  1. Is the same actress playing Lena this season as in the prior ones? She seems different to me. Agree with the above posters - the scene where Lena barges in was cringeworthy. I liked this 2-parter better than the first one.
  2. I liked Mrs. Sidhu Investigates as well - especially since it was the pilot, which is often not great. I thought it was a bit long and draggy but I'll reserve judgment until the next episode. I love the actress and the character of Mrs. Sidhu. Looking forward to seeing how she and the Inspector develop a working relationship. Watching a fun show on MHz Choice called Crime is Her Game. It is a buddy mystery show with 2 female cops set in rural France. It is in French with subtitles. I believe there are 7 episodes altogether. Recommended.
  3. Finished Chelsea Detective last evening. Unfortunately, episode 4 was not any better than any of the prior episodes in Season 2. The show really suffered from the replacement of DS Shamsie with the new DS Walsh. In the process, it destroyed its uniqueness. Looking forward to watching Mrs. Sidhu Investigates on Acorn. Am currently watching Van Der Valk on PBS. (It has its own topic here so I won't discuss in this thread.)
  4. Exactly my thoughts regarding the sudden revelation of the sister. How is the audience supposed to figure out the mystery if a key piece of evidence is purposely withheld? I think that you are dead on point regarding the change in DS from Sonita Henry's character to the new DS. Priya was not just a DS - she had an interesting home life; I don't often see a detective program showing one of the female leads struggling with new motherhood. The actress was also much stronger than the one portraying the current DS. The Chelsea Detective was one of my favorite shows in Season One. It is now barely tolerable in Season Two.
  5. Watched Episode 1 of Season 2 of The Chelsea Detective. Last year, this was one of my favorite series. I really liked the relationship between Max and Priya and thought that the supporting cast - especially the medical examiner - was quite good. For Season 2, it's only been one episode but I am not thrilled with the replacement DS so far. She is inoffensive but a big drop off in charisma from Priya. Not nearly as enamored with the show as I was last year. Hopefully the next few episodes will be better.
  6. I have not yet watched Season 2 of The Chelsea Detective but I echo @Jeeves comments about Sonita Henry. I really liked the actress and the character. I doubt that the show will be the same without her.
  7. Very late to the party - but what a great party it is! I binged over the last week and am so sad that it is over. (I even watched some of the YouTube videos of the cast in real life - taking on the personas of their characters.) Plan to start a re-watch soon. I loved everything about the show - especially Ma Mary. I love the scenes with Ma Mary and her family and with the girls (and James) all together. Sister Michael's expressions (and muttered comments) are terrific. I even liked Jenny -particularly when she reached out to Claire after the funeral. I could have easily watched more seasons.
  8. Mrs. Sidhu Investigates, a humorous British mystery involving a high-end Indian caterer who gets involved in criminal investigations, premieres on September 18 on Acorn. https://www.amcnetworks.com/press-releases/acorn-tvs-radio-to-tv-mystery-mrs-sidhu-investigates-premieres-monday-september-18/
  9. I really liked Kristin. I can't recall a network show with this level of cast changes - either voluntary or forced.
  10. Finished Granite Harbour and Ridley this weekend. Granite Harbour was terrible: bad writing, storyline which made no sense, etc.... I did like the Scottish accents, however. I had higher hopes for Ridley considering the actors involved but that was almost as bad. Finishing the final episode of Magellan tonight (MHz Choice). This has been a good series about a French police inspector. It resembles Midsomer Murders. Eagerly awaiting the next seasons of Annika, Unforgettable and Van Der Valk.
  11. Started watching Granite Harbour on Britbox. It is set in Aberdeen, Scotland and centers on a Jamaican military policeman who joins the local police force. It's not bad - and I love the Scottish accents. There are only 3 episodes.
  12. I just finished episodes 3 and 4 of Ridley. It was okay (particularly because I couldn't find anything else to watch) but nothing special. I like the relationship between Carol and her family but find Ridley himself to be a nothing. Julie Graham, who is usually great, is wasted here.
  13. Just read that McDonald and Dodds is in production on Season 4. I love that show!
  14. I watched the first two-part episode of Ridley on PBS Masterpiece (Amazon Video). It stars Adrian Dunbar from Line of Duty as a DI who retired after the tragic deaths of his wife and daughter. He gets called back by his former DS to help solve a cold case. The mystery itself was good and the cast was interesting. There are 3 other two -part episodes which are not yet available on PBS Masterpiece but are available if you subscribe to PBS Passport.
  15. Late to the party. Just spent the last month+ watching all of Lewis. Loved it. Particularly liked the relationship between Laura and Robbie and, of course, between Hathaway and Lewis. I did not like the abrupt change from Jean Innocent to the new Superintendent. Did nothing for me. I did like Maddox and would have loved another series to see more of the trio.
  16. I am starting Season 8 now. Love the progress of the Robbie/Laura relationship.
  17. I am doing a binge of Inspector Lewis on Amazon Prime. There are a max of 6 episodes per season so it is not overwhelming. The mysteries are generally interesting and the characters of Lewis and his sidekick, Hathaway, are well developed. Since this series started years ago, there are a lot of early co-stars who are now much more prominent actors in various British dramas. It's fun to pick them out. The actor who plays Hathaway apparently is a right-wing whacko in Britain who has been quite outspoken about public policies such as Covid. Knowing that information does make it a bit harder to watch his performances.
  18. Completely agree with this entire post. Since Jess left, this show has turned into the Remy Hour as a showcase for Dylan McDermott. It's a real disservice to the supporting cast, who are much more interesting. When Jess was the main character, I thought that too much time was spent on his family life but at least he was not shown as The One. Remy is depicted as a larger than life hero - which is not how I see him. The tenor of the show completely changed into a one man band when Remy replaced Jess. Now it is much more of a standard cop show as opposed to being something more unique.
  19. Sad that I've now seen all of the Brokenwood episodes for this season. I liked how Trudy played a major role in the finale. The mystery was just okay - I knew the killer in a few minutes - but I did like seeing the Team figure it out. Would have preferred that Beth and Mike stay together. Seeing Gina pining again is not a good look for a character who had seemed to turn the corner. I do like the banter between Chalmers and Sims.
  20. Just finished Dalgleish. Enjoyed it.
  21. I did not fully understand why Greg Germann's character targeted Will and the kids from the Home. I enjoyed seeing the earlier iterations of Amanda and Faith's mom; also liked seeing Faith's mom talking with Will - who had ended her career.
  22. Huge Fosters fan. I only watch Good Trouble when the Mamas come to visit. So nice to see them again. Particularly liked seeing Lena holding the old photograph of all of their children. Such great memories. Jude looks so much better without the long hair but he is definitely not Judecorn.
  23. Finished latest season of The Bay. It was okay but suffered by having Britbox drop only one episode per week. I think there is too much focus on the children of the lead character. If there is another season, I hope that they tone that part down.
  24. Watched the first two episodes of this season of Dalgleish. I really like the relationship between Dalgleish and his DS, Kate. This was a good two-part episode but, for me, the killer was evident from the start due to the actor who was cast.
