  1. ChicksDigScars, I'm with you. My husband is Italian. The typical weddings we attended had antipasto, soup, salad, pasta, meat and/or seafood, dessert and coffee. Sometimes there was a sorbet in between courses. And then around midnight, just in case anyone was hungry, they rolled out a big table with cold cuts, cheese, bread and pastries. Open bar throughout, of course. And lots of dancing.
  2. I missed the big event last night- went to pub trivia with my daughter and her fiance. I looked on the TLC website but the full episode isn't up, and my cable on demand does not include TLC shows. Guess I will have to wait for the rerun. Is there anywhere else I can see it? My daughter is getting married next April, and we WILL be feeding the guests a real meal. Seated at tables. After there will be dancing. And an open bar. (Gasp!)
  3. Well she is still hanging on. Just posted a picture with James on her instagram account. Her buddy bought her a new phone case last night. What a sweet kid.
  4. Thyroid or PCOS? That also causes hair loss and weight gain, and also facial hair growth. Maybe the heavy-handed makeup was an effort to mask excess facial hair? I didn't really notice any, but truth be told I was distracted by the poor woman's teeth. Kudos to the husband/boyfriend for cooking healthy meals for her. He seems so much better than the others we have seen. Hope she continues to make progress.
  5. But then Michelle would have to hunt for another teacher, because she sure as hell won't be doing it herself. AFAIK, Josiah was the last Duggar to get his GED. Joy is next, followed by Jer and Jed, who do seem a little brighter than your average howler to me. I hope Joy doesn't have any issues getting her diploma. I remember seeing her reading a book that was way below grade level a few years ago, but I am hoping she just grabbed the first book lying around so as not to delay filming. But after Jer and Jed, those howlers are going to have a real struggle on their hands, IMO. The older kids at least had some structured education, such as it was, before the cameras started rolling. Now between filming and trips, and a totally checked-out head teacher (Michelle), I suspect there is precious little learning going on in TSOTDRT.
  6. Honestly, I think that in her deluded mind she thinks that she has done her part by giving birth to 19 kids. She is the holy breeder, and that has given her a free pass for the rest of her life.
  7. Both my daughter and her future husband are residents and they tell me that the hospital gets crazy when there is a full moon. Neither of them is an OB/GYN, so they can't comment on the maternity ward, but in general it's super busy.
  8. Re: Derick painting Jill's toenails. The wedding was November 1st. She was just 4 1/2 months along and she couldn't bend over? I dunno...
  9. Well, she has looked after many a newborn in her life. She knows that this is the last time she will have any time to herself for a long time. I was way more relaxed about the due date with my second and third. I knew what was coming... :)
  10. While I don't think J & A want to leave DC, is it possible that Josh had a contract with the FRC, and he has been informed that it will not be renewed? IIRC he started in June of 2013. Don't think he could get a job elsewhere in DC, and Jessa and Ben are living in his old place, so that might explain the new AR house.
  11. Caught Michelle in a lie last night. She said that they had decided to homeschool when Josh was 8 months old, but he went to a Christian kindergarten. Also the whole miscarriage/"let's join a cult and have babies for Jesus" debacle did not happen quite so quickly, IIRC. The first 5 kids had some semblance of a normal childhood- Christmas trees, Halloween costumes, etc, before they went full out Gothard. I remember seeing some pictures of the kids when they were little, and they looked "normal".
  12. After 2 years and 3 majors my youngest son left university and is now enrolled in a CAD (computer assisited design) course at community college. He works full time and still should be done in less than 2 years. All of his English and humanities courses transferred over from university, so he just has the core classes. There are lots of openings in this field, and the pay is decent. Ben could do that easily, and come out with a marketable skill. Just saying...
  13. Not only are they the best looking of the boys, they appear to be more intelligent than the others. Hopefully they can escape at some point. I have a sneaking suspicion that the older girls and John David are the only ones who will get any help from their parents. The howlers will be left to fend for themselves, and the little girls will assume the roles housekeepers and caretakers for their parents and Josie, even though they have not had as much training as their older sisters. The quality of "education" in the family appears to have taken a nose dive beginning with the howlers. Aside from Jer and Jed those poor kids appear to be barely literate. I think Josiah was the last one to get his GED.
  14. When Jill talked about getting pregnant right away and not really having any "just the two of us time" before it was "baby on the way time" it just made me feel incredibly sad. Jessa and Ben have been married for almost 5 months, and while I am sure a pregnancy is on the horizon it is nice that they have had at least a little couple time. I was married for 8 years when my first child was born. While we were absolutely thrilled to be pregnant, to be totally honest, there were times when the realization that our days of "just the two of us" were coming to an end made me just a little bit sad. I can't imagine never having those years.
  15. Ah Ruby... such a pretty girl (those eyes!), and yet so annoying. Still trying to decide if the self-deprecating remarks were sincere or meant to give the impression of humility. Loved Kimberley- she was just sweet and happy, and I think she should have won. I actually thought her wedding cake was lovely, AND apparently it tasted good. My daughter is getting married next year and she wants a yummy cake as opposed to a showy one. Loved James from season 3. Glad to see he stuck with medical school.
  16. Silly me. I did read some spoilers about the finale, but evidently I misread them because I though Luis was the winner so I was surprised to see Nancy take it. Wonder if the fact that PBS owns the rights to some of these shows is the reason they are not shown on BBC America?
  17. My unpopular opinion is that I am creeped out by the little girl they cast as Marigold. She is just so quiet, unresponsive, and her eyes look dead. She gets tossed from one adult to another like a sack of potatoes and shows no response at all. Most toddlers would not go meekly to people they don't know, and at that age they don't want to be carried around. They want to get down and run. This child is supposed to be 18 months-2 years old. She is the same size as her cousins who are 4 and 3. I know there are many issues with casting very young actors and actresses, but surely they could have found someone a bit more age appropriate and lively.
  18. So glad I am not the only one who thinks this! She is the same size as George and Sybbie even though she is supposed to be younger. In the nursery she is still in a crib while her cousins are in beds. I know it is difficult to find very young actors and actresses, but surely they could have found someone a little more lively. She reminds me of a child with developmental delays. Can someone tell me how old the children are supposed to be? I am a bit lost as to the timeline. Thanks.
  19. I am sorry to see Chetna go. I will miss her orange high tops and rows of tiny earrings!
  20. Count me in as one who feels first-time births should take place in a hospital, or at the very least with a FULLY LICENSED, UNIVERSITY EDUCATED, EXPERIENCED midwife with an OB-GYN on call if an emergency situation presents itself. But the Duggars are special snowflakes and nothing bad will ever happen to them because they are having babies for Jesus! I just hope everything goes well for them. Maybe having a big baby will make her consider delaying number 2 for a bit, though I somehow doubt that...
  21. Too true! Although the dresses she chose were not as "bridesmaidey" as a lot I have seen. My daughter is getting married next spring. She is picking the colour, but letting her bridesmaids choose their own dresses. As long as they all wear the same colour she is happy.
  22. Surely Ben is 20 by now. Seems like he has been 19 forever... I must confess I was reading a magazine while watching the show- it is just too mind-numbing. I missed Jill feeding Josie her breakfast-if that isn't a sign of a problem I don't know what is. Wish these dumbasses would wake up and get the child a proper assessment and therapies. The mattress was just yucky. Guess they don't subscribe to the belief that cleanliness in next to godliness. Good on Ben for his snarky remark about Jill and Derick beating them AGAIN.
  23. I saw the turkey pictures on instagram, and I have to wonder how she cooked a 16lb turkey on a cookie sheet. Her oven must have been flooded with drippings! Turkey is easy to cook, and there are lots of leftovers for sandwiches, pies, etc. Not that big of a deal, IMHO.
  24. In Las Vegas this show is all over the place. The first 4 episodes were shown on Monday night at 9, then it was on on Sunday before Downton Abbey, and now they are airing it at 2 am on Tuesday. I just watch on my computer now, but it is beyond frustrating!
  25. Not perfect, but I liked it. Wish it could have been a little longer to tie up a few more loose ends ( Haddie, how Amber met her husband, Zeek's mother) but you can't have everything I guess. Can someone please provide a link to the article where Katims talked about the babies and Amber meeting her new guy? I read the links upthread, but those things aren't addressed there. Thanks!
