Matt and Sweat run into walls and other obstacles as they search for a way out, but the power of positive thinking helps to keep them on track. Tilly begins to feel guilty about her mounting indiscretions, but she has a funny way of showing it.

This series continues to be outstanding. I love the way they treated Tillie's unfolding infatuation with Sweat and how Matt played on that.

Heh, when you're buying tools for your prison lovers you probably don't want to put the purchase on a credit card. Just sayin'...

Funny that no one wondered why Sweat was getting so swole all of sudden. At least Lyle Matt was already sort of a big guy so it would be less noticeable on him.

Probably the biggest mistake Lyle Matt made was telling Tilly anything, even a fake cover story about going to Mexico.

That was my question exactly. I waited for him to start laughing after he delivered that line but...nope. I also wondered why he didn't tell Tilly the story he told Lyle about the painting (which I thought was a really good on-the-fly lie). I've a feeling that omission is going to come back to haunt her.

I thought it was meant to freak her out. When he didn’t break character and laugh it off that was the vibe I got and her reaction seemed a bit “is he serious?” then of fear at maybe she did not know who she was dealing with. I think things are about to get very interesting. All the tunnel scenes made me so claustrophobic I could barely breath, obviously the directors intended purpose. Well done. Okay I’ve had enough of underground tunnel digging and am ready for the main event. Great show.

Oh Tilly, that credit card is going to come back to bite you! Rookie move. I gotta say, this show does a great job at making sex look extremely un sexy. Just not even a second of actual sexiness to be found, its all so tawdry and dirty. Especially the Polaroid vagina pics. I guess when your having an affair with the prison inmates in your wood-shop, thats just kind of how that goes, but still. I mean, Tilly has to feed her thirst somehow I guess, with naked pics, romantic letters about sucking dick, and spit lube. Romance! I do love how they show Tillys growing infatuation with the inmates, and how desperate she seemed to be for some adventurer in her life, and to have something she considers nice. Her trying to jump into the conversation with the rich ladies was just painful to witness. I mean, other than her affair, the highlights of her life are apparently NCIS, and the occasional margarita.

Those tunnels make me claustrophobic just looking at the screen, I keep feeling like they might collapse at any second. The atmosphere of the show is one of the best parts of the whole thing, there is just this cold, dirty, oppressive feeling throughout, both in and out of the prison.

If I had time, I'd go back and rewatch the first episode, but hope someone here can answer my question:  was it explained why the white-haired guard (David Morse) is so chummy with Matt?  I missed the explanation of their connection -- is it financial, do they know each other from before prison?

From the beginning, the guard seemed more like a buddy.  Last week, it seemed like the guard is aware that Matt is exploring the tunnels. This week he's watching TV with Matt and arranging to get Sweat moved back to his tier.  I don't recall Matt giving the guard any payoffs, so what's their deal?  Thanks.  😊

While we're asking to be reminded of things...what was the reason Sweat was originally moved down to another cell block? Was it because he didn't want to do it anymore with Tilly? But why would that cause that to happen? If I can just put that piece together, I'll feel whole again. :)

I haven't watched every minute of this, but I think I might be able to answer these two questions.  The David Morse character was really taken with Matt's artistic abilities and had him paint a portrait of DM's wife or girlfriend.   Because of this, DM gave Matt some special treatment, such as hiding him and his paint supplies when a full check of the cells occurred.  This is when Matt realized that behind the cells was this maze of walkways that could lead to the outside.  DM is starting to get a little suspicious, though.

Sweat was moved because someone wrote an anonymous letter to prison mgmt.  I don't remember exactly what the letter said but I think it mentioned the many trips to the supply room with Tilly.  I think the cell block where he originally resided was the Honor Block.  In essence, Sweat got busted down to the regular cells.  He also lost his job in the sewing dept. and had to work in the prison library.

I hope I got these right!

I wonder how closely the series is staying to the truth.

In the book I read based on the story there was no fire in the cell next to Matt's. He persuaded the guy to move with money, food and homemade porn  (no specifics on that). There was no contact at all between Joyce's husband and those two inmates, and she gave them multiple tools in two different packages of meat, and smuggled some in her purse.

Does she not know why everyone called him Hacksaw? And if she did, why on earth would she give him hacksaws?

The connection between the guard and Matt was the art, his paintings. He loved his art work. He even liked David Sweat's paintings.

Sweat wasn't moved out of Honor Block, but he was moved from the upper tier which was for lifers and obviously a preferred location. 

I got the impression that Matt wrote the "anonymous" letter in order to put pressure on Sweat to join him in the escape plan.  Sweat was younger and more fit, and did the lion's share of the work in the tunnel.

They're not really tunneling like the POWs in The Great Escape, they're just exploring the existing sub-structure of the prison.  I think it feels claustrophobic because they're doing it in the dark with nothing but a single flashlight and those goofy glasses.

Additionally, Matt's serving as a sort of middle manager for him.  Instead of having all the inmates on the block bother him for things (like jumping a fuse, phone call problems) the prisoners see Matt, and he funnels those requests while keeping the inmates under his thumb and well-behaved.  It makes the escort guard's job much more tolerable, and helps "train" the new arrivals to act right.  For example, he didn't request Angel's higher end fuse until Angel learned to come correct and ask nicely. I'd say there might also be some kind of payment to Matt that gets passed onto the guard, but I don't really think cash is a thing in prison.

I think she did.  She knew Lobel's prison nickname (Murder.)  Even though it's against Corecraft policy to use nicknames.

His original excuse was that he wanted to build a proper frame for the painting of her dogs and at first she seemed to buy it.

He gives him very nice paintings in exchange for good treatment.

Because it because pretty obvious he was banging Tilly.  He lost his job and his cell.
