  1. My thoughts exactly. My freaking cable came back with 15 minutes to go, so I only saw Kate with Jack's ashes and the wedding. Will have to wait for NBC to have it up on their site tomorrow. But, the speech. It was a bit much, IMO. Too much dead Dad and not enough bride and groom. And Deja? Ok I understand she is upset. But that is absolutely no reason to take a bat to Randall's car. It won't bring her mom back.
  2. OMG I can't believe this. I was a good girl and stayed off of this site so I could watch unspoiled. Then 5 minutes ago my cable loses the signal for NBC. Just NBC. I am absolutely livid.
  3. After this latest Duggar home birthing disaster, I keep hearing John Oliver in my head saying: "Fuck you, Duggars, FUCK YOU!"
  4. Thank you, doodlebug, for this confirmation. I suspected this was the case.
  5. The finale was kind of ...meh. The house was not one of my favourites, and neither was the couple. The final result was very nice and all, but I kept wondering what the upstairs looked like. Are they looking at another $100K to get that fixed up? I know everyone has different priorities, but given the choice I would rather spend money on a nice master suite than front porch AND backyard party patio. I really did enjoy seeing Ben's excitement about the snow, and the baby is adorable. Kind of sad that we have to wait 10 months for another season.
  6. Jill is a menace. She should not be allowed to come within 500 feet of any pregnant woman. And Joy obviously was not getting regular prenatal exams from a real medical professional. Surely during the last month when weekly internal exams are performed a skilled doctor/midwife would have been able to tell the baby was breech. I am beyond disgusted. Michelle always got real medical care during her pregnancies. Why don't her daughters deserve the same? Oh yeah, because they and their husbands are so poorly educated they cannot get decent paying jobs and afford medical insurance, that's why... I hope to God Jeremy was sufficiently incensed to keep Jill FAR FAR away from Jinger. Hopefully she is getting real prenatal care, and when it is time to deliver Jeremy tells a little white lie and says the baby came too fast to call Jill and the camera crew. Thank God they are in Laredo- distance will help.
  7. I can't fault him for not wanting the boys filmed. But somehow I doubt he is that concerned about them.
  8. Maybe someone drops dead and disrupts the wedding? Then they have to reschedule... God I hope not.
  9. Talk about beating a dead horse... Honestly surprised Jim Bob would even consider paying for this lawsuit. Maybe he is hoping against hope for a big payoff so he can finally stop supporting Josh and his ever expanding brood.
  10. Probably just a desperate attempt for money. I remember a few years back he was late on some property tax payment. Maybe the city dared to fine him for it and he took offense, or maybe the city had the gall to to raise the permitting fees for the car lot? For all their self-righteous claims of frugality the Duggars sure do waste a ton of money on frivolous lawsuits.
  11. If they really aren't getting any money from TLC, would they not qualify for Medicaid? I know it's against their beliefs and all but if free medical care is available to them and they have already dealt with medical bills why not take it? Nevermind... it's the Duggars/Dillards. Common sense does not apply here.
  12. As far as Jeremy goes, another possibility which has not been mentioned is that he and Jinger got some help from his family with the down payment for the house. That is very much a cultural thing for Italians, and if I am correct, Jeremy only has one sister, and I think his parents are reasonably well off. They may have ditched the Catholic Church, but I doubt they let go of all their Italian family traditions. Ben's family does not appear to have any spare money, and Austin's seems to be of the "leave and cleave" mindset. Wonder if Cathy's support of her son extends to her wallet?
  13. I have seen a couple of teasers about the finale saying there "may" be a wedding. Since the preview shows Kate coming down the aisle and Toby smiling as he watches her, if there is a last minute change of heart at the altar I am going to be royally pissed off. I just hate that kind of drama.
  14. When Anthony told Erin that his former partner had a "tell" while playing poker, I immediately remembered the same plot device used in an episode with the former mayor. The writing this season has been choppy and sloppy. I understand that after 150+ episodes it gets harder to come up with original ideas, but I feel like they have been phoning it in...
  15. All this talk of compensation has made me very confused. As I understand it, when the Josh scandal broke, TLC cancelled 19 Kids and Counting. Shortly after they started filming Counting On. At that point Jessa and Jill were over 18 (actually over 21). Surely there was no way in hell TLC would not pay Jill and Jessa directly, if for no other reason than to protect themselves from any future lawsuits. Now, I can see Jim Bob telling the girls to funnel their paycheques into some sort of trust, and then dole out living expenses. I guess they just don't have the backbone to tell him that they can take care of themselves. What a godawful mess. So glad at least Jinger got away. I feel for those poor kids. They just are going to repeat the pattern and stay under Daddy's thumb forever. And with no education (honestly I think the younger ones are functionally illiterate), they have no options. I keep wondering how the show is still on the air, boring as it is. One final thought: How could any self respecting couple let their 18 year old daughter marry into this mess? SMH.
  16. I have lots of pictures and art on my walls too. I should have been a bit more specific. Not a fan of the gallery wall of photos. The thought of keeping them all straight is very daunting to me. Plus, my husband is a bit of a minimalist and always asks what is wrong with a nice clean wall. ;)
  17. Just wanted to say I have lived in Las Vegas for almost 16 years and no one decorates their houses with such gaudy colours and finishes. Even the casinos go for a more muted classy luxury feel in their rooms. I am not sure why she thinks that this over the top decor is "very Vegas". Away from the tourist areas this is a town like any other, except that a lot of our movie theaters are located in locals' casinos. Oh, and our water is extremely hard. The thought of keeping a black toilet or a purple sink free of limescale is daunting to say the least. The only people I can see buying these properties are Airbnb owners who want a gimmick to help rent the place.
  18. I never read Goodnight Moon to my kids either. Lots of other books, just not that one.
  19. I do not disagree, BckpckFullaNinjas. I also hope they stay true to their vision. I have read her blog and they do seem sincere about wanting to revitalize their town. At the same time it is becoming obvious that there is some pretty shrewd marketing going on. Maybe it is coming from their partners in the business. Certainly there is some ongoing serious analysis of social media, which is what all successful businesses do these days. If a lot of people comment about a certain item seen on the show, then selling said item is a no-brainer. There are people out there who are willing to pay more for quality, and I, for one, am always happy to see a made in the USA or made in Canada label. That's all fine. If they are content being a borderline luxury retailer and have success selling fewer more expensive items then more power to them. There is a market for that, especially when the economy is booming. I am just wondering if they do become as successful as the Gaines if they will "sell out" so to speak. I can't really fault them if they do. Nothing wrong with taking advantage of opportunities and making a lot of money during the time they are the "it couple" of home decorating. They can build a nice nest egg and then return to their small town life when their 15 minutes are over. They don't strike me as empire builders like C&J.
  20. Bingo. Sure lack of money is a big problem, but Shauna seems to be the kind of woman who needs a man in her life, and this is more important to her than her daughter. They showed her more concerned about her boyfriend than her newborn, she left a 3 year old alone to be with the boyfriend at the time, and then she uses her money to bail out her loser boyfriend even though she was behind on the rent and in danger of being evicted.
  21. I have to say, they are really taking advantage of the exposure on the show to market their merchandise. The cedar bath caddy that was shown on Monday night is now available at their store/website. It's $115. I understand that you pay the price for handmade goods, but the vast majority of their viewers simply cannot afford to buy them. So far they are sticking to their goal of featuring made in America products. But HGTV continues to push them as Chip and Joanna 2.0. The promos for the show run constantly, and season 3 is scheduled to have 13 episodes instead of 10. I wonder if they will eventually be offered a mass marketing deal like Chip and Joanna have with Target. That collection has some nice looking items, but it is all made in China. Gotta question if Ben and Erin would put their name on goods that were not American made.
  22. I really liked last night's renovation. Great job. I do not recall them saying the date the house was built so I am guessing it was a newer build. I was pleasantly surprised that Erin kept the vinyl siding. She has turned up her nose at it in the past. I understand the desire to maintain architectural integrity, but if I lived in Mississippi with the constant humidity and heavy rain I would want exterior materials that resist warping, mildew, and rot. Give me some triple glazed energy efficient windows so that I can keep the rain out and the cool air from my HVAC unit inside. My mother has that vinyl flooring in her condo. You would never guess it wasn't wood and if something spills you have no worries. Again, pleasantly surprised they chose it. That crib was gorgeous. Ben is quite the craftsman.
  23. Just goes to show all families are different. I did know the date of my parents' anniversary as a kid. They never made a huge deal about it, although we did throw them a big party for their 25th. I gave them cards when I was older, and for their 10th, when I was 9, my grandpa gave me some money and told me to get a gift with it. I know I bought something but can't remember what it was. I do remember when I was in my teens one year my father chided me for not getting my mother something for her anniversary. Typically, he did not. I told him it wasn't MY anniversary, and he should be the one to get her something. Anyhow, I digress, but Kevin knowing the date was not odd at all to me. And as Jack Pearson's son, the fact he wanted to do something actually made sense.
  24. I never noticed that either. On Erin's blog and her instagram it's constantly #iliveinlaurel. But come to think of it, in the intro they talk about living in a beautiful small town in Mississippi without mentioning it by name. That is just too weird. I mean, it's no secret where they live. Now I will have to listen for it too.
  25. Holy cow! I was so distracted by that BEARD! All I could think about was how does he eat? What does he look like under all that hair? And is his wife really ok with it? I like the renovations (or restorations), but I am not so much a fan of some of Erin's decorating choices. Too much clutter and too many pictures on the wall. I have found that as I get older I am less fond of clutter. The thought of having to dust all that stuff is just too off-putting for me. If the brick cutting guy goes through $400 of saw blades in a week how much did it cost to cut those bricks for tile? Reusing stuff found in the house is admirable, but definitely NOT free...
