  1. I am glad this show is back! Good return and very effective in showing us an origins story of Ivar the Boneless, another of the great Viking leaders, clearly somebody quite terrifying but still effectively humanized I thought as "The Outsider" of the episode title. The difference between Game Of Thrones and Vikings among other things is that GOT gets its rocks off with monsters like Ramsay Bolton. In contrast Vikings doesn't shy away from the monstrous side of certain characters while showing us also their humanity. And this show is much less exploitative of its female characters - case in point when the powerless slave who seemed destined to be strangled by Ivar saved herself through her words. The program after, "Real Vikings" was very good too. I felt happy for Clive Standen ( who has always been so enthusiastic about the show and his character) that he got to touch the resting place of the bones of Rollo of Normandy. One could tell this meant a lot to him.
  2. Major misstep to have Depp be the villain. I wish Colin Farrell would have continued.
  3. I watched the preview trailer for next season that was linked in the media thread. Looks like here comes the odious vicar. I remember this character vividly from the old show, and I also remember disliking him more than George.
  4. I thought Demelza's behavior towards Ross was not only understandable but quite cheer worthy. How many would be able to resist from being "bitchy", "nasty" and "offensive" after your partner cheated on you and in such a callous manner?
  5. I never noticed! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-3773715/The-secret-Poldark-pug-New-heiress-character-never-seen-without-beloved-dog-producers-used-pet-hide-real-life-pregnancy.html
  6. I like "Carolight" as their ship name, ha. This being a soapy melodrama I am sure their travails are just beginning. Every time I see Caroline's uncle I mentally go, "Hey, why aren't you in Midsummer solving more bizarre murders?" I am glad Demelza and Ross sort of reconciled at the end - for her sake, not for his. I wouldn't have taken him back as present day me. And how forgiving would the audience be if Ross wasn't played by such a gorgeous and charismatic actor?
  7. To me Letty's mom lost any right to whine about Letty's flaws and various fuck-ups when she decided it was okay for the "fuck-up" to baby sit the son as long as mommie dearest was payed for overlooking the restraining order. Despicable indeed.
  8. George is so insecure in himself that of course he has to remove Geoffrey Charles from the home he now shares with Liz the Priss. He can't stand any reminder that she was another man's wife before him. So first goes the portrait of Francis and next his son. If the new baby looks like Ross living at Trenwith will be truly hell.
  9. Wrong thread for the episode you are talking about - you want to be in episode 10 thread.
  10. I am glad Dwight and Caroline are back together. They are the romantic pairing that I had thought Ross and Demelza would be before Ross cheating on Demelza ruined it for me.
  11. That was a great little moment wasn't it? If two actors can convey so much with one look at each other - that's chemistry. They are into each other. Though neither and especially not Letty are at all ready to admit this.
  12. Is Elizabeth supposed to be likable in the books? I just don't like her in either the old or the new show. She has always had it easy and yet she is never satisfied. She is passive in a way that I find irritating. She slept with a married man without any regard for how this would hurt the wife - the wife who had shown her a great kindness and sacrifice in the past. It isn't just that I like Demelza better than her. I like every single other woman on the show much better than Elizabeth. Caroline. Verity. Nana Poldark. They are all so much better than Elizabeth as human beings.
  13. I am liking Christian very much, he is bent too in his own way and besides her feelings for her son he and Javier are the only positive influences in her life. Yes, I do think Javier is a positive influence on her. The show clearly wants us to think that and I do think it even without the show hitting us with a clue by four. That he tries to curb her various harmful addictions is a biggie, but there are also little things that show that he means her well. But for the plot contrivance of him being a hit man he comes across otherwise as pretty straight-laced and - middle class? He doesn't even have a prison record.
  14. Me too. I am preparing myself for this most likely being a one season show and it's going fast at the rate TNT is airing the episodes. I did not expect the second new episode either.
  15. It's the opposite for me, I find the show most compelling and tension filled when Letty is in scenes with Javier. I find their scenes not only well-acted and full of genuine chemistry but also quite funny at times. Like when Letty was listening to her motivational crap and Javier was asking whether the speaker was a friend of hers.
  16. The thing I learned from this episode is that I am never going to to drive a Tesla across country. You learn a lot during road trips and stressful situations about people. I especially like learning small little things like Letty's vision problem and Javier trying to help her by giving her his glasses. When the guy picked her up to drive her to the tow truck she dealt with him in such a amazingly cold-blooded manner.
  17. Lettie's mother is such a nightmare, and then such a mama bear when you least expect it. Lettie's son is lovely and sweet natured and thoughtful. I thought the town was awful and her "friends" were awful even before it all went to shit. Sometimes you just can't go home again. I was as relieved as Lettie at the end to see Javier. There is something important missing when he is not around for most of the episode. And obviously Letty thinks so too since she conjured him up at the most inopportune moments through the episode.
  18. I was really surprised at how much Larry especially grew on me throughout the six episodes. I disliked him very much in the first episode. Does Spiros have a wife? He and Louisa have chemistry and he would certainly fit in with the family.
  19. Happy endings all around! Charlie got his much deserved violent end. The cynic in me very much doubts that Aafrin and Alice will be allowed by racist society to be happy together. But I wish them the best. As for Ralphie and Madeline cohabiting with Cynthia - I am chuckling thinking about it. Oh, I hope those crazy kids make it.
  20. I would love for someone to mess with Liz the Priss and good ol' George. I thought in that scene Caroline was only making an attempt at polite conversation while trying to pump them for info on Dwight.
  21. Yes, the reason is she is a main character. I vastly prefer the Dwight/Caroline romance even in its interrupted state to the "romance" of Ross and Demelza. I love Demelza but Ross can jump off a very tall cliff for all I care.
  22. There is a badass in this series and it ain't Ross - it's Nana Poldark. I am glad that Demelza didn't cheat on Ross, not for Ross' sake but for her own. This takes place during the Georgian Era, doesn't it? Much racier time period than the Regency and the Victorian age. Didn't certain dandies wear red-heeled shoes, powder and patches?
  23. Well, I was right about Louisa and Sven not being right for each other, but oh so wrong about the reason. Here I thought he was too straight for all these endearingly bent people.
  24. The first thing I ever saw Michelle Dockery in was this period drama series. Before Downton Abbey. Tom Hiddleston was in it. And Judi Dench. I remember it was very good and she was very young and of course beautiful in it. Obviously for Letty and Yavier to have any kind of positive relationship he would have to let her go. If she then wants to stick around him that might be foolish considering him being a hit man. But their relationship would take a step towards being on more equal grounds. Right now he knows a lot about her and she knows almost nothing about him - other than that he is dangerous and that she is attracted to him. I don't get a rapey vibe from them though.
