Joy and Austin: This One Time At Family Camp
Temperance replied to frenchtoast's topic in Counting On
But we've speculated before (particularly Jessa with Spurgeon) that the midwives didn't want the publicity and that's why the family made it look like they were delivering the baby. There may have been a midwife there(Theresa?), who didn't want to appear on camera. So Jill played the part. -
Jessa didn't tell them. They have "inside sources" who claim to know she's pregnant. But this is a speculation/"our sources say article" not a official she's telling them. Considering they were suing In Touch, they probably aren't ready to give them an inclusive even for $. It wouldn't be surprising if she was pregnant, because that happens to people who don't believe in birth control. But this article isn't proof and she may not be as far along as they say.

Is it possible he's a cousin? Most of the relatives would be from Michelle's family, so they wouldn't be Duggars. That would make JB his uncle though. -

It's available if you have TLC TO GO which I don't. Two webisodes. The still from the second episode looks like a c section to me. Blue sheets covering everything except Joy and the baby. Does anyone have TLC to go and is willing to watch? I went over to FJ and found they're talking about the news. I assume a few of them have TLCTOGO. This news makes me sad. Why do the Duggars keep taking such risks with their daughters/selves/wives and their grandchildren/children? Joy didn't even have a vanity ultrasound for the gender. She wanted to be surprised. (Meaning not that everyone should find out the gender or have a vanity ultrasound, but she may not have had an ultrasound.) I'm depressed by this news. -
Jeremy has one sister and one brother and both of them reasonably support themselves. I tend to think Cathy does somewhat support her adult children financially, but that's speculation.

I stil think Derick was infatuated with the Duggars as this big loving Christian family as seen on television. I think he missed his dad and was looking for father figure in JB. He had already lost his dad and his mom was facing life-threatening cancer. I don't like Derick, but I do think he was in a very vulnerable position to be scammed. Jill was 23 when she got married. It's ridiculous that she didn't have some money saved from filming since the series debuted. Since she turned 18. It's ridiculous that the rest of them don't have access to the money. I wonder now about their courtship. Derick and Jill were more heavily chaperoned than any of the other kids. Their phone conversations were listened in on. On their wedding day they needed a chaperone to call his sick mother and ask if she felt well enough to attend the wedding. Most of the other kids seemed to have time alone to talk with their significant other. Maybe JB thought Derick the accountant would ask questions about the money.
-
If you're refering to when JB pressing him about not going into debt while he was engaged to Jill, he also said he wouldn't go into debt for medical bills. I always thought he was telling JB what JB wanted to hear.
-
Jill should have had money from all her years appearing on the show. I think all the kids should have some compensation for appearing on the show. I don't how it would work for kids who are minors, but Jill was 18+ for most of the show. She was 18 when Josie was born! She had turned 18 in May. (Josie born four months early so Michelle wasn't pregnant yet, but would be later that year). Jessa is only 18 months later. It wouldn't surprise if JB had convinced his oldest kids then to sign the money to a family trust and convinced them to keep the system as they got older and older.
-
I agree Derick should be willing to move on. However if the money that the kids are earning is going to some Duggar Family Ministry Business, which means they don't have access to the money they earned that is exploitation. The kids/couples/families (like the Jill Dillards, Jessa Seewalds, etc.) should either be paid directly by TLC or have their own family businesses that receive the money. It's possible the kids get the same money that TLC pays to the Duggar Family Ministry Business. It seems more likely that a portion of the money stays in the family trust where only JB has access to it. How big a portion of the money is hard to say. JB would then be able to spend the money as he sees fit and giving it out as he wants. JB and Michelle were seemingly fired from TLC and yet rather than move on they may have found a way to profit on the new show. As for TLC, they have been dealing with Jim Bob Duggar for over a decade. By this point, they should know who they're dealing with. Why did the Duggars need a reality show in the first place? Exactly.

I had a feeling when he got married that Derick was looking for a father figure in JB. He reminded of those kids who wrote Shirley Jones/Mrs. Partridge and asked if they could join the Partridge family. Never realizing it was fictional. I didn't predict Derick acting like this. If you had told me how Derick turned out, I would have been surprised and alarmed. Derick completely believed everything the Duggars told him about special they were. Now he's disillusioned and bitter. I always said that Jill was the most devout of Duggarism. She would never have married someone who didn't think her family was super special. I don't think Jill knew enough about life and feelings to understand infatuation which often leads to disillusionment.

yeah start a thread (series of tweets that go together and form a narrative) and just say what you need to say. We're listening.

TDS 3.0: Season Three Talk
Temperance replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Daily Show With Trevor Noah (2015-2022)
I didn't like the segment about sex robots. I thought Desi and everyone else didn't really clarify or finish the ideas they were trying to represent. The problem with a robot sex doll that looks close to human is that it makes men forget that women are people and may have their own feelings about whether or not they want to have sex. If a man is surrounded by robots who look like real women and always accommodate his sexual needs, then what happens when he goes to the real world and tries to demand sex from real women. He's so used to robots saying yes that maybe he forgets he needs consent from real women. A vibrator, or any other device or object probably has limits as to how much people can conflate or confuse it with human being. Those robots may not be disguisheable from humans and that raises real concerns about consent. I wondered if some of the interviewees had trouble making their points, because Desi wouldn't really let them answer. -

I don't see Josiah as controlling, but you may know about him than I do. Why do you think he'll become controlling? -
Although when Michelle went to the expert, they showed us the initial assessment (not likely)and the expert was going to run tests. They never admitted what the tests said, but she started talking about her "new season of life" shortly thereafter. I'm not Jewish or Evangelical. If someone on a train said "Isaiah 31! Now what do you think of THAT!", I'd be baffled and probably amused. It would be an entertaining anecdote to tell people. Having googled and skimmed Isaiah 31, I'm even more confused.

Yes! Derick is going to confirm my long held belief that JB takes all the money his kids earn and deposits it in a secret bank account in the Cayman Islands for tax purposes. He tells the kids that ebil government will steal it through taxes so they all go along! and someday one of them is going to get the bank account number and pull a D. B. Cooper, take the money and escape! (Okay so all kidding aside, I wouldn't be shocked if there was some money in an account in the Caymans, but obviously, it seems a little far-fetched. I hope Intouch realises I'm not a reliable source and doesn't write about it without a credible one.)

Gothard! WTF! It looked like someone's house, hardly a big program, and no sign of a man in the photos. The Bontragers are fans of Bill Gothard and Roy Moore! That speaks volumes about them. -

She was on the old show 19K&C along time ago in 2010, so she's an old family friend. Just like how Lily and Elle found all those old pictures of Kendra. She also went to Bontranger retreat for young women a few years ago. -

We went over this in the Jill and Derick thread not too long ago. She has a traverse breech baby, which means she would have needed a c-section anyway. She did take unnecessary risks, imo, such as waiting so long to go to a hospital, but it also seems likely she would have a c-section no matter what she did. Childbirth cares risk no matter what you do, and sometimes a c-section is less risky than natural childbirth. That is the position that many of my friends have been in and I was happy that they had a good outcome with a healthy baby and mother. -
Notice they release a photo of Lauren holding a baby hours before the engagement announcement. "See folks, she'll be married and pregnant most likely by the end of the year, but that's okay because she likes babies. A LOT. She knows how to hold them and take care of them. She can hold a calm baby; she is ready to be a mom soon. It doesn't matter that she's 18, because she can handle babies!"

She's not. She's 18. Kendra is 19. Joy is 20.
