Well said. A good friend of mine married a successful, educated man who abused her on a regular basis. She stayed with him for years because of her children. When she left him and the story came out, everyone was shocked. I saw my friend in Celeste.

Charlie is always made of gold. I loved the scene on the table. I knew that the person playing the rapper looked familiar, but I didn't realize it was Chris Brown. Using Chris Brown kind of negates the message of the show. Very odd choice.

I saw an interview recently with his daughter. She believes her bather was bi-polar and would have benefited from medication.

In the biography I read about Bette, no one believed BD's book. The people who knew them all said that BD was spoiled and indulged by her mother and very bratty. Also, Bette gave a lot of money to BD and her husband for various business ventures. When Bette's money started drying up, BD wrote the book. Bette was heartbroken.

I was listening to the podcast, "You Must Remember This", and they had a quote from Joan about the situation and it was same quote they used in the show. The thing that struck me was that Joan said she initiated it. She didn't recognize the evil that was done to her. It's heartbreaking. The biography I read said that she didn't leave anything because there were trusts in place for Margo which her son oversees.

Charlie: "Eustice looks just like my brother Eustice. Eustice!!" Charlie always makes my LOL. Very funny episode tonight with a lot of truth about being a parent in corporate America.

This afternoon I took a walk to the Marshall's store near my office. This store has a large African American customer base. When I walked into the store, there was a large display of dolls. Every doll was white. I don't have any children so I wouldn't normally even notice the display. Bravo Black-ish for talking about this issue.

Hollywood History: The Real-Life "Feud" and More
monakane replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Feud [V]
I always preferred young Joan over young Bette. I find Bette too "theatrical" in her early work. Joan was more natural in her early movies. As they aged, my opinion flipped and I found Joan too mannered and Better more natural. I loved Bette in "The Catered Affair." She plays a plain housewife in a believable way. It's a very different performance. -
My memories of Joan Blondell were from the movies she made in the 1930's. I'm a "pre-code" junkie and Joan was one of my favorites from that era. I love Kathy Bates and she conveys Joan's "brassiness" even as an older woman.

Last year I read biographies of both women. Bette would often fight with the studios to look unattractive for a role especially when she was younger. Joan was too insecure to not look glamorous all of the time. Joan had a terrible childhood. As an adult, I think she showed all the signs of someone who had been sexually abused as a child. I've never read that she was abused, but I do get that sense about her.

I kept thinking I could not find the defendant guilty because his lawyer was so terrible and did not present a case.

I did the reverse. I was at home sick yesterday and watched the People vs. OJ. I wanted to give Darden a hug every time he was on screen. I recommend it for any SKB fans. He gives a lot of depth to one of the least interesting characters in the OJ saga.

Thanks for posting. Haemophilia was one of the direct causes of the fall of the Czar Nicholas.

Yep. The work place scene was spot on. Everyone at my office was in shock. I liked that they gave Dre's boss some thoughtfulness. The writing for that character seems to be all over the place to fit the plot. One minute he's a clueless privileged rich white guy and the next he's openly racist. Make up your mind show.

Pops and Junior were golden. I love how Pops accepts his grandson for who he is. It was nice to see Anthony Anderson show off his dramatic acting chops. Fans of The Shield know what I'm talking about.

I hate the way Dre treats Junior. I know it's played to be humorous, but it comes off abusive. They need to tone down Dre. They're making him unlikeable. Pops and Ruby were pure gold.

I'm glad they acknowledged Dre's behavior when Bow added living with a "man baby" as part of her stress. I'm guessing they'll have the baby being born as the season finale because no sitcom has every done that before. Yawn.

I loved the picture of Charlie with Nixon. Who knew Charlie is 72 years old? This episode was definitely a let down after last week's stellar episode.

"The White Walker, Snow J Pimpson , Anglo-Saxon Jackson, John Mayer but not Dave Matthews" Charlie, please don't ever leave us again! I loved this episode especially Bow's talk with her father.

I immediately thought Captain Obvious when I saw Captain Howdy in his uniform. I have a theory.

LSSC: Season Two Episode Talk
monakane replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Late Show With Stephen Colbert
I'm loving angry Stephen. The end of his monologue is great. I felt like I was seeing the real Stephen shining through. OT, please tell me the Palin thing is a joke. -
Poor Margaret. She never found happiness. Her scenes were heartbreaking. I don't know how Elizabeth was able to do it. I would have never broken my sister's heart like that.

I'm enjoying the more nuanced portrayal. I always thought he was a pathetic figure. I think he clung to "that woman" because he felt unloved. In the end, it was the best thing that could have happened to Britain. Can you imagine having a Nazi sympathizer on the throne during WWII? George was the right man at the right time. It's so sad that it cost him so much.

Now we can add "Doucheifer" to the douche references. That was the line of the night for me.
