Joy and Austin: This One Time At Family Camp
3 is enough replied to frenchtoast's topic in Counting On
Sadly, a lot of younger people out there are totally unfamiliar with the concept of shoe polish. It is not just Austin. -
Does this mean Eddie just signed her own death warrant? None of the Reagan wives seem to survive... All kidding aside, it was a fine finale. I really don't care about Jamie/Eddie one way or another, but I was getting tired of the "will they/won't they" story line. It dragged on way too long. Frank's mustache makes it really difficult to tell if he is happy or not. I got the sense he was not pleased.

No, you are absolutely right. Because I have way too much time on my hands I checked out her dress from the previous episode. It had a little cape that tied up in front. Also, it had gloves. The dress she wore last night had no cape, no gloves. It looked better, IMO. Still not something I would choose, but much better.

Sheldon's mother wore the same dress to Penny and Leonard's wedding! I was checking YouTube to see if the deleted telephone scene with MeeMaw had surfaced, (not yet) and happened to see a clip of Leonard and Penny's wedding. The dress looked familiar to me and I checked out last night's episode, and yes, the same dress! Not that it matters, just found it to be interesting. Add me to those who think that maybe the actress who plays Missy is pregnant in real life.

That was my take on it too.

The Unspoiled Speculation Reverberation

That would be fun to see. The younger Meemaw played by Annie Potts just seems to have a totally different personality than the older Meemaw played by June Squibb. Young Meemaw is not as doting- she loves Sheldon, but she doesn't take any crap from him either. I didn't get the same impression from older Meemaw. Admittedly it has been a couple of years and my memory may be hazy. -
In all fairness to Sheldon, if Mary has a will, and Sheldon is executor he will follow the will to the letter.
-
I was wondering about this too. My guess is despite Annie Potts' age in real life (and I can only hope I look that good when I am 65!) MeeMaw is in her mid to late 50's on Young Sheldon. I am basing this on Mary's age, which I am guessing to be early 30's given that she was pregnant with Georgie before she got married. She was probably 18-19- just out of high school. I know she was pretty young based on Connie's comments to George in the brisket episode. They never specifically state ages on TBBT, but my guess is they are in their mid-30's, so 25-30 years have passed since Young Sheldon.

I much prefer Annie Potts as Meemaw. -
I am glad that they made Georgie a successful businessman. And just because he isn't "book smart" does not mean he isn't savvy enough to run a successful business. Sheldon is a learning snob and looks down on anyone who does not have the same level of education, in the sciences, as he does. He does not recognize that there are many kinds of "smart". I can totally see Mary falling to pieces after George died and not being able to work for a while. And just because Sheldon got scholarships does not mean that his education was 100% free. There were most likely many other expenses involved with his education that had to be paid for.

S01.E21: Summer Sausage, a Pocket Poncho, and Tony Danza

I loved this episode, especially the Red Lobster scenes. Really great that they focused on the other kids for a change. This show has been a pleasant surprise- much better than I had imagined, but also kind of bittersweet, as we know George Sr. will be dead in 5 years. -

Every time I see this topic at the top of the page I am afraid Joy has announced another pregnancy... :( -
But he isn't a Reagan and only Reagans can be intelligent! ;P

As far as Cynthia goes, the show seems to be following the real character's life. She did suffer from depression and ended up leaving the convent and eventually married a minister. Honestly, as much as I liked Chummy, Sister Evangelina, and Patsy, I don't miss them as much as I thought I would. That's the way life works. People move on, people die. Also, given the time frame, there were so many changes happening in society. It doesn't seem realistic to think that all those women would just stay in Poplar delivering babies forever. There was also a significant drop in the number of young women choosing to be nuns as well. I think the last season may very well deal with the end of Nonnatus House.

Us magazine is also covering the story and it is featured on the MSN homepage now. I guess Derick is getting all the attention he wants now...

I always thought they were called "nose bras". I knew FJ, but I am Canadian. Still, for a split second I thought BC was too easy. FWIW: 1867: Original 4 provinces : Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia 1870: Manitoba, Northwest Territories 1871: British Columbia 1873: Prince Edward Island 1898: Yukon 1905: Alberta and Saskatchewan (Originally part of the Northwest Territories) 1949: Newfoundland and Labrador 1999: Nunavut (Eastern part of Northwest Territories) Sorry, as a Canadian/US dual citizen I feel compelled to educate my fellow Americans about our neighbour to the north. ;)

That must have been so traumatic! Do you mind me asking if your friend's mom called your mom to let her know? I knew what to expect but when it finally happened it still freaked me out a bit. But I was 12, not 9.

I love this! Come on Ms Shiley, if you really love these shows let us see the whole thing!

Too true. And beyond ridiculous. Never understood why the pro-life movement is also violently opposed to sex education and contraception. Makes absolutely no sense. My mother got me a booklet from one of the tampon manufacturers back in the late 60's/early 70's. It was pretty informative, and even talked about tampons. I think I was around 11 at the time. She also got me a box of pads and a belt to keep for when the time came. I was 12 when I needed them. In 1972, in 8th grade, we had a sex-ed lesson in our (co-ed) religion class at school. Kinda hazy but as I recall it was mostly very mechanical. No talk of birth control. Teacher told us we had better not laugh- this was important stuff. This was a (public) Catholic school in Quebec. They were always ahead of their time. We had altar girls in the late 60's, a good 20 years ahead of the US.

That was main reason I as so horrified. The thought of having to wash those rags, most likely by hand with a washboard, was unthinkable to my 12-13 year old self. My grandmother came from a large Irish Catholic family -there was not much money and I doubt they even had a wringer washer. Then the image of all those rags drying on the line was just awful to me.
-
I am old enough to remember using one of those things. You used to be able to get the belts with a "pretty lace trim" in pink or blue. It was a happy day when the first self adhesive pad came out in the early 70's. My mother never discouraged me from using tampons, but when I was very young I did not find them comfortable, then I got scared off by the toxic shock incidents in the early 80's. I also remember my grandmother telling me how she and her sisters used rags in the late 20's. I was horrified. Question for UK viewers: How long are the unedited episodes? I often watch online and the PBS edits run around 53 minutes. Do they cut out more than 7 minutes of content? Because even though PBS has no commercials, the only reason I can see for the edits is if the episodes run longer than an hour, which would mess up the scheduling. But surely they could cut out those ridiculous "behind the scenes" segments and at least keep a couple of the cut scenes.

That won't last forever. They are on a niche cable network. They aren't making huge amounts of money. IIRC, they never came close to cracking 1 million viewers per episode. And whatever they do get paid has to be split among a kazillion people. I certainly would not bank on that. Entirely possible. I am not feeling it today. Dealing with a rapidly declining aging parent and I just have no patience for people who procreate like rabbits with no worries about the future because "Jesus will provide".
