Glad to see I was not alone in hoping for an Officer Jenkins spin-off. Alas.

The Annual Academy Awards - General Discussion
bref replied to thuganomics85's topic in The Academy Awards (aka The Oscars)
Well, that was certainly memorable. It took me several minutes to realize my jaw had literally dropped and I was staring at the TV with my mouth open like a cartoon character. -
Yikes. I just saw a post from a friend on Facebook that she is attending an event comprised of Anderson Cooper and Andy sitting on a stage swapping stories for a couple hours ("The AC2 Tour"). Adding insult to injury, she apparently paid OVER ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS for that privilege. Anderson is one thing, but Annoying Andy? I think not.

Bonus Episode: Ask Me Anything
bref replied to zxy556575's topic in Leah Remini: Scientology And The Aftermath
Does anyone know how the South Park guys obtained the "higher level" information that they revealed in the Scientology episode? -
Aww, I guess I'm willing to be more forgiving and reserve judgment after the excellence of season one. Chris, who was indeed bitchy post critique, was also the kid who said that beautiful people intimidated him because he's a potato, which made me sympathetic to him. I think there's a lot of bravado there. Yes, CloverHead was a bit precious, but she explained it was a trend in China (I think) and she seemed down to earth otherwise. I cut artistic kids a lot of slack, I admit. No one struck me as terrible, although poor Urkel is pretty annoying. Definitely not as impressed with their designs, but it's too early to judge. My hopes are still high, as the kids seem supportive of one another and that was one of the most charming aspects of the first go-round to me. Also, seeing Christian always warms my heart!

It embarasses me for Dan Rather that he is appearing on this show, but damned if he doesn't still manage to maintain his dignity. He actually seems to like Andy, which I will choose to ignore. One thing that struck me was how attentive he was when CBV was talking. Dan is the consummate listener as well as talker. He remains probably my favorite living journalist. ETA: The rapport between Rather and Courtney is clearly mutual. And Andy seems to know enough to shut up and enjoy the guests tonight.

Hairspray Live! (NBC) - General Discussion
bref replied to Tara Ariano's topic in Hairspray Live! (NBC)
Yay! I'm enjoying it. Nothing sucks so far, I would say everyone is holding their own, and Kristen is a goddess now and forever. These interludes with the audience and the remotes and so on are awful, though. Would definitely prefer a straight cutaway to commercials. -
Hairspray Live! (NBC) - General Discussion
bref replied to Tara Ariano's topic in Hairspray Live! (NBC)
Anyone following on Twitter? What's the consensus? (I'm in stupid Mountain Time, so it just started here). This is my favorite show, so I'm kind of holding my breath for it not to suck. -
I thought she seemed quite defensive and Tom seemed fairly relaxed and happy. Odd mixed vibe. @itsadryheat, my cable went out in the last minutes of the show. What was the poll result?

It depresses me to no end to know that

I posted earlier about my elderly dad, the progressive historian, who was uncharacteristically brought low by the events of the week. So many of you liked my comment and/or responded kindly that I wanted to update you. We Skyped at length last night and he's feeling a bit better. He even wrote a piece online encouraging lefties to go man the barricades, although he confided to me that he wasn't feeling quite as resolute as he sounded. It was definitely helpful to both of us to talk, though. I encourage all of you to reach out, or continue to reach out, to loved ones for mutual support. Courage. @sleekandchic, I hope you can sleep. Goodnight. (You are far from self indulgent, thank you for the work you do.) <3

My 94-year-old dad, who is an American historian and lifelong progressive, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, has traveled the world, served in the military, taught, wrote books, marched in Selma, was a tax-withholding war protester, and is one of the greatest and best people I have ever known, wrote me an email today in which he said he is having a hard time getting out of bed in the mornings because he is so depressed. I have to go cry my eyes out now.

Me, Ruby. I have not forgotten the dire warnings from military and foreign affairs experts from both sides of the political aisle about Trump's unsuitability to command our armed forces and have access to the nuclear codes.

@sleekandchic, I wish I had a fraction of your grace.

Welp, it's 3 am and i have zero chance of sleeping tonight. Much appreciation to those who have tried to make positive statements. I'm skeptical, but I needed to hear it. :) Honest to God, this feels like the worst dream ever. I keep thinking of how President Obama will have to turn over the keys to the guy who challenged his very right to the job for five years. It makes me sick.

Bookwoman, I said the same to my husband. Especially if Trump follows through with appointing Giuliani as Attorney General. I think I'm going to be sick. -

The markets will plummet under Trump. Futures are down 700 right now. EDIT: Sorry I didn't see how many people answered first. Never mind! -

I don't wanna start getting crazy here, but let's remember no matter what happens that we need to look out for each other. None of this "First they came for the Communists" stuff, agreed? </3- 1.4k replies

LIVE CHAT: Election Night 2016 (11/8/2016)

I am perspiring. And I don't even have the TV on. Thank G-d for this thread! -
I really admired her. AMC was my first, my favorite, and eventually my last soap. No one did it better than Agnes Nixon. :(
-
TV Guide and other sources are combining the descriptions of the two shows (which Drogo quoted verbatim in the opening post) as well as showing them occupying a continuous time slot. It's a little odd, but they actually are two separate shows with two separate forums and presumably should be discussed separately. :)

I'm newish to the 90-Day universe (last season was my first) and it is cringe-watching at its finest, but since I'm not familiar with the prior couples (and can't stand Loren, SORRY GOD YES I KNOW SHE HAS TOURETTE'S) I decided to pass on the HEA thing; however, I came here to read about it and it was the best decision I ever made. You all are HILARIOUS. Just assume every one of your comments is liked by me.

So do we really believe a majority of WWHL watchers are Trump supporters (per the poll), or is it a mass goof they are perpetrating to freak Andy out? If it's the latter, I approve.

S01.E08: The Path to War Part One: The Gathering Political Storm
bref replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in BrainDead [V]
THAT'S who that was! Thank you Genius, that was driving me nuts! I loved the opening song/commercial for bugs in your head. This show is genius. It's so off kilter and fun but also deeply creepy (torture and brain bugs and exploding heads). I can't take my eyes off Mary Elizabeth Winstead. She's my new favorite actor. Please CBS gods, let it play out til the end!
