Maybe because I feel not much happens on this show that isn't in the script, I think TPTB set that scene up with shirtless Luke ("Hey you two, what about we film a massage. Luke, how about you take your shirt off"), then sent Cam over, or whoever that was ("Hey Cam, it's your turn with Hannah, she's in that tent over there, go ask if you can steal her") so all three would be blindsided. (*drink*)

All to cause watercooler talk and online discussion so as to keep the franchise current and trending. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Like @JudyObscure, I watch this show for the snark and fun posting here. I'm not invested in whether anyone is there for The Right Reason, nor do I care if anyone actually "finds love." I pretty much forget everyone when the season ends, and much of the time I forget everyone DURING the season itself.

Oh I definitely think TPTB sent Jed in there and possibly gave Luke the massage idea.  I think Hannah looked too flustered and embarrassed to have been in on it though.  TPTB love to blindside the lead, i.e. paying for Cassie’s dad’s trip last season and still setting up that fancy fantasy suite dinner just for Cassie to dump Colton.  Colton didn’t have a clue, but TPTB knew she was going to dump him.

I think Hannah forgot where she was for a second.  She should’ve suspected the massage was a set up but she wasn’t thinking.

Yes, remember when a group of bachelorettes had to do a naked photo shoot? (They held posters in front of themselves) it was justified as being "for charity!" So that reluctance to strip down meant you didn't care about the dog shelter.  The "dates" that seem humiliating to me are the ones where you have to strip down, fight/wrestle, or parade in front of others who judge your body.  Most women, and I assume, most men, would walk out of a date that involved anything  similar.

That's so gross. Because even if the audience at home is just seeing the poster, the entire staff, camera crew, and the (often catty) other contestants are seeing the full show and it's probably on camera somewhere. That should never be a required activity.

I don't remember the incident above, but I do remember the photo shoot from just a few seasons ago where most were given full outfits, but one girl just got bikini bottoms and had to be the only one to go topless.

It seems especially weird when they exploit the women to such a degree because the audience for this show is so heavily female, it doesn't make sense to think T&A would be such a draw for this demographic. (For the record, I personally hate it when they do the same to men, but I can sort of understand how they'd think it would appeal to the audience in a Magic Mike/Chippendales sort of way.)

In general, I don't usually find the group dates themselves interesting, it's usually the aftermath that's got the most drama. Who didn't get a rose when they thought they would, who crossed the line during the activity, who gets more time with the lead. I'd love to see less time spent on the actual dates and more time devoted to what comes afterward.

Those types of articles are typically click bait anyway. It’s for people to share on their social media so they and all of their friends can proudly proclaim that their vulgarity is actually an indication of their high intelligence all the while clicking the article and earning ad dollars for the hosting site. 🙄

There are numerous scholarly articles on the topic, which were the source of my original comment. The person who replied grossly mischaracterized the very article she chose to cite (as made clear by the fact they quoted the article, not the study it referenced). You can easily narrow your search for actual scholarly articles if you're so inclined, and they don't get paid by the click.

As relevant here, I can understand it making for a frustrating viewing experience as the "beep" is annoying a hell and really takes you out of the moment. But swearing really isn't a basis for drawing conclusions about someone having poor character or low IQ, while appearing on the show really does seem to.

I tend to judge them much more for being on the show than the language they use, except when they say "John and I's date" or whoever. THAT IS NOT HOW ENGLISH WORKS!!!!!! I would rather hear a sentence filled with every swear word imaginable than anyone ever saying "her and I's whatever" ever again. Or "I'd like to do a cheers" or "like...I like....like....to....like....say....like....like....like, alot!"

So really, of all the horrific language on this show, a stream of expletives is pretty close to Shakespeare considering what comes out of these morons mouths.
