  1. Congratulations Apple Clark! Wishing you all the best. :)
  2. Wow. I go out to run a few errands and come back to this? I am sorry, but for someone who prides herself on being a trained midwife, Jill sure dropped the ball . 2 weeks overdue, positive for Strep B ( curious to know just how long she was in possession of THAT piece of knowledge), meconium , and they STILL held off on the C-section? What the HELL is wrong with her? She and Derick are beyond lucky that their little boy is ok. And she can thank the PROPERLY TRAINED DOCTORS AND NURSES for the positive outcome. I have no objections to midwives, as long as they have real training and are certified, as in CNMs. Jill's training is a joke, and shame on the State of Arkansas for allowing lay midwives to practice. Jill should watch Call The Midwife. Those women were far better trained even though it was 50-60 years ago, and they didn't have all of the modern conveniences.
  3. This made me laugh. I lived in Texas for 3 years when W was governor. Never saw a scorpion or a red wasp, but I did have more than a few run-ins with fire ants. Yes, but the overwhelming majority of Catholics in the Western world go ahead and ignore that teaching, and use other forms of birth control with zero guilt. Even 35 years ago I knew there was no way some old guys in Rome were going to tell me I could not control the size of my family.
  4. If she was pregnant, would she even be allowed to change a tire? Seems to me the Duggars would find that too risky for someone carrying a blessing. Riding in the stink bus across the country is fine, but manual labor? I dunno...
  5. Early days yet, and I suppose we should wait and see if this courtship even does actually end with a wedding, but I think of all the older Duggar kids Josiah is the one most likely to have a reasonably sized family. He was visibly upset when Michelle announced she was pregnant with #20. I can't imagine him putting his wife through a ridiculous number of pregnancies. On board with the metrosexual speculation. He is much more stylish and well-groomed than any of his brothers. He seems much more sensitive, caring and intelligent than many of his brothers (JD Slingblade comes to mind). I can only imagine how the poor kid felt growing up in that disgusting boy's dorm. It looks filthy, no sheets on the bed, the drywall is totally trashed, and I would venture to say that it probably reeks I remember a few years ago there was some speculation that some of the howlers had bed-wetting issues. A few eagle-eyed people spotted some heavy-duty fans in the room. Add the sheer number of young males who probably don't shower every single day and you have a recipe for a really foul-smelling room. Who knows? Sleeping in a tent at ALERT may have actually been a relief.
  6. I will join the chorus. Barefoot in a hospital? REALLY bad idea. My daughter and soon-to-be son-in-law are doctors, and they have told me that hospitals are the filthiest places on earth. And the white coats the doctors wear are pretty disgusting too. DD wishes she didn't have to wear one but it is hospital policy for medical students and residents to wear them at all times. Jill is so proud of being a "trained midwife", but she doesn't hesitate to go barefoot in a hospital corridor, and then rejoin her newborn son in the room? Great training she had...
  7. I can't speak for Marjorie, but I met my husband when I was 17 and he was 18. We got married a month before my 21st birthday and will celebrate our 35th anniversary this summer. Granted, we both graduated with associate's degrees and had decent jobs, we were engaged for a whole year, and we didn't have our first child until we were married for 8 years, but I did in fact fall in love at 17. Of course, we spent lots of time together without chaperones, we really got to know each other, and we didn't save our first kiss for our wedding day, so our "courtship" was very different from the happy couple's.
  8. Well that was just incredibly sad. But on a lighter note, the picture in the parlour? OMG! My grandmother's sister had the exact same one, albeit framed differently. I remember looking at it as a little girl and being vaguely disturbed that she was BLUE. Evidently they were popular not just in the UK- I grew up in Montreal.
  9. A year of exile at Alert and straight into a courtship? Seems a bit fishy to me. I like that she is more worldly, and a little cultural diversity certainly would not hurt the Duggars. Josiah will be 19 in August. If this courtship is longer, like Jessa's and Ben's, and given that she is only 17 I can see that happening, then the wedding might not take place until he is 20. Again, though, how will they support themselves? Where will they live? Feels like this is scripted. Two girls married, time for a boy to get hitched to switch things up a bit. I just hope he actually wants this and isn't being pressured into it. If he truly wants to pursue this then I wish him nothing but the best.
  10. This is too funny. My two sons are named Ian and Sean. They are in their 20's now, but I assure you there were no Scottish or Irish flags on the birth announcements. Heck, we didn't even HAVE birth announcements. No agenda for us, just wanted short names to reflect their heritage on my side of the family. DH is Italian with a very long family name. It may sound silly, but we wanted them to be able to fit their names in the boxes on forms, something my husband has had issues with all his life.
  11. Did they do a gender reveal for the M4 baby on the show yet? Could be that. Still hoping Jessa is not pregnant, but if she is, I have to give her credit. I would be willing to bet there has been no announcement yet because she didn't want it publicized. This is the bride who had her first kiss in private, after all. I think she is a little more protective of her privacy than Jill. Of course she will never drop off he radar, but she does seem to be less forthcoming about all the details of her life.
  12. Funny how the People article says Michelle has been "tag teaming" with Derick. Thought she and Jim Bob were in Iowa. You know they would never cancel a paying engagement to help out at home. What a load of hogwash.
  13. Kind of anti-climactic, given the baby has arrived. I know the wedding episode was also delayed, but that didn't seem so bad. I knew they were already married, but was still curious to see the clothes, reactions, etc. But going through the whole gender reveal, birth preparations, etc, when we know the baby has arrived, albeit with bit more drama than anticipated, IDK, just seems pointless to me. For the record, I didn't actually watch, I was out. I find the recaps and snark here much more entertaining than the actual show ever could be.
  14. I think they do. They made a big show of it when Josie was little, saying given her early arrival she had resistance issues, and they would do all they could to keep her safe. Then of course they dragged her off to Ireland, the UK, and Israel before she turned two, despite the doctors' advice to keep her home, which resulted in her having to stay in Israel when she developed some respiratory issues. But I digress...
  15. If Jessa isn't already pregnant, the fact that Jill's labor and delivery didn't go "as planned" just might make her consider that waiting a little longer isn't a bad thing. Just saying...
  16. Maybe Jill is just hoarse from all the heavy breathing during labor. I remember my throat being really dry and sounding hoarse right after I delivered. Kinda feel bad for her that she had to put on a good show for the cameras. She needs to rest while she can. My babies were all sleepy while we were in the hospital, but they woke up when we got home.
  17. Never had a c-section myself, but one of the Facebook photos shows Jill with the baby on her stomach. I can't imagine they would plop the baby there if she did indeed have a c-section.
  18. I noticed. Could be Jill just had to push for a really long time. I had to push for 2 hours with my daughter and she had what they called a "stork bite" on one eye. But tired as I was, all it took was one mention of the word "forceps", and out she came. Still, her eyelid was pink for almost a year, and I got so tired of people asking me what was wrong with her eye. Little Israel does look like maybe they did have to use forceps to help deliver him.
  19. Cute baby, happy parents, looks like a hospital delivery. Not a fan of the name, but I must confess I gave my son an "I" name too. Not biblical but Scottish. Not a lot of I names for boys-I can can only think of Isaac, Isaiah, and Ian. Igor and Ichabod I guess... Hope they do not do the I thing for all the kiddos.
  20. Amy did clarify that it was not about Jill. Guess she is feeling left out these days. ;P
  21. Does anyone know how common false positive pregnancy test results are? Given the fact that Jill was on a mission to conceive from the moment she said "I do", the fact that they tend to start testing days before a missed period, and that the tests used may have been from Michelle's stash (i.e., old), maybe Jill wasn't actually pregnant when she got her first positive result, and is just approaching her due date now.
  22. Oh for the love of God. Here is a young woman whose only claim to fame is that her mother had a freakishly large number of children. She gets married, promptly gets knocked up, and her impending labour and delivery is "breaking news"?? The Duggars have a well-oiled publicity machine, no question. And while I freely admit I have been checking for updates, I think I am done. I am going to look at wedding dresses with my daughter. I wish Jill a safe delivery, but geez, it isn't the second freaking coming. There are over 4 million births every year in the US. That's close to 11,000 each day. Hardly a unique event.
  23. Please not Joy. She isn't even 18 yet. And she really doesn't seem to want to get married and start popping out babies yet.
  24. This is not the first time Josh has been delinquent on taxes. When he lived in Grandma's house they were behind on the property taxes. I think it was a fairly small amount- less than $100, but they were still late. I think someone posted that there were delinquent taxes on a property listed as belonging to JD as well. I guess the Duggars feel that paying taxes on time is beneath them.
  25. Although Jill may not have a very high threshold for pain, I am sure she will do just fine. I do have a tendency to faint when I have severe abdominal pain. I had a few incidents during my teens when I suffered from pretty severe cramps. Naturally I was nervous about how childbirth would play out, but all 3 times, 2 with no anesthesia, I did not even come close to passing out. Not trying to sound poetic or noble, but there is just something about labour and delivery that brings out the strength in women. Maybe it's all the hormones ?
