10 | Based on So You Think You Can Dance‘s preview at the end of this week’s episode, are we to assume this season will have zero live performance or results shows? And if so, how much less interested are you in watching the entire competition?

'So You Think You Can Dance’ 18 episode 6 recap: A showmance started to take shape in ‘Challenge #2: Broadway’

The following day it was time for results: Allison called dancers forward: Anthony, Dakayla, Roman and Braylon. Those four were in jeopardy, but that seemed like a pretty random assortment of dancers to me. Anthony? Really? Roman after the praise he received but not Mariyah whose timing was off after the bump? Not saying this was an easy choice, but this result just didn’t seem totally consistent with the judges’ own critiques. And we didn’t see the judges confer with the choreographers about how the dancers did during their rehearsals. So it was hard to understand why these four were singled out.
*  *  *
Maks gave Anthony a standing ovation, and they were all surprised by his maturity after they thought he was too goofy in the group routine. We never heard them say that to him, though, they said that to Jaylin, so that was confusing. Also, they wondered why Anthony couldn’t bring this intensity out in the group routine … but that wasn’t at all the kind of group routine it was! Did they expect him to deliver Daniel Day-Lewis energy in what was basically a rom com dance number? These judges had me scratching my head at times this week.

A comment on that article sent me down a google chase and resulted in this:

Alex D Wong and Roman N.

Roman suffered from the absence of pair dancing. He's not built (by height, if nothing else) to be part of a line-up. I hope Maks sees that he gets a spot on DWTS. Alex, as always, continues to prove there's no style of dance he can't master.

So You Think You Can Dance: What are you doing?!?!

PLEASE put the focus back on the artistry! Let us have more numbers with fewer people in them and return to spending time talking about crafting the dances, why certain artistic decisions are being made, etc. I don’t know who the contestants are, they’re being eliminated SO fast without our ever getting to see them do anything! (In the past, even the person who was eliminated first at least got to do one big duet on the first episode) Being in the background of a fake music video isn’t actually testing them as dancers, and giving them three days to learn a relatively simple Broadway routine is nothing like the real world.

Knowing what this show CAN be makes these changes all the more painful. I don’t know anyone who will be inspired to start dancing (or even go to a dance show) watching this season – and that breaks my heart. SYTYCD held an incredibly unique place in our culture – it was where the new dance was being cultivated globally, and if that goes away, I’m scared to think what it will do to the dance world. PLEASE put artistry and move an audience back to the center of this show. You’re in the process of alienating a lot of people… there’s still time to change course.

Have they been crediting the choreographers of these group dances?  I feel no, but I AM fast to ff, so maybe I'm missing something.

I enjoyed that.

I believe they are. It's been one of the two choreographers that they have for the smaller groups. It's been Luther, Al Blackstone, and I think the last one was Chris Scott. I'm not sure about Chris for this week. I noticed that this season seems like they wanted more commercial dancers. Avery, Braylon, and Olivia were more Classical/Contemporary or Broadway. I think Make will help Roman.

So You Think You Can Cry

For a show called So You Think You Can Dance, the first few episodes of the latest season don’t feature very much of it. Unfortunately, the lack of dance content is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the issues present in the 18th season of the reality show.
*  *  *
It’s important to note that the dancers featured in these auditions are all incredibly talented. Rather than highlighting their talent for what it is, the narrative pushed for everyone with screen time, is that they excel in spite of circumstance, whether it be loss, grief, disability, poverty, etc. Young talents, hungry for the chance to prove their ability, are exploited for their sob stories and reduced to inspiration porn. These narratives devalue dancers’  hard work and strip all nuance from the conversation, creating a point-and-stare spectacle out of each of their most traumatic moments, all in the name of nonsensical buzzwords and a pathetic attempt at activism and allyship.

So You Think You Can Dance Exclusive: Witney Carson Unpacks Her ‘Surreal’ Return — Plus, the Dancing With the Stars VIP Who Could Entice Her Back

The last time So You Think You Can Dance viewers saw Witney Carson on the show, she was 19 and an All-Star during the 10th season of the dance competition series. So, her Monday, May 13 visit back to the Fox show is long overdue, and it’s a moment that the now-30-year-old dancer is describing as “surreal.”

“I keep saying full-circle moment because it really felt like that. I mean, I started when I was a baby,” she shares with Soaps.com. “I had braces on. I had no idea where my career would take me. I just took that first leap of faith to get on that show, and it was really cool to step back on and be proud of all of the work that I’ve done and to give some inspiration to those kids.” Yes, Carson is calling the current crop of contestants, “kids” because she’s now a wife and a mom to two adorable sons, Leo, 3, and Jet, 1, — and she’s also a very successful content creator with a brand ambassadorship with Gatorade.
*  *  *
“Gatorade has always been a really big, iconic brand that I’ve had my eye on, so it’s really just been a dream to work with them,” Carson says enthusiastically. “And that’s true to what we’re trying to portray, it’s that Gatorade Water is for everybody, always in motion. We all have that connection with one another. We’re always moving.” She also believes that “brands and dancers have been in the forefront” with the popularity of TikTok, so this makes her cameo with Gatorade on So You Think You Can Dance “the most real-life challenge that they’ll have in their career.”

7 | Do you suspect So You Think You Can Dance host Cat Deeley felt awfully silly calling Monday’s finale outcome “the closest result we’ve ever had,” when this season’s winner was picked only by the three judges, and not America?

JoJo Siwa kissing Madison

The Daily Mail is trash, but a photo is a photo and that is a photo of JoJo kissing Madison. Not a good move as a judge. Considering the ratings, she probably doesn't have a job to come back to.

Huh. Next time they can skip the shared housing nonsense and just hang out at the airport 🙂

Grown adults and all that, but... given the scandals of the past with judges and choreographers, you'd think JoJo would have a little more respect for the show and future hopefuls.

On Wednesday, Aug. 14, the former Dance Moms star, 21, hard-launched her romance with So You Think You Can Dance alum Dakayla Wilson, sharing a video of the two hugged-up on her Instagram Stories.

During what looks like a studio dance class, Wilson dances around in front of a mirror before she pauses to tell the crowded room, "So I have a girlfriend." The group erupts with cheers as the couple bear hug and scream with excitement, too.
*  *  *
"Cats outta the bag 😺," Siwa captioned the video with Wilson tagged. The latter resposted the clip on her own page and wrote, "surprise shawtyyyyy 😽."

Meanwhile, Wilson earlier this year sparked "showmance" rumors with her SYTYCD season 18 castmate Anthony Curley, though nothing seemed to manifest after the season ended.
