  1. Did we complain about the Emmy nominations yet? Superstore got zero nominations this year. Brooklyn Nine-Nine, another of my shows, got only one (for guest actor). B99 actors Melissa Fumero and Stephanie Beatriz want to know where the Latin nominees are. I don't think there is great injustice here, but I do like both of those performers, and America Ferrera even more. Would have been nice to get some recognition for them.
  2. If a contestant answered the original title (which has a bad word in it), J! certainly would not show the response on air. I thought about that when I saw the clue. I am surprised J! put that clue in and took the risk of having to throw out an entire game in case of an embarrassing response.
  3. Congrats to Michelle, but I don't know what she was thinking with that low FJ wager. She's lucky Johanna missed it or Michelle would be going home. I got Jaws right away, although I suppose The Hunt For Red October is a decent guess (although I think it was published in the 80s). What's with asking which actor did a voice for an animated movie? And then announcing the movie is opening tomorrow?
  4. Good game today - close all the way. No obvious dumbness. All had good scores. Three nice-looking ladies (I normally don't comment on appearances the way some of you do, but, you know, all three were kind of attractive.)
  5. Things I hope happen: Jeff stays gone. Single Mateo will be more fun anyway. Kelly turns into an evil schemer. Not directed against Jonah necessarily, but it will be good to make her a conspiring trouble-maker after they have set her up as sweet and simple. They get that baby out of Dina and we don't hear more about that storyline. More Justine. Garrett gets a hobby or side business. Response to questions "How will the humiliation of the broadcast affect Amy and Jonah? " - It won't. They'll brush it off. Agree it was a one-time thing. They will not be a couple in the first few episodes but I don't think either one will be dating anyone. "Will they use Amy's pregnancy to revisit maternity and other workers rights?" Hmmm. I was against the pregnancy story, but since they've gone there, yes, this is a good idea. They did age discrimination with Myrtle. Now do maternity. Things I predict (not that I necessarily think they should happen.) We still rarely see Adam. He and Amy share custody but they are not a couple. Sandra gets some gumption. Jonah thinks about moving to California, or some place, but hesitates.
  6. That reminds me: Last night I dreamed I was on Jeopardy. It was close going into Final Jeopardy. The clue was "the 2018 passing of Stephen Hawking left this Canadian American gameshow host as the widely recognized "smartest man in the world."" I wrote "Who is Monty Hall?" but Alex informed me that Mr Hall died in 2017, so I lost. The studio security guards threw me out onto the street,
  7. A critic in The Hollywood Reporter listed some "superbly written TV series". B99 is on the list.
  8. Very close game today - back and forth. I thought Virginia may have underbet in her four-syllable daily double, but it worked out for her. Big payday, too, and Alex always likes that. I guessed Robert Downey Jr for FJ, but it was a guess - I was not confident at all.
  9. Wow, that driver was pretty cute. I am also often afraid to open emails, Captain Holt Love the ending.
  10. I'm guessing LeBron James. Larry said he was one of the most famous men on the planet. He spoke to the girl on the phone, so he is probably a native English speaker. That rules out the most famous soccer players. Larry said he did not finish high school because he "had to go play" - play implies something other than track so that rules out Usain Bolt. Tiger Woods went to college, so not him. Probably someone who plays one of the major US pro sports. NFL players all went to college. Could be a baseball player, I suppose. But I guess LeBron.
  11. Man, that was a difficult Final Jeopardy. Serious kudos to anyone who got it. I did, however, come up with the TS of Drake. And considering most of Drake's fans are half my age, I count that as a moral victory of a sort.
  12. I don't think any of us have a problem with single mothers. The Amy character was already a single mother, to a teenager. It's just by introducing a new baby, the show appears to be limiting what stories they can pursue going forward. It's like if you have a group of friends and one or two has a baby: you don't see them as much anymore because the baby takes all their time and attention. This is a major turn for the Amy character and for the show. And it's not that it's unrealistic. I'm sure women Amy's age who work at big box stores become pregnant all the time. It's very realistic. If I knew Amy in real life I would be supportive. That doesn't mean it's going to make good TV, however. A lifetime of TV watching has left me leery of shows that give a main character a baby half-way through the series run. Maybe I will be pleasantly surprised.
  13. Actually, Parks & Rec is a spiritual descendant of The Office, too. It was started by people who worked on The Office. And I think there's a good chance NBC will put them on the same night. Networks tend to lump similar shows in the same time block.
  14. Well this sucks. Discerning TV comedy fans can't get a break.
  15. Yes, I wonder if they'll bring that character and situation back in a future episode. Rich with possibilities. I bet on of the writers had that concept but for some reason they didn't build a whole episode around it and instead shoe-horned it into this one.
  16. What a change in tone. Good stuff: I love a good caper. All the store employees developing a plan to ambush the CEO in the cause of fighting age discrimination - love it. Jeff in a wig and beard. (But the resolution there was unsatisfying). Seemed tacked on: Jonah and Amy getting it on in the back of the store. The co-incidence of them always being photographed whenever they get together is getting unbelievable. Other good stuff: America looking pretty in this episode.
  17. I actually got FJ today (!) and Fashion is not my long suit. The initials L.V. - wasn't hard to guess. If I had been in Jan's position, I would have bet $0 in FJ and rolled into a win. But I guess it is easy to say that when I am sitting at home on my couch.
  18. I don't remember seeing Amy's friend Kylie before. She's into word etymology, apparently. Is this something they set up in a previous episode, or are we just supposed to presume that anyone friend with Amy would be into something so nerdy?
  19. As gimmicky as that would be, I think it might be the best course of action. I'm no TV writer, and maybe the showrunners know what they are doing, but I can't see this show being any good with Amy as mother to an infant.
  20. I thought this was one of the best shows on TV, but they might have jumped the shark in these last two episodes. Yeah, I chuckled at both of those. The in-show commercial for the Honda was startling. This show has always done a lot of product placement, but that was like something from the 1950s.
  21. Poor Kelly. And poor Jonah, too. I feel bad for everybody.
  22. When I heard his story I assumed he worked for a perfume manufacturer or developer. But you're probably right. Not as interesting a job. Not a good game overall today. I was identifying with pizza club guy and could see myself going into a tailspin if I ever got on J! He got down and kept flailing away trying to come back. Saskatchewan was an eye-rollingly bad FJ response.
  23. Amy in a dress - not surprising, but nice. Rosa in a dress - surprising!
