formerlyfreedom June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 The emergency room is flooded with patients from an annual Alamo reenactment. TC, Jordan and Kenny deal with a critically wounded patient who is disoriented and suffering from amnesia. The patient is also wearing a bracelet indicating he declines medical treatment, putting Jordan in a professional bind with Ragosa. Meanwhile, Drew must keep a severely wounded soldier alive while being miles away from help. Back at the hospital, Ragosa helps himself to aspirin in Landry’s office but soon realizes he has taken something very different. Topher schedules a vasectomy operation and the staff can’t resist the temptation to tease him at every turn. Jordan’s long-distance boyfriend Scott, surprises her with a visit to the hospital. CofCinci June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 Of course The Night Shift would cut a Do Not Treat bracelet off a patient; although, I was surprised Mean Freddy Rodriquez suspended her. This show reminds me of the terrible hospital ethics videos my workplace forces us to watch. Brendan Fehr steals this show. They should just spin him off because I'd happily watch Dr. Drew and Rick tour the old cities while dealing with generalized Army homophobia. His Reserve Drill Weekend From Hell felt like a show-within-a-show. If I were a Christian Scientist, I'd be so offended by this episode. Though, this show should get an A+ for diversity. Did my eyes deceive me or did we not get any shirtless men this episode? Bummer. Does every episode end with Freddy Rodriquez disclosing something personal to Hottie Shrink? And why the hell is clinical grade MDMA in her office unlocked? Oh shit, Bailey from Party of 5! Great addition!! Link to comment
formerlyfreedom June 18, 2014 Author Share June 18, 2014 One of my favorite things about this show is Kenny (I think he's the male nurse?), who keeps setting up that poor new doctor. And tonight's episode paid off on that, with the young doctor ignoring the patient (and Kenny's comments about her). So that was a nice bit of business. And agreed on the Drew/Brendan Fehr storyline tonight. TC could disappear, and I think no one would notice. That was a great story line, and he did a fine job. Ragosa wandering around stoned: Worth the price of admission. Link to comment
Maverick June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 TC could disappear, and I think no one would notice. Of course they would. The Board will quake in their boots (literally, it's Texas and on this show it means The Board members have to wear boots) and do whatever TC bids lest he quit and the entire city of San Antonio dies because he's not there to save them. He said so! The Cliche Force is strong with the show. Jordan became a doctor because her father wouldn't get medical treatment. And she has the Worst! Day! Ever! on her birthday, which of course no one realizes it is. And next week is only episode 5 and we get the Storm of the Century! Does Drew sing showtunes in his sleep or something? Seriously, how many people have figured out his secret now. Someone should tell him his gaydar has been set on transmit instead of receive and to just stop with the lame booby jokes from the 80s. When your coworkers not only know you're having your nuts worked on, but have a party complete with a cake(s) to celebrate, I think you've maybe gotten a little close. What the hell kind of doctor leaves psych meds on her desk and then leaves someone unsupervised after they've ingested them accidentally. To be fair, what kind of idiot doctor can't tell the difference between an aspirin bottle/pill and a psych med bottle/pill? 2 Link to comment
twoods June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 Oh, idiot doctors. The best kind. Cutting off a do not treat bracelet, not reading an EKG, taking the wrong medication, etc. Magical snowflake ED doctor/trauma surgeon to the rescue! Bitchy ex girlfriend who is pissy even though she has a boyfriend- and wie is her for having a bad say on her birthday. Way too many storylines crammed into one. Only highlight was a stoned Freddy Rodriguez and Drew's storyline. Link to comment
thuganomics85 June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 Ragosa should take ecstasy more often. He is way more entertaining that way. Well, at least TC didn't get on my nerves too much tonight (except him getting pissy that Landry just didn't automatically claim the patient was crazy. Concentrate on your own job, jerk), but that was mainly because it was Jordan that had to be the annoying ass this time. Cutting off "do not treat" bracelets and then acting offended when Ragosa suspends her. Really, he was actually calmer then normal about it, so she should have countered her blessings he didn't just flat out kick her out of the hospital. Whining over Landry doing her job. And then, of course, her childish reaction to TC/Landry. Don't even really care about Landry one way or another, but I was totally rooting for her to be like "You know what? Go fuck yourself, Jordan!" to her. And the reveal of how she became a doctor at the end just made me laugh. Oh, show. Never change. So, I guess it's settled. Kenny is the intern who is always going to fuck up and be picked on, to counter Krista being the badass intern everyone loves. Poor Kenny. Drew's story-line was the best and Brendan Fehr was good in all of his scenes. Glad that Michael from Roswell is doing well for himself! Topher was mainly in the background, but I love him for laughing at Ragosa's trip and especially his reaction to the Jordan/Landry spat. Ken Leung knows how to bring on the hilarious reaction shots. Jordan's dating Scott Wolf! When did he quit aging? 2 Link to comment
Sandman June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 See? More manpain revelation for the Angry Onion! Could he just keep taking E, please? I agree he's more fun that way. I'm still laughing at the idea of Dr. Alien's gaydar being jammed on its "broadcast" setting. I half-expected Jordan to casually drop "Oh, by the way, I want to meet Rick next time he's in town" on him in the elevator. I believe Scott Wolf stopped aging sometime in 1999. (He's almost a decade older than Jill Flint.) Link to comment
DeLurker June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 (edited) Kenny is the intern who is always going to fuck up and be picked on, to counter Krista being the badass intern everyone loves. Poor Kenny. Kenny is the male nurse who told the intern the labs were ready and to look at them. Paul is the intern who fucked up. I had to go to IMDB to look it up because I don't have people straight yet. And Krista, the other intern, got to appear for about 10 seconds this ep. I did like her scenes with Drew - they felt good natured and friendly. I second or third or whatever count we are on all the Drew love. He is almost a different show within a show. And a better one too. Ken Leung is all kinds of awesome too - his expressions are priceless. To be fair, what kind of idiot doctor can't tell the difference between an aspirin bottle/pill and a psych med bottle/pill? The thing is, Ragosa did look at the bottle so either he can't read or they weren't in the right bottle. Either way, Ragosa needs to drag himself and her to Legal and report them both for being incompetent. I missed the Angry Little Onion this ep. And HO walking out with his little present at the end when she's macking on her boyfriend - so very poignant. I'm surprised they didn't show him wiping away a little tiny tear! And I love how boyfriend's car is parked in what is probably a restricted zone at the hospital - you can see a parked ambulance right there, but no worry! You're a doctor - park anywhere! starri June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 You know, if I was creating a medical drama, I think I'd take ER's Attack of the Killer Helicopters as a warning of what not to do. TPTB here seem to have taken it as a starting point. With that said, because of the Drew portions of the show, I still think this is their best episode so far. I still have to question exactly who Drew thinks he's fooling, but there you go. In all seriousness, aside from Jordan begging to be chief of the night shift, why would they not go with Topher? He seems far too competent and has far fewer little dramas than Jordan. 1 Link to comment
twoods June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 Scott Wolf has to be a vampire. He is in his 40's and still looks the same as when he was on Party of Five. What is his secret? Too bad he's just a plot point so incompetent chief and snowflake can get together. Topher needs to be the lead, not those bafoons. Link to comment
dubbel zout June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 the young doctor ignoring the patient Why wasn't Paul suspended? Ignoring test results is neglect, if not outright malpractice. But no, because he decided to sit with the patient he nearly killed, Jordan just smiles at him and it's bygones. Cutting off "do not treat" bracelets and then acting offended when Ragosa suspends her. Ugh, I know. I hate that this show has the doctors do this sort of thing and then basically get rewarded for it. In all seriousness, aside from Jordan begging to be chief of the night shift, why would they not go with Topher? He seems far too competent and has far fewer little dramas than Jordan. You answered your question right there. What's the night shift without dramaz? Link to comment
dmeets June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 Was I supposed to feel sad for TC when he saw Jordan macking on what appeared to be a Madam Tussaud's statue of Scott Wolf? Because I couldn't give less of a shit about TC and his pain. But then, it turns out Jordan is an entitled asshole as well, so maybe she and TC deserve each other after all. I'm confused how Paul managed to get through med school, given his total incompetence and fear of blood. But I guess that He Cares About His Patients moment at the end makes it all good. Hopefully the Storm of Doom takes out TC, Jordan, and the interns. Link to comment
Sandman June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 (edited) Lil' Stoned Onion said he took some of Sexy the Shrink's (what's her name? Lanyard or something?) aspirin but he was "Pretty sure they're not aspirin"; from what I saw, it looked like they were stored in a generic analgesic/aspirin bottle. She clearly wasn't storing them appropriately, but he probably didn't appear to look closely at the tablets before downing a couple. Is it realistic not to distinguish MDMA from ASA pills? I have no clue. Paul is just stupid. Edited June 18, 2014 by Sandman Link to comment
Dowel Jones June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 Maybe the Shrink really had a plan in place. A little MDMA, a little video, no more legal/accounting issues. It looks like Jordan is in a dead heat with TC for the lead in the "I'm a doctor, I can do what I want" sweepstakes. Seriously, I would like at least one episode, or even a partial, that shows the reaction of the adult supervision to this Romper Room crowd. It's starting to look like a Hallmark Movie of the Week with a happy ending every time. In real life, wouldn't an Army vehicle have an Automatic Vehicle Locator on it? One that wouldn't be disabled in a crash? And by the way, maybe try and fix the antenna first? I'm not even getting into the ethics of the free fire zone stuff. Or the cow on the base. I agree with CofCinci about the treatments of Christian Science. Not only are there other religions espousing similar views on medical treatment, but Jordan's attitude was especially condescending. Bad writing. When your coworkers not only know you're having your nuts worked on... When the roach coach guy knows the score, you might consider switching hospitals. Link to comment

LittleIggy June 19, 2014 Share June 19, 2014 Why would an executive like Ragosa work a night shift? Link to comment
dubbel zout June 19, 2014 Share June 19, 2014 I would think some sort of administrator would need to be around. And given how much nonsense happens at this hospital, the night shift definitely needs someone who can rein them in, even ineffectually. Link to comment
Cattitude June 19, 2014 Share June 19, 2014 I'm so glad someone confirmed it was Scott Wolf b/c I saw him in a preview last week got excited then realized my age and assumed it wasn't REALLY him b/c that guy was way too young. He hasn't aged much for sure. I love him I hope he takes over and DrSpecialistSnowflake fades away. Not enough Topher tonight but still good. ManpainAngryOnion trippin' on E was a little too OTT for me. It was funny but no way he'd work like that or they'd let him wander around his own hospital THAT unprofessional. Glad the campy comedy got dialed back. The Drew drama and Paul the intern getting schooled BOTH well done. The Paul situation is def realistic and getting called out but not in trouble plus and seasoned nursing knowing more than a cocky intern spot on. Overall much improved from previous weeks. Bring on Scott Wolf! Link to comment
