formerlyfreedom June 7, 2014 Share June 7, 2014 TC and Paul are called to the chaotic scene of a nighttime hog-hunting excursion that has gone horribly wrong. One patient has lost a hand to a feral hog and another has been shot with an arrow through the chest. Topher deals with a resourceful 9-year-old girl who has come to the hospital on her own to seek treatment but soon realizes the case is far more complicated. Drew injures his hand during a MMA fight and enlists Krista to help him keep it a secret from Jordan. Ragosa seeks some family counseling from Landry and when Ragosa threatens to close down the staff hangout known as the "Tailgate," Landry helps him understand the benefits of a compromise. My aside; when I saw the title, I wondered if this is where the infamous promo shot came from - Hog Wild? Really? Doesn't look like it though. 1 Link to comment
CofCinci June 11, 2014 Share June 11, 2014 2 minutes of shirtless, aggressive Brendan Fehr, praise Jesus. Though I worry that was the shirtless beefcake quota for the episode. If scenes like that happened in the military, I would have stayed in more than 4 years. Okay, there's enough trauma to send in a helicopter but the wild Rednecks can't calm their shit down so the doctors can do their work?? No police on the scene? 20 years since the OJ trial? Fuck, I'm old. Neglected Child of the Week is so precious. Oh gawd, the wild boar is running around the hospital. This show is such cheesy, campy ADHD fun. The redneck sister with the coffee pot, cream and sugar, loved that scenery chewing. One thing greatly appreciated about this episode -- no one going on and on about patients nothaving health insurance. Oh Doctor with the mole, don't go kissing him. Oops, too late. Why is the psychiatrist wearing that outfit at 7:00am? Can she try standing up straight or is TC going to cure her of her scoliosis with his obligatory shirtlessness. Intern in the closet in the Rescue Annie costume while TC and Psychiatrist have sex was hysterical. Almost laughed out loud. 1 Link to comment
I-Kare June 11, 2014 Share June 11, 2014 (edited) Jeffrey Pierce. JEFFREY PIERCE!!!!! Okay, I was just hanging on because of my love of Brendan Fehr (both because he was hot and now hotter, and because I find his character to be the most interesting). But Jeffrey Pierce is a game changer for me if he sticks around (please?). In the past month I've marathoned both Charlie Jade and Cult (and thought about rewatching Alcatraz). Love this man. formerlyfreedom June 11, 2014 Author Share June 11, 2014 @I-Kare, yes, when I saw him pop up, I thought, "I'm in!" I've been on the fence these first episodes, because quite honestly, TC and his lady problems don't interest me a bit. But Drew's storyline, the stories that Topher has had, the stuff with the CPR Annie and Kenny, Paul & Krista, and yes, even Freddy Rodriguez (who is now younger then me from what I can tell? Seriously, how does he do it?) being the nasty little administrator are giving me some serious entertainment value, and now, Jeffery Pierce! Would I watch this during the regular season? Probably not. But as summertime stuff? Works for me! 2 minutes of shirtless, aggressive Brendan Fehr, praise Jesus. Yes, more please... 1 Link to comment
photo fox June 11, 2014 Share June 11, 2014 Did HO'S seriously say derisively to that guy, "you didn't serve (in the military)"? I want to punch him in the stupid face. I'm a Marine's daughter, and I have all the respect in the world for the military, but that was a dick thing to say. He has no idea what that guy (or anyone else) didn't serve. The vets I know would never say such a thing. Ms. Mole (sorry, I don't know all their names) is certainly full of herself. Dr. Drew doesn't want to make out with her at work, so he must be gay! It couldn't possibly be that he has someone else, or is too professional to screw a co-worker, or just doesn't find you attractive. Jeez, what a heavy-handed story. As usual, Ken Leung was a highlight, as was Freddy Rodriguez. Team Rugosa forevuh! I can't wait for him to find out the sanctimonious psychiatrist is playing both sides against the middle - lecturing him about how to deal with HO'S while banging him in the supply closet. 3 Link to comment
I-Kare June 11, 2014 Share June 11, 2014 Stacey I agree, this episode really picked up for me, even beyond the focus on Drew and the appearance of Jeffrey. I always give new shows at least 3 - 5 episodes before I make a judgment, so maybe this is starting to gel. photo fox, it always takes me a while to figure out names in shows. And I agree with you as well, I don't see a reluctance to make out at work as a clear indication someone is must be gay. Quite the leap there (that just happened to land). Link to comment
LittleIggy June 11, 2014 Share June 11, 2014 I enjoy this show. It's not great or profound, but fun to watch. BTW, I did a spit take when the shrink said she was wearing that dress because of the brunch date AND her niece's confirmation afterwards! Seriously? What church is the confirmation at? Our Lady of the Boobies? 1 Link to comment
thuganomics85 June 11, 2014 Share June 11, 2014 (edited) Jeffery Pierce was recently on The Tomorrow People too, and was one of the best things about it. And he was great on The Nine a few years back. I wonder if he'll be back, although they'll easily run the risk of making me prefer him over TC. Wait, never mind, that's already happened. Yeah, Krista/Dr. Mole really did jump to the "Are you gay?!" response really quick with Drew. I would have thought that she would have first thought that maybe he already had a girlfriend or something (I could have sworn that Drew claimed he had "someone" in the pilot). But there were other possibilities, like maybe he didn't want to to get involved with a co-worker (especially someone who is only an orderly/rookie, right?), or, gasp! Maybe she just isn't her type. Whatever, it's all unimportant now. I do think she's being serious about keeping his secret, but I wouldn't be surprised if this ends with her letting it slip somehow. I will admit that I actually liked all the stuff with the little girl, because of Topher. Ken Leung is awesome. I'm almost starting to root and feel sorry for Administrator D-Bag Freddy Rodriguez. I actually respect the hell out of him for not just going "Oh, shut the hell up!" to that one nurse that whined that the break-room was "haunted" (and the actress didn't deliver the line in a sarcastic or wiseass manner; she sounded serious as hell). And for some reason, Dr. Nora's approach with him came off too mean at times. It's hard out there when you aren't a "cool" doctor! Edited June 13, 2014 by thuganomics85 Link to comment
Good Queen Jane June 11, 2014 Share June 11, 2014 So wild hogs can bite off hands, swallow them whole, and keep them intact in their stomach for several hours without digesting them and the hand can be recovered with only a little incision in the belly of the hog and reattached to the human without any problem . I did not know that. The things you learn by watching television! 2 Link to comment
dubbel zout June 11, 2014 Share June 11, 2014 the wild Rednecks can't calm their shit down so the doctors can do their work? That cracked me up. They were supposed to be too drunk to stop, but if they were that drunk, why were they able to drive? TC and his lady problems It's the ladies who have the problems, which is deeply annoying to me. TC just keeps humping along. Did HO'S seriously say derisively to that guy, "you didn't serve (in the military)"? I want to punch him in the stupid face. I know. As if not serving makes him less of a doctor. It was all dick-swinging for the psych lady, though, since the x-ray guy made such a point of saying the vascular surgeon was hung. So of course Dr. Manpain had to make sure he wasn't shown up. The UCG on this show is fantastic. Link to comment
Cattitude June 12, 2014 Share June 12, 2014 Could the show just drop everything DrSpecialistSnowflake. I liked everything BUT him. Forcing a woman to give blood against her will and making her okay with it. I little too far for me. Topher should be the lead. Whoever writes the drama aspect is pretty good, but the comedy is so transparent I'm laughing alright AT THEM not with them. Terrible comedy writing. Still entertaining though. 1 Link to comment
Dowel Jones June 12, 2014 Share June 12, 2014 The lawsuit settlement should keep sister IDon'tWanna in creamer and sugar for the rest of her life. Regarding TC's comment: So, we can take it that TC went through medical school, internship, etc., and then manly enlisted as the Army's Premier Trauma Surgeon? Or perhaps did he go to school on on Army Scholarship and then served his internship in the Army, including Afghanistan? This is the night shift. Ragosa is always conferring with the lawyers on the legality of procedures. I hope the hospital is getting a hefty after hours fee added on. Does the day shift get to use The Tailgate for breaks and after hours whoopdedoo? I loved the interaction between Ragosa and Dr. Psych. "You're my boss, but right now, you're my patient. (Keep in mind there's no conflict of interest there, whatsoever. Especially when you go to work up my performance evaluation.)" 1 Link to comment
DeLurker June 12, 2014 Share June 12, 2014 (edited) They were supposed to be too drunk to stop, but if they were that drunk, why were they able to drive? Speaking from days of yore, being drunk in no way prevents you from driving an ATV. The eventual crash you get into while doing so generally does...My drunken crash was because I was a stupid kid (probably 14, maybe 15) who didn't know how to drive an ATV or anything else. I loved the interaction between Ragosa and Dr. Psych. And her telling him to stop being a dick. Maybe next week she'll tell him to "suck it up". The highlight was really Topher and that little girl. I was sad they didn't close with a scene of Angry Lil Onion's Manpain. Contrary to the rest of the general population, you can work at a high pressure job in the night shift and look as attractive at the end of your shift as you do starting it. Compared to some of the new summer shows coming I saw in the commercials, Night Shift might turn out to be Shakespearean. Edited June 12, 2014 by DeLurker Link to comment
Yeldarbe June 12, 2014 Share June 12, 2014 my DVR didn't catch the first two episodes of this, which after reasing the posts here, I'm okay with. I liked it well enough to keep watching it. Not a whole lot else going on this summer. The little girl was cute, I liked that story line. Not sure how I feel about them just blatantly breaking the law and stuff though. (This week's forced blood transfusion and next week's bracelet thing.) Link to comment
Ohwell June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 I've watched a couple of episodes and this show is starting to grow on me. I don't know all the names of the characters yet, but I like the Ken Leung and Freddy Rodriguez characters. For some reason, I don't care too much for the lady psychologist. On a shallow note, I guess the lead guy (TC?) is supposed to be hot in a scruffy kind of way, but I think the gay guy and the black doctor are more attractive. The redneck sister who didn't want to give blood is a really good actress in everything she does. The little girl was adorable and her daddy was hot. I'm glad he was going to be ok. 1 Link to comment
prican58 June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 The little girl reminded me of a very young Miranda Cosgrove, only cuter. Is the guy who plays TC not of the USA? His first name is odd so I'm guessing Great Britain? Forgive my laziness for not checking imdb. Link to comment
jaytee1812 June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 Is the guy who plays TC not of the USA? His first name is odd so I'm guessing Great Britain? Forgive my laziness for not checking imdb. It's just the Irish spelling, it's pronounced 'Ian', so not that odd. The actor is from Dublin. Link to comment
dubbel zout June 14, 2014 Share June 14, 2014 (edited) I was reading an older copy of People today before getting my hair cut, and that reviewer called Eoin Macken's character "McDreamy caught in the wrong stage of REM," which I thought was hilariously apt. starri June 14, 2014 Share June 14, 2014 I have to wonder if I wouldn't have a completely different opinion about the show if it wasn't for TC. I mean, I can deal with them playing a little loose with the medicine if it makes things entertaining, but having to see TC be such a Mary Sue plus having to swallow the idea that an extremity can stay viable in a boar's stomach is just too much. And it's a shame, because I think I like all of the other characters. TV could use a good medical drama, and I'm just sorry this is all we have. 1 Link to comment
Sandman June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 (edited) I was sad they didn't close with a scene of Angry Lil Onion's Manpain. Did you not see how his office was being destroyed by a wild boar? Oh, the humanity! I'm totally counting it. Can a single episode go by without Tragic Consequences or Dr. Sexy completely ignoring the need for consent? Sisters squabbling? Can't get consent for a transfusion? Informed consent? Whatevs. Patient autonomy? Pff. Yeah, right! Just knock 'er unconcious! Because ... um, war? I'm guessing Mister Lil' Onion has Legal on speed dial every shift. Or he just has an open cell call going constantly. It's just the Irish spelling, it's pronounced 'Ian', so not that odd. The actor is from Dublin. Is it "Ian" or "Ewan"? (Or "Owen"?) I've heard various reports. Edited June 18, 2014 by Sandman Link to comment
