  1. Unfortunately, it still goes on today. There was a case a couple of years ago in the Philly area. www.cnn.com/2012/08/16/justice/pennsylvania-swim-club-discrimination/
  2. They did an after show last night to catch everyone up on the people involved. ABC played a tape of Bernie being interviewed after his son's suicide. He said he cried for "two weeks" after he heard the news. Wow! A whole two weeks! What a guy! I did not know until I watched the show that his other son also died. Talk about the sins of the father. I do pity Ruth. She's lost everything she loved.
  3. HBO is doing a Madoff movie with Robert DeNiro. That should be interesting. I agree with you that the tone is a little too light and breezy considering the damage the Madoff did to his investors and his family. HBO is doing a Madoff movie with Robert DeNiro. 4. Did anyone notice that one of the guys Dre pushed down the steps during the flashback scene had on a Cosby-type sweater?
  5. I didn't understand her distress over the miscarriage. If I were facing life imprisonment or possible hanging, a baby would be the last thing I would want. I'm so sick of those two.
  6. My brother was hospitalized when we had the measles because his fever was so high. He came out of it okay with no lasting damage. My case was very mild with a low fever. I recovered in a few days. As a young teenager, he contracted mumps from me that left him with a low sperm count and unable to father children. I feel guilty about it to this day. Happily, he and his wife adopted a beautiful girl who grew into a lovely woman. I'm so glad that children don't have to go through that anymore. Read Gene Tierney's biography if you want to know how devastating German measles can be to a pregnant woman. OT, I cringed when the doctor ordered aspirin and I wondered if that made the girl's condition worse.
  7. I loved that too and when Trevor asked if he was taking back the show because he heard "that happens on American TV". One thing that seemed odd to me was how much bigger Jon looked than Trevor when they were sitting at the table. It was weird. I don't know if it was the camera angle or Jon has a bigger head.
  8. I'm indifferent to Carrel, but I was hoping the interview would be fun like when they were together on TDS. I found the interview to be phony and too insider show-biz. Worst of all it was boring. I've loved Stephen for a long time and never missed an episode of the Report, but the new show feels to generic to me. I'll probably record it when an interesting guest is on, but won't be watching every episode.
  9. I'm also all about Junior, but I like all the kids. I love that Junior is a Game of Thrones nerd. My favorite line was Dre threatening to "red wedding" his ass.
  10. I would add to the Maher v. Colbert discussion that I have seen Bill be incredibly rude to his guests. The one recent instance that comes to mind is the show with Andrew Sullivan and Patrick Kennedy. He was incredibly rude to both of them while they were discussing mental illness.
  11. I saw it the same way. I thought Bill threw the first punches with his comments about Nixon and Stephen's marriage and religious belief. Stephen started toying with him like a cat with a mouse. Bill does have very thin skin.
  12. I noticed it too. Kudos to the actor. You don't notice that he's handsome, you only see the crazy that is Charlie.
  13. I would love to see Michael Chiklis show up in an episode.
  14. Speaking of MacMurray, let's not forget the heel he played in The Apartment which was another Billy Wilder film. Wilder sure did bring out the best in him.
  15. I love that movie! TCM usually shows it during the holidays.
  16. I'm with you on both Talk of the Town and Ronald Colman. There was a melancholy about Colman that always pulled at me. I think that quality worked especially well in Random Harvest and Lost Horizon. And Tale of Two Cities.
  17. I know Joan had a difficult childhood and I always felt that there was sexual abuse involved. I've never read that was the case, so it's just a feeling I get about her. I always felt a little sorry for Joan. I think Bette was much more self confident than Joan. Does anyone know how Kate got along with Joan and Bette? I love Joan, Bette, Loy, and Stanwyck with Stanwyck being my favorite. I know there is a lot of love for Claudette Colbert on this board, but something about her grates. I think she's beautiful and a decent actress, but I find her smug.
  18. I think Stephen is a brilliant comedic actor, but he's not a "personality" in the way that Letterman or Stewart were. I don't think Stephen ever did stand-up. A good stand-up comedian has to be open and vulnerable with the audience in order to connect with them. I'm not saying that Stephen doesn't have a personality, rather he isn't comfortable displaying it. I hope that changes and we get to see the real Stephen.
  19. I had a discussion recently about how a lot of millennials are pro-gun and own guns so it didn't surprise me that the kids were pro-gun.
  20. I love when Rushdie is on a talk show. He has interesting, thoughtful things to say which is why I was annoyed that the female comedian kept interrupting him.
  21. Buzz Freakin' Aldrin! Larry is right. Buzz is the most interesting man in the world. That's how you do 85 years old. I loved that he gave away the corn field segment.
  22. I watched the rest of the show tonight. Can someone tell me whose picture was on JImmy Fallon's locker door?
  23. I choked up too. I miss Jon. I loved Stephen's joy. It made me happy that he was so happy. And he twirled!
  24. I don't understand how Mitch would trust the medication for his daughter. For someone who is so smart, that was a dumb move. I also had a border collie and she was without a doubt the smartest dog I have ever known. My husband and I used to talk pig Latin around her because she learned so many words and would get excited if she heard one of them. I would love for a border collie to be the brains behind everything.
  25. I graduated from a Catholic high school in 1972 and we were given sex education in our biology course. It was a film that covered the basic mechanical side of sex. It didn't seem to be a big deal at the time, but looking back, I guess it was. Of course, there was plenty of preaching in the religion class, about abstinence.
