyone on this show is asking me. Wait, they DID ask me. I voted, too. Oh well.
  23. While I don't remember the wording of the clue, the definition of smithing is "the act or art of working or forging metals, as iron, into any desired shape." So I rule you correct. You may add a TS to your score.
  24. Man, today is Thursday, who remembers Tuesday? :-P
  25. So much this! Although maybe @lb60's bad week is because of all the Jeopardy James déja vu. Trebek was irritating me to no end today with all his Jeopardy James talk. At least my neighbors are far enough away no one can hear me telling him to STFU. I suppose we are going to hear about him every day now, all season long. It's the Season 36 drinking game. Maybe I'll start early and pass out so I don't have to hear Trebek's fangirling.
