S08.E12: Josiah & Lauren's Prank-less Wedding?
Temperance replied to ginger90's topic in Counting On
Part of it is family size, geography, etc. If I sent Christmas gifts to everyone in my extended family and their in-laws, I would go broke. I also have enough people to buy baby gifts for. Funerals are different and we do generally know if someone has lost someone and even occassionally send flowers if it's a particularly hard loss. Actually I went to my cousin's ex husband's funeral, because we live near-by and their kids are important to me. I think part of it is that weddings where people invite huge crowds are less trendy these days in favor of cheaper and more intimate weddings. A friend did invite her sister's in-laws to watch her kids during the ceremony. Dan and Deanna live in the area (AR) so it makes sense to invite them and Diana seemed to be there in case Jinger went into labor. That seems to make sense to me. -
Yes, I tend to agree with this. They also have a limited ability to control whether the baby is breech, transverse, or in the correct position. (Yes some people do exercises and are able to turn the baby, but those exercises aren't always successful. A friend of mine had a breech baby and a c-section and she had plenty of medical care.)

S08.E12: Josiah & Lauren's Prank-less Wedding?
Temperance replied to ginger90's topic in Counting On
She got both the degree and the job in the last couple years. Maybe her parents felt she would need to be able to support herself if she didn't get married. Maybe she felt called to nursing. Her clothing choices are consist with the Bates and the Duggars, who have kept their core beliefs but have changed their outfits. Fundies in general are moving away from the frumpy look and are looking more glam. (I'm not sure how old a woman has to be for them to consider her an old maid. I do think a lot of young women get married later than the tv brides. ) I'm not knocking her. It's great she has a degree. Marrying a Duggar, however, probably means falling back into the fold. -

She was raised in a similar environment. Her parents were big into IBLP (Institute of Basic Living Principles: founded by Bill Gothard and now run by others including Gil Bates) and ATI (advanced training institute: the homeschooling wing of IBLP). To this day, a picture of her family and all of their children is on the ATI part of the IBLP website. A lot of fundies have stopped dressing the old school way and have change some of the rules, but they are still quiverfull and many of the core beliefs remain the same. -

Oh but it seems to me like she might say that at John and Abbie's (like No, actually this is the best wedding ever.) and the wedding after that. Jessa sounds like she's been trying to learn what the kids are sayin' these days. It gave me the "feels" and best wedding ever are her way of trying to connect with their teen audience. She's trying too hard. She sounds like a sitcom parent trying to pump their kid for information. Maybe if she could watch television shows, she would get it. -
The Lonely Js Club: James, Jackson & Johannah

Maybe Willow decided she was Jana's dog. Or Jackson's dog. Dogs are like that. Sometimes a dog will decide his or her favorite person is not the person who owns the dog, especially if they live in the same house. -
In Colonial America, the only profession you needed a college degree for was a minister. It was against the law to be a preacher/pastor/religious authority, etc. with credentials to back them up. Old universities like Yale and Harvard started a divinity schools. MLK (Jr.) had a doctorate in divinity. Catholic priests tend to be educated. As for Jeremy and Jinger, it seems very normal for a priest or minister etc. to travel for a wedding. Jeremy does seem to travel a lot, especially on Sundays.

I like your honesty and that this isn't a dig at Nurie. I don't think women (or men) should necessarily be able to sew a whole garment to be at SAH parent. Maybe doing basic clothing repairs (mending a small rip, re-attaching a button, etc.), but not making clothes. It's nice if you can make clothes, but not necessary. In the other pictures, the fit of the outfit seemed more off, but that may be for modesty reasons.

Those are their names. The dog is Sarah's, but the cat is Teri's (Sarah's mother) or the family's. Also I hope Willow is not being used to make money like Sarah's dog. -
Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events
Temperance replied to maraleia's topic in Counting On
Almost any of the Duggar kids could have the most. Josh and Anna have more, mainly because they're older and have been married ten years. Of the married kids right now, I think Joe and Kendra will have the most. -
There's another photo with close-up of the watch.

Just going to post about the picture of Spurgeon with the dog. Not unusual considering Jessa was talking about her son. -

That is a different flowered dress. However, I notice that in these pictures, she's careful to block her stomach. Some fundie women like to block their stomach to avoid speculation. Anna, however, a month ago was standing by herself. I too think she's probably pregnant. I'm thinking March 2019. -
Which side is the violin side?

I can't find any real basis as to who as their GED and who doesn't. Fundiewiki has them all taking the test, but doesn't mention pass or fail. I couldn't find any other sources that say who has a GED and who doesn't.

The idea that the Bates dance, and admit it, and then just refuse to dance on television is just odd to me. I could understand if they said they don't well enough for televsion. As for Trace dancing, those Bates young men defraud women enough standing still. I guess you don't need them to dance, when you can post a photo of a boy with his shirt off or faux-getting married.
