I saw maybe 5 seconds of that show. One of the girls (I think in her twenties) had a boyfriend and Toby and her brothers and maybe her mother too were all over inforcing rules about how much they could touch and stating the necessity of chaperonage for their daughter. The girl and her boyfriend were holding hands. I get not wanting your kids not to go too far when they're teens and hoping they'll follow the values you gave them when they were young as they get older. But most of my fundie-lites didn't do chaperones and guess what the majority of the kids seem to have waited until they got married. (At least as far as I know. ;) ) Chaperoning in general seems overprotective enough with teenagers. But once the kids are adults, they should be encouraged to leave home and allowed to define and enforce their own values. I didn't get the sense the Willises wanted their kids to leave home anymore the Duggars do.

I would like to run a marathon, but I don't much about it. Have they worn their mama bear, papa bear shirts before? I can't tell if the shirts are weird or cute.

The Lonely Js Club: James, Jackson & Johannah
Temperance replied to SpaghettiTuesdays's topic in Counting On
I bet Amy would still talk to him. (Grandma and Deanna too.) -
It's Anne with an E, not Anne with an A. Anne Shirley, aka Anne of Green Gables, aka Anne spelled with an E, prefers Anne spelled like A-N-N-E as opposed to A-N-N. Ruby Gillis is one of Anne Shirley's friends. They're both from the town of Avonlea. I reccommend the books.

the wedding colors seem to be teal and gray. Melanie was a bridesmaid. From Chelsy's blog; Here's here explanation of the outfits: "At the end of the day, the dress I chose for my bridesmaids was this Beachcoco dress in teal blue. I was a little worried about how it would look to have a cami underneath-I really was not interested in a frumpy look and I was pretty concerned about that. I realized that a white cami was not an option-it would stick out to much and just look weird. However, I realized that if I had grey/silver necklaces that had a lot of detail around the neckline, it would layer well on the cami and the necklace would be the focal point, not the camisole neckline underneath. I found grey camisoles at Walmart for $1.64 each! I sewed up the straps a little bit on them and they were good to go. The necklaces I used for my bridesmaids were also the same kind that my sisters and I wore at the double wedding and they were from Walmart as well. I loved this bridesmaid dress because, first of all, it was super flattering on all of the different body types + sizes. Secondly, it actually was a maternity dress, but it worked out great for all of the bridesmaids. It was one of those styles that could easily be maternity or non-maternity. It was even nursing-friendly for the two nursing mama bridesmaids! Thirdly, I loved how practical it was---it isn't a typical formal and so it isn't limited to only formal events-it was perfect for a number of occasions. And it was SO comfortable! (I know this, because I even got an extra one for myself, to wear later, and I love it)"

OMG, so cool! @Ruby Gillis and @annewithaneee posted in a row. I love both of you! So glad you're both alive, in Avonlea (an Avonlea viewing party right?) and watching Ru Paul. I hope L. M. Montgomery is watching from afar and as excited as I am. (People not in the know Anne spelled with e is Anne of Green Gables and Ruby Gillis is one of Anne's classmates and friends. )

I have lighter moment for this thread, which this thread could use. Chelsy Renee Bontrager Maxwell has been doing a lot of blogging. She has time to do a full write-up about her wedding (from December) and posted lots of pictures. She did part 3 of her wedding on her blog Tuesday. Her parents decided they needed to post pictures of her wedding on Wednesday. Today (Thursday) her in-laws decided they couldn't be outdone and posted pictures of her wedding. Normally her in-laws, the Maxwells, only update their blog Monday, Wednesday, Friday, but they changed the schedule and posted more wedding pics on a day they don't usually blog. It could be this was all planned by both families (maybe in lead-up to pregnancy announcement) or it's just people trying to stir up interest and one-up each other.

Asia O'Hara's Martian look reminded me of The Wiz. I didn't get Miss's Cracker Alaskan/Hawaiian bikini. I loved her other looks. I really appreciated that some of the queens did skier chick, so we didn't all Ice Queens for that part of the challenge. The elimination broke my heart a little tonight.

Maybe Bobby picked Tori, partly because of the rising star that is the Bates brand and he wants to have a big ministry. Also he liked her, and she's beautiful and smart. I can't comment on her personality, since I've never seen the show. I'd like to see the supposedly progressive Bates, let one of their daughters live on her own and not have a boyfriend, but that doesn't seem likely.

Yes it's possible and it depends on the individual woman, but most women statistically can't have too many babies past 40, and almost all women stop having babies at 45.

Yes, they were asked why they didn't use the name Julie or Julia? (Juliet/te wasn't trending yet.) They said it was because Julie was a girl JB had a crush on. It doesn't seem like they dated. My memory says that Michelle was the first girlfriend JB ever had (he was about 18). They (JB and Michelle) talked a lot about the names when they were still having kids. They claimed the J-names were an accident. Go ahead and watch early seasons of the show (19K&C) to see if this is correct.

If Jessa is pregnant by the end of the summer, all that means is that she doesn't believe in family planning/birth control. Most people who don't use any form of fp/bc end up pregnant within a year's time and usually within the first four to six months. The odds go up for women under 35. It isn't because she's a bitch or competitive, that's the reality of their lifestyle. It's not lifestyle I would chose or believe in, but it's what they believe or at least how she was raised.

First Jill R makes fun of women wearing pants while either quoting her daughter Nurie, or putting words in Nurie's mouth. (Hard to tell) Now, she makes fun of women who have c-sections. She does realize her heroes the Duggars, both wear pants and have c-sections. Michelle and JB may not like their girls wearing pants, but it seems likely they would be upset with someone criticizing the girls to their hearing. (Actually JB and Michelle might not object or be upset, but I think most people would.) My point is Jill shouldn't be critical of things the Duggars do if she wants to be closer friends with them. Jill's diatribe against c-sections is sick and nuts. There is nothing wrong with having a c-section. I think there is some prejudice against them in general that is more prevalent in their culture.

TDS 3.0: Season Three Talk
Temperance replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Daily Show With Trevor Noah (2015-2022)
Tyra stuck her fingers in Trevor's Dimples! Also Scott Pruitt is bad news. Wish he was out already. -
I have no idea if Jill put sunscreen on her kids. It would be hard to tell from the pictures. Sunscreen would be easy to throw in a bag/stroller, etc. When they were hiking, they lacked hats, sunglasses, etc. Some people have a hard time not getting burned like my friends with red-hair and freckles.

I wonder if Jeremy is the tinest bit disappointed that it's not a boy. It's sexist thinking, but I could see Jeremy wanting a son to carry on the name. Having a son and carrying on the name are things that are important to some of the Italian-Americans I know. On the other hand, it's more publicity for them, and having a daughter is great, and he can have plenty more children, since they're young and she's a Duggar. My hope for them is the next one is a boy, because I think having a girl and a boy might seem like a nice family for a while. Anna can no longer claim she has the only granddaughters, so that's good. Jill will be the most envious, but they probably won't name the baby Selah if that's still the name she wants. I'm not sure Jessa will be care too much.

Wait, they're still in Colorado. I thought they were in Arkansas when they celebrated Israel's birthday. On the cornbread, Michelle made a giant cornbread for atleast 15 people and only put in an eighth of a cup of sugar. Near us, the store-bought cornbread lists sugar as the number one ingredient.

Keep in mind Gothard is not in charge of IBLP. There is a board, who runs IBLP now. @Lady Edith didn't say Gothard, she said IBLP. IBLP was founded by Bill Gothard, but he was fired by the board after multiple sexual abuse allegations against him. (as many as 34!) I don't know anything about his brothers. Also what scientology is famous for is making it hard for the people to leave. The Duggars have been IBLPlite for a while (@cmr2014 explained it well). If IBLP was sending people to spy on the Duggars, the point would be to keep them in the fold, and make it harder for them to leave the group. Edited to add: I just reread what Lady Edith said and yes she did say that they were trying to ward off possible scandal. I agree that IBLP has enough other scandals to worry about. So I agree there, but it's interesting theory anyway.

I could see them thinking they could handle pre-school at home, but maybe starting school at kindergarten or later.

I agree the chaos of the TTH may be something Cathy wants to avoid. Good points! I think Cathy is retired and I don't know about her husband. Dan definitely works, so he probably had to work. Then Cathy would want to spend time with Derick and Dan together and their families. That seems logical.
-
Looking at the pictures on the wall in the photo with Derick's family, there is a photo of Dan and Deanna. The other photos I can see are of Jill, Derick and their sons. Most likely not the Duggar house, because there would be more photos of other Duggars. I think it's Derick and Jill's place. Obessing a little about pictures: In the photo with Derick's family, I can't tell at all what the photos in the brown frames. Dan and Deanna have white frame. I can't tell but the brown frame next to D&D looks it might be the picture of Michelle sitting on JB's lap kissing him. I could be wrong. JB and Michelle have a photo of themselves kissing Jinger that shows up often in pictures of their house. But in the pinata photo, all I saw was a group photo and a young Michelle and JB photo. In the photo, where Israel is sitting in high chair under happy 3rd birthday sign, you can see they still have Christmas cards up. I 've seen other people do that, because the photos are now in the cards. We keep the cards, but don't display them.

Joy and Austin: This One Time At Family Camp
Temperance replied to frenchtoast's topic in Counting On
There is kind of a millenial thing. People share their stories. Usually it's more in line with say the metoo movement where assault survivors tell what had happened to them to raise awareness. If these people are rich and famous, they share their stories and give money to that cause. I've also seen people use "Thank you for sharing you story" sarcastically when people overshare or make a big deal out of nothing. It also seems to have come from schools among mainstream society. Little kids share stories about the weekend. Kids caught whispering are asked "Anything you want to share with the class?" -
I'm wonder if the little boys are Kendra's/ Lauren's brothers. The little girl with the glasses looks like a mini-Kendra.
