Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events
Temperance replied to maraleia's topic in Counting On
The boy directly behind Tyler looks a lot like John David. -
Josiah and Lauren: He Has To Marry Somebody
Temperance replied to frenchtoast's topic in Counting On
When Lauren says she's a slow learner, it's possible the homeschooling that she had before she went to school left her underprepared for the courses she was taking. She doesn't seem to be stupid, but she may not have the background to flourish in a real classroom. (Especially if she was pre-nursing, which probably has a lot of math and science courses.) My impression on fundie parents is that they would just as happy if not happier having a daughter married rather than working. After all if she's married she's more likely to stay fundie than someone working in the real world. -
Josiah and Lauren: He Has To Marry Somebody

FYI, Lauren is 19 and has been since May (before she married). I have heard and seen other young brides before. Most of the teen brides I've known and seen have been on television (The Bates/Duggars, and also a few brides on SYTTD:Atlanta and Four Weddings (both TLC shows)). I didn't watch the clip. Did the sister say she was sixteen or is that the internet guessing? I like that her sister wants to keep pursuing a career and hope she doesn't end up a Duggar bride (at least for some time to come). -

Part of that picture is blurry. I noticed Jinger is still pregnant with Felicity in that picture so it was probably taken around Josiah's wedding. (Given that Joe and Kendra have their son.) -
If Michelle is feeling sorry for herself, then that is her problem. She has 19 children, most of whom seem reasonably healthy and even Josie seems to be doing pretty well. She has enough money she doesn't need to have an outside job (beyond celebrity/homemaker) and she is surrounded by family and even seems to see friends regularly. It's not sad she couldn't have more kids in late 40s. I know people who would love to have a fraction of the family she has and can't.

Josiah and Lauren: He Has To Marry Somebody
Temperance replied to frenchtoast's topic in Counting On
@Christina87 Most of the young Christian/fundie women I knew wanted to be married, but had been told by their parents they were too young. People who send their kids to college tend to want their kids to finish college before settling down.(This is why probably most of your friends were waiting to be a little older getting married.) I have known a few young women who got married at 19-21. These young women were either not going to college or college was not a priority for them and their families. A few other women got married right after graduation and that probably doubles for my Christian friends. (There are also statistics that say people who get married very young are more likely to get divorced. A lot of Christian families know this and encourage their kids to marry a little older, because they "need to respect marriage" and it will decrease the chances of divorce.) No, I've never seen that before. It also says her younger sister has or is getting a degree. I'm surprised. -

I like those pictures of Si and Lauren better than a lot of the pictures Jinger and Jeremy used to take, where she was looking up at him and he was looking at the camera. -
I'm sorry for the people who had tough (and abusive) childhoods. @Nysha and @bigskygirl I feel for you. I actually wouldn't be surprised if some of the Duggars start moving away when the money dries up, but that's for another thread.

It's not a job. It's a box of free stuff, which she probably got to keep instead of paying for it. Also someone pointed out the children's books about sexuality (that Jill posted) were probably politically loaded and seemed anti-LGBTQ.

I think you're right about Ben and Jessa and JinJer, but the rest of them were set up by the Duggars or the other parents. JB and the Forsyths had known each other for years and probably set it up. Remember Joy even said "The courtship is up to Austin and my dad." I think Kendra's parents and JB set up Joe and Kendra. Lauren Swanson's father seems to have been a big reason for their courtship. (It wouldn't surprise if another Swanson ends up courting a Duggar down the road either.) (It's too soon for me to tell with JD and Abbie). You left out Anna and her husband were definitely set up by JB.

Just catching up on FFF news! She gets no money, just the box of merchandise. There is no salary attached and no money brought in from all the sales she brought in. People like the company, because they get the box for free in return for promoting the box. It is not a source of income. (This is according to their "partners" on youtube.) Because anyone can be a FFF partner. Most of their "partners" are random young women on youtube. There may be a certain number of social media subscribers one needs to have, but a lot of those youtube "celebrities" are random vloggers with a lot of Instagram followers. My guess is someone just did a pre-emptory check and saw she had a big social media platform and gave her a partnership without checking out who she is.

The "heathen" magazine is actually a guide to the products in the FFF box. FFF is actually ad for all the products in the box (so you'll keep buying). This new box is different in that it includes information about the cause it's partnered with. They are trying a new idea which is to pick a charity for the season. (FFF is a seasonal box). This season's charity is Christina Applegate's Right Action for Women, which helps women screen for breast cancer. Also you don't have to be a big star to do FFF, as a lot of youtubers are able to be partners. What does "basic girl only" mean?
-
Regarding FabFitfun Maybe, Jill thought she would get money from them. I did more research. If you agree to promote/advertise Fit/Fab/Fun, you get the box for free, but no money according to the people on youtube who promote FFF. So Jill was disappointed at no money and took it down.

I have an answer to this. Camp Fort Rock does not provide helmets, but campers can bring their own. They have rules regarding age and weight of the riders, but advertise that helmets are not provided. I agree with @BitterApple this is a lawsuit waiting to happen. (Source of this info was the Camp Fort Rock website under horseback riding, and I saw it on FJ.)

Those boxes (Fab Fit Fun) aren't cheap when you have to save every penny and very little in disposable income. I have considered getting one. The FitFabFun partners don't make a lot of money. I like watching the unboxing videos on Youtube and they have a lot of FabFitFun partners there. I'm not sure the "partners" make any money and just get discounts on their boxes.

Those mits are trendy. I don't remember babies scratching being a big deal, but now everyone is worried about it. I've being seeing it on registries lately and I don't remember it being on baby registries until now. I also get that some babies do really need the mits, but most probably don't.

I tend to think Michelle saying Jill was the oldest was more of a forgetful moment than a deliberate snub. I think it shows she always been spacey and relatively out-of-it.

The Lonely Js Club: James, Jackson & Johannah
Temperance replied to SpaghettiTuesdays's topic in Counting On
26 is not the late-twenties. It's the mid-twenties. -
Chelsy Maxwell announced she is pregnant. She is due in January. It's in keeping with the Maxwell tradition of having a baby after the first anniversary as opposed to nine months after the wedding. She is planning on a homebirth, which is normal for the Maxwells except for Melanie, who is high-risk. Her sister-in-laws had their babies in a hospital.

I think all fundies seem to think they don't owe their kids anything, but Jill and David take it everything to a different level. Quite a few fundies don't seem to think they owe their kids an education and most fundies don't seem to think they owe their children much of a choice in life. The food and housing situation is extreme, but part of that seems to be that the R's are less well off than the most of the fundies we see on television.

Every picture Jessa posts of herself starts the speculation of "Is she pregnant or not?" Of course she wants to make money based on the family reputation for having megafamilies, but it seems that has burned her out. For example some new photos of her family are on a blog and the speculation is already starting.
