I worked occasionally on the Michigan Daily at the University of Michigan. In the 70s, at least, it was a real newspaper if you didn’t count all of the unpaid labor. All of the senior editors were behind on graduating or just barely passing their classes because they were at the paper most days until after midnight. It was a daily paper and everything had to be typeset in metal type before being printed on letterpress printers. I am very, very old. So I call bullshit on the Palladinos, yet again. No way Rory has time to ace her classes, run the paper, play house with Logan, and run home to Stars Hollow every weekend. Not even three out of four of those.

I’m very uncomfortable with this conversation and I’m going to take a break for a while.

Harry was a catch, at least on the surface. He had all of the prestige and money without the worst of the “you’re up next” responsibility. And he had the bad boy thing going for him, not to mention he’s good looking and seems to have a good sense of humor. I would think the fact that he didn’t marry a nice posh British girl was the source of much jealousy among the also-rans, even if it was only in their fantasies. Also the last time an heir to the throne was involved with an American divorcee, it didn’t go well for the monarchy. King Edward abdicated as a result. I suspect some of all the UK hysterics has to do with it essentially happening again...it’s been a couple of generations or so, but nothing has a long memory like a monarchy. (Of course, when Charles wanted to marry his divorced mistress they changed the rules. How convenient.🙄) Add in the reality of racism...it was a recipe for ugly. I don’t blame Harry and Meghan for getting out before Archie was old enough to start to understand what was happening.

It doesn’t count if you’re lying to the great unsaved heathen masses. 🙄

The reality is that the Royal Family is a family...but it’s also a multi-billion dollar corporation with a brand that drives the revenue. The Queen and at this point, Charles, are nominally in charge, but mostly they’re figureheads and the star performers that maintain the brand. As in most corporations, the needs of any individual are only considered in the context of how the brand and the revenue are served. Diana’s mental health suffered under the regime, as well, to the point where she was suffering from bulimia and depression...IIRC, she threw herself down a flight of stairs. Fergie bailed on Andrew. William has said he has dealt with depression.And the UK press is notoriously savage and pounces on any crack in the facade. Meghan was divorced, American, an actress, and half Black. All of that was tabloid fodder and given how fiercely the Royal Family brand is protected, I don’t doubt she was viewed as a threat. But she was a grown woman, not a protected upper class shy girl like Diana, and I don’t think she was prepared to be treated like a wayward teen. It’s not all designer clothes and charity photo ops, for sure.

I wasn’t bashing dolls and it was nice of David’s sister to think of it. It just would be nice to see someone give them a chemistry set. A play medical bag with a stethoscope. A microscope. A set of legos. Hell, a nurse’s uniform. Something that might get them thinking about other paths. That’s all.

Yes. But in all fairness... I found a jar of tarragon in my drawer that expired five years ago. Which means I moved it three times, maybe four. 🙄 Also...turmeric. Have it, never use it. Ditto curry powder. Also coriander. Also cumin. I suspect some of these jars will outlive me. Spices are relatively expensive ($6 for a jar of dill, really Safeway?) and I get why she wouldn’t be replacing them.

How does that curse go? “May you live in interesting times.” Yep. Interesting. As in, pretty damned terrible.

A “foster fail” means the foster adopts the pet themselves because they fall in love...it’s a bit of a misnomer!

I deeply dislike and distrust Jeremy and I think Jinger is a mostly brainwashed “helpmeet” with little ability for independent thought. I got sick of the Felicity posts because they were so numerous and so obviously staged while JerJer was passing them off as candids. But the snark wasn’t directed at her. Neither she nor this baby signed up to be the children of feckless fame-seekers. IF they’ve decided not to plaster their kids all over SM anymore because it’s not what’s best for the children, well, good for them.

@Jynnan tonnix, I feel for you. My mother’s estate was in pretty good shape, thanks to herculean efforts by my BIL before my father died, and it was still hours on the phone talking to outright knuckleheads to get a few accounts straightened out. If it doesn’t work out today, you can ask the credit card company to stop payment or cancel the card if she has another one. I’ve found nothing gets a proactive response like a company’s not getting their money.

I think there are two reasons he looks different in that photo... 1) He’s standing up straight. 2) He looks happy. Usually he looks like he’s desperately hoping Jesus will take him home.
