  1. Yes! The shoes! Why? Michelle wore some sad beige flats with the pink dress monstrosity to Josiah's wedding too. Admittedly they were a step up from her Crocs, but still... Some women can't wear heels. I get it- my limit is 2 inches but I am more comfortable in 1.5 inches. But you can get a dressy shoe with a lower heel and still look put together. And honestly, I find that a tiny wedge is more comfortable than a pancake flat sole. It seems that with these women the "season of life" that comes after pumping out babies is "frump".
  2. Congrats to the happy couple. JD looks genuinely happy. Also, the beard works for him. The fact that they are actual adults, and not just barely of legal age makes me hopeful. JD seems to have more drive than most of his siblings. I would be willing to bet that he has a nice little nest egg stashed away somewhere. They seem to be less concerned about the ridiculous courtship and chaperone rules, and, of course, their baby making window is going to be a lot smaller.
  3. I may be wrong but I think little Felicity is wearing a hat, not a headband. Which is standard for a newborn, even if it is a bit frilly.
  4. I did get married a month before I turned 21, but we did not have kids for 8 years. Granted, this was 38 years ago, and people tend to get married later now. I cannot for the life of me understand teenagers wanting to have babies ASAP.
  5. My son and daughter-in-law are considering Ava for the name of their baby girl due in August. They are a bit hesitant because it is very popular now and they don't want 5 other Ava's in her class when she starts school. I think they will decide only after she is born. Right now they are calling her "no name".
  6. The reclaimed wood on the back of the island looks like it has fungus. Too much going on , especially next to the floor which is a bit busy, and the granite. Not sure if the floor is wood-look ceramic, but if it is the grout is much too light. They should have gone with a similar color to the tile. Just way too much going on pattern-wise. The cabinets, backsplash, and countertops look fine together. I think Zach and Whitney's kitchen looks nice. The floor is more uniform. The only nitpick I have is the small granite backsplash and then the tiles. It looks like the tiles were added as an afterthought. In my humble opinion, it would have looked nicer if the subway tile extended to the edge of the counter.
  7. Not to mention the added complication of a clingy wife and two young children.
  8. My main issue is that the house is 60 years old. Sure, he did cosmetic work but are the plumbing, HVAC, and electric up to code? How about the roof? That stuff is not pretty but it does eat into the budget. Given that it is a Duggar we are talking about I really have to wonder how much was actually done.
  9. I can see the appeal of barn doors leading into a smaller room where a standard door opening into it would take up precious space. Ideally, pocket doors would solve that problem but I think they are pricey, require a higher level of expertise to install correctly, and I imagine you need wall space free of plumbing and electrical wiring. But scale is important. I understand they have to be taller than the door opening, but then I would get a taller standard door so the heights would match. Just my 2 cents...
  10. My first thought on seeing the photos was "Fixer Upper on a budget". It's looks ok. Not a fan of carpeting but wood flooring was probably too expensive. Don't understand why are there no mirrors over the sinks in the bathrooms.
  11. I remember the date I got engaged because it is the same date as my wedding anniversary. It was a Thursday, and the next year was a leap year so it fell on a Saturday for the wedding. But yeah, if Anna got engaged on her birthday it would not be hard to forget. Although I would imagine there have been plenty of times in the last 3 years that she wishes she COULD forget...
  12. Is Kendra's mother pregnant? I must have missed that .
  13. Honestly though, one good thing about Cathy is that is pretty obvious is that she really loves her grandsons. I could see her taking care of them. And sending them to school.
  14. My daughter and her husband did the shoe game but they each took off one shoe. I know I am nitpicking but that looks odd. Still, it does seem more "mainstream" than previous Duggar weddings. ETA: I stand corrected. On closer inspection I see that Josiah is, in fact, holding one of Lauren's shoes. Not sure about the wheels and numbers are for though. Given the fundie aversion to gambling I can't imagine they spun the wheel and got guests to pay if they got the right or wrong answer.
  15. I guess Italians have similar expectations everywhere. It was the same in Montreal. It became quite the competition, and they all tried to outdo each other. If someone upped the ante and served lobster then it became the new "must have" menu item. The owners of the reception halls were laughing all the way to the bank. It wasn't just weddings either- there were baptisms, First Communions, Confirmations, engagements, silver and gold anniversary parties. Not to mention if you were invited to multiple events over the course of a few months you could not wear the same dress twice! I do not miss those days. It's really sad when an invitation to what is supposed to be a joyful event leaves you worried about how much it is going to cost you.
  16. I can see this happening, although I suspect that TLC foots the bill as part of the deal to allow them to film the festivities. In the late 50's-early 60's there was a large influx of Italian immigrants to Montreal and Toronto. When their children reached the age to get married, the weddings were quite elaborate- open bar, 7 course meal, and then around midnight, sandwiches, and pastries, just in case anyone was hungry. 200+ guests was the norm. This was how weddings were done, period. If the parents (both sets- it was split) could not afford it, the bride and groom gave the envelopes they received to their parents to pay for the reception. If the newlyweds got to keep some or all of the money they were thrilled, and this fact was was broadcast throughout the community. They also had engagement parties that were basically a smaller version of the wedding, and the showers were huge affairs where the bride got complete 12 piece place settings of her china and silverware, full cookware sets, small kitchen appliances, linens, and baby clothes thrown in for good measure. I was appalled by the latter, but those Catholic Italian mammas wanted grandchildren ASAP! I did not have this type of wedding because I am not Italian (oh the horror!) 38 years later, we are still married, and the cousins who married "nice Italian girls/boys" and got all of this stuff are divorced. Go figure. But I do remember my mother-in-law dreading the wedding season because she knew she was going to have to fork out a ton of money she really could not afford to spend...
  17. Yes, my daughter brought a box home after an interview there and multiple people on the plane offered to buy the box from her.
  18. I guess it just comes down to what you and your family are used to with regards to weddings. When I got married, and then when my daughter got married there was absolutely no question that there was going to be a full meal and an open bar. That said, we didn't have a huge amount of guests- about 100 at mine and 140 at my daughter's. Nothing wrong with cake and punch, if that is what is traditional with your family or in your area. And I definitely do not believe in breaking the bank over a wedding. I just get the impression that the Duggars invite lots of people to get more gifts but don't feel they have to go out of their way to be good hosts. Almost as if it is a privilege to be invited, so don't expect to be fed.
  19. Krispy Kreme seems to do this to themselves. Here in Las Vegas they ran a promotion that if the Golden Knights got a shutout at home and you brought in your ticket stub the next day you got a dozen free doughnuts. Given that no one expected an expansion team to have such an amazing season I guess it seemed like a pretty safe bet at the time. But they had 6 shutouts at home (4 in the regular season and 2 in the playoffs). T-Mobile holds close to 18,000 people and the vast majority of games were sold out. Of course not every person at the games claimed their free doughnuts, but if they had they would have been on the hook for 108,000 dozen . As it was my son in law went a couple of times to get his free dozen and he said it was a madhouse. The employees were definitely not happy about it. Of course the Duggars got as many doughnuts as they could. They do it every year. Hardly a surprise.
  20. So they are going to be married 5 years in December and they spent all that money on a vow renewal? Seriously? I don't understand. Yes, her dress is lovely. But they had bridesmaids and the whole nine yards...? SMH. Maybe if they had eloped originally, but they did not. I am kinda baffled... Maybe the show footed the bill- they needed another VSE?
  21. That would be "administrative assistant". ;)
  22. So agree! Zach's daughter just turned 2 and there is no sign of a sibling on the way. Plus he has a real job, and his wife works part time at least. Hopefully JD will lead a similar life.
  23. First: Happy for JD. He looks really happy. He has a better work ethic than any of his siblings, and I am glad that Abbie has some education and a real job. And she wears jeans! Second: I can relate to the male/female doctor/nurse discussion. DD is almost 30, but still gets carded regularly. She just finished her Internal Medicine residency, and despite wearing a white coat with her name and "MD" displayed prominently, she was constantly called "nurse", "hey girl", etc. Lots of "I want to ask the doctor", followed by "I AM the doctor". She says the biggest challenge she faces is getting people to believe she is, in fact, a doctor.
  24. You are probably right. Poor little guy. That is just heartbreaking.
  25. First thing I noticed. It's not just the height. I find his face is longer and more angular than a typical 3 year old's. If I saw him on the street I would think he was much older. I know I am reading WAY too much into this, but the awkward way he holds himself reminds me very much of my nephews when they were his age. They are both on the high functioning end of the spectrum. He is most likely just an awkward little kid, ( look who his parents are), but that's the gut reaction I get whenever I see his photos.
