Of course Alexis got a slutty tramp stamp when she was 12.

I never got the appeal of roasts so that plot fell flat for me.

Highlight was definitely watching Stevie and Patrick rehearse.

Good to see Alexis finally realising she needs to give a bit more in her relationship with Ted. The character growth she had in the last couple of episodes of season 4 seemed to have disappeared as of late so good she's back on track.

Even though it was played for drama, I liked that Stevie and Patrick recognized that their dance skills weren't up to par and sought extra help.

My favorite tidbit from this episode was that Alexis had a successful semi-committed text relationship with Josh Hartnett while he was shooting Pearl Harbor.

I'm glad that Alexis finally realized that it's her turn to give in their relationship. I hope we get to see at least a clip of her sleeping in a tent because YOU KNOW that will involve a lot of shrieking and flailing.

Ugh! It seems to me this show has been going downhill fast for a long time now. Here it is two days after this episode aired and there were only two posts besides mine and the moderator's.

The previous episode, "The Parents" was almost equally bad.

I really enjoyed this show for the first two or three seasons. I've always enjoyed all of the actors - except for the one who plays Roland. I would tell you why I think it was a mistake to ever have Roland in this show but I'd get banned for bad language if I tried. Let me just say that I don't think he has hardly any talent and I don't think he brings anything of value to this show.

If anyone from the CBC is reading this, please put this show out of its misery and cancel it. It should have been cancelled after the 3rd or 4th season.

Dan and Eugene Levy already announced last week that next season will be the final season of the show. It's in the media thread.

I still really enjoy this show and am sad that there is only one more season.  Sniff.

Alexis getting advice from Twilla was good and shows that she wants this relationship to work.  Even agreeing to Cancun is a tentative first step in agreeing to the Galapagos Islands.

I really felt for Johnny as he was so out of his comfort zone at the Roast.  Was glad he had a couple of good jabs before going downhill.

Oh, and I would totally buy a ticket for Cabaret!!!

The episode didn’t air until last night in the US. I’m always shocked when people take the time to express such strong negative feelings about a show. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. Easy solution. Last nights episode was enjoyable, but not memorable (still better than most of what is on TV). Meet The Parents was one of the most touching episodes of TV I’ve seen in ages. I’ll be sad when the show is over.

No, I get it.  When you've loved a show for years and it seems to be petering out you don't necessarily stop watching, and you definitely can express disappointment that it has come to this.   I'll watch until the end but I'm also in the camp that the first few seasons were better and funnier.

Skulduggery lol. Loved this whole episode from the beginning with Stevie, Patrick and David till the end 'roasts'. Stevie and Patrick were so cute with their dance. Loved that Johnny did do well at the roast for a hot minute. Ted is just completely adorable. I'm happy that Alexis realized what the trip would mean for him.

That sort of threw me because as a previous Josh Hartnett stan during the Pearl Harbor years... how old is Alexis? I always pinned her around my age, perhaps a couple years older and I would have been like, 12 when that movie was filming (it came out in 2001 so would have filmed 1999ish). If she was of age, that would put her at 37/38 now.

Alexis was 27 in S1 which means she was born around 1988 (give or take a year). I don't think she's ever been concerned about being of age when it comes to guys (or anything, really) though. Her first kiss was Jared Leto and I doubt he waited until she turned 18 because come on, it's Jared Leto. I mean, this is the girl who got a tramp stamp in Hong Kong when she was 12.

Also keep in mind that her friend Summer was 15 when she dated Hugh Hefner (who was a very young 77) so apparently her peer group is all about the older men.

Alexis has done a lot of things that were not age appropriate including a wine tour in Bordeaux when she was 7 (that was all Moira's doing, but still), visiting the Playboy mansion when she was 7 (again, Moira), going to the Marie Antoinette premiere (which was in 2006 which means she was about 8), escaping from a Thai drug lord's car trunk by bribing him with sex during her spring break when she was 17, and joining the Pussycat Dolls when she was 15.

She probably lied to Josh Hartnett and told him she was older!

Also, texting in 1999? I didn't have a cellphone until 2005 but man was she ahead of the time.

I’m not going to pretend I knew this without looking it up, but texting has been around since 1992 and became more mainstream in 1997. I can imagine where the rich Rose Family had all the latest cutting edge technology toys. The age thing still bothers me though.

The Roses were rich; they could easily have been early adopters of all the newest technology. Plus, they were probably besties with the developers and got it before it was on the market, because why not?

I first got a cell phone in 2001, but it seemed like a lot of people I knew had them before I did. I know my dad had one in the mid to late 90s; no idea if it could text. Maybe Alexis and Josh had their semi-committed relationship via pager.

Alexis has had a wild life and done a lot of age-inappropriate things, but I also suspect she takes a very loosy-goosy interpretation of actual reality and may be mixing up details or dates or blowing things up into more than they were, because being strictly factual is not important *bunny hand flop*.

The funny thing about the texting debate is seeing how things became a thing for each of us at a specific time but also seeing that it doesn't necessarily translate to when it was available for the very select versus when it was widely available for the rest of us. My sister was the first one in our family who got a cell phone. She was in her junior or senior year of college so it was either 1997 or 1998 (remember when Clueless came out in 1995 and people were like OMG rich teenagers with cell phones?!). She said she specifically remembers that she did not have texting available on her phone. It definitely existed at the time but it wasn't a big thing that everyone had or did so it wasn't part of the standard cell phone contract.

Similarly, phones with internet weren't really huge until the first iphone came out in 2007, but I remember a friend of a friend had a phone with the internet in 2000. It was really cumbersome to use but it definitely existed. I remember we were at my friend's house deciding what movie to see and her friend insisted on looking it up on his phone (keep in mind that phones didn't have touchscreens or keyboards back then so imagine having to navigate using the arrow buttons on your phone and then clicking your phone buttons to spell things out (gotta push the 6 key three times to get an O!). I was like okay, that's great, but I could just look at the page of movie listings in the local paper and be done in like 10 seconds.

Anyway, that's why I have no problem believing that Alexis was texting with a movie star back then. Rich people and celebrities are always the first ones to have access to stuff like that.

I would argue the writing is just as strong now if not better than the first couple of seasons. "A Little Bit Alexis" has to be one of top three biggest laughs I ever got out of this show. And I loved Moira driving off and leaving David to walk home in this episode. 

I will acknowledge, however, that the novelty of the show has worn off, which may be what some fans are responding to. The humor of this show has always had that specific kind of SCTV vibe, with a Christopher Guest improv feel to it. That kind of humor is always pretty hit or miss. 

But I find the characters and the performances just as endearing as ever. No, not every episode hits it out of the park but it's still by far one my favorite sitcoms.

I don't think the number of comments in this forum is indicative of quality (although perhaps of popularity). Not many people get POP TV in the USA. I can't speak to its prevalence in Canada but until it started airing on Netflix most people in the US didn't even know it existed.

I think this show has experienced an influx of viewers now from Netflix: my guy, my BFF and I all being among them. And I see PASSIONATE love for it, everywhere, tho I've not posted here before now, because I didn't watch it until a couple months ago.  And now I've binged it and rebinged it and am now on a third watch, and it's become just part of our shared vernacular,  and it's one of my fave shows ever.

I'm just sad there's only one season that I'll be able to experience 'live' as it were, but I respect them for deciding to go out on a high.

I love them all, but I think Daniel Levy is some special kind of genius, and one of most appealing screen presences, like...ever. I love the inherent sweetness of this show, even if it's possibly a fantasy that any town could ever be this accepting and open minded and inclusive. I love how this family, and these people, who are not originally likable, have grown and changed and become better.

And yes, A Little Bit Alexis was fabulous and hilarious. Annie Murphy is so endearing.

I swear we already discussed this in another thread, but just chiming to add a few things. The show has been popular in Canada since the beginning (it's been the number one scripted Canadian comedy on primetime since it premiered in 2015) and has been nominated for multiple Canadian awards since S1.

The show has always aired concurrently in the United States, but on Pop (formerly known as the TV Guide channel), which lots of people don't even realize that they have. Most Americans started watching the show when it became available on Netflix in 2017 (after S3 had finished airing), which is how it gained popularity in the United States. It's now huge enough that the Schitt's Creek Live events have been selling out (the one I attended in San Francisco sold out the day that the tickets were released).

Even now that Americans are aware that the show exists and are watching it, many of them still only watch it on Netflix. My sister started watching the show on Netflix last year and when S5 premiered, I asked if she had watched the first episode yet. She said it wasn't on Netflix. I told her it was on Pop which is part of her cable package. She had no idea that she could watch it while it aired because she didn't know Pop was a channel that existed, let alone a channel that she had. Even when I had the crappiest/cheapest basic cable, I had the TV Guide channel/Pop. It's just one of those channels most people flip right past without stopping. I've had to tell many people who started watching the show on Netflix to search for the Pop channel on their TVs so they don't have to wait for months until the season is available on Netflix. 99% of them were shocked to find out that they had it.
