OMG, how did BB Frankie end up on a Walking Dead forum?  My distaste of him is so pronounced that I couldn't even watch the clip.  At least he probably couldn't figure out a way to reference his sister during the short amount of screen time he got.

Once again, you have summarized my thoughts eloquently.

Great news: shooting for season 5 has wrapped, so TPTB won't have to work Sonequa's pregnancy into the storyline at all:

You guys just wrapped production on season 5. That is pretty perfect timing a far as maternity leave goes, right?

[Laughs]

Well timed! Well played, Sonequa!

The season shoots from May to November, so it’s pretty fantastic. My husband and I were not planning to have a child. He was a surprise! So I’m really happy it all worked out in general across the board, because it’s not something we did on purpose.

The casting call posted on Craigslist said executive producers Frank Darabont & Gale Anne Hurd. So I immediately dismissed it as a hoax.

Edited to clarify: no way in hell is Darabont attached.

:(  Her reaction makes it so much harder. I agree with her, they were finally having her come into her own story wise, why kill someone with story to tell as opposed to some of the others that have just been doing the same old.

Because that's the way the show works. The very same thing happened to Hershel, and Scott Wilson handled the whole thing quite differently.

So much this. She wasn't my favorite character but she was becoming more interesting to me and I could see potential in her for future storylines (and no, I don't mean 'shipping-related). Seems like a waste, IMO. It felt like the showrunners killed her just because they needed to artificially create drama because it was the MSF.

I don't think the same happened with Hershel, when he died and his entire character was pretty much one note. The  doctor, giving Rick lectures of good. It's not like he was changing and evolving as a character with more to tell. He was one doing the same old.

Exactly she was changing and there was more they could have gone and had more potential as a character being a young teen in this world.

'The Walking Dead' star Norman Reedus on that 'devastating' midseason finale and Daryl's sexual orientation

http://insidetv.ew.com/2014/12/01/the-walking-dead-norman-reedus-coda-midseason-finale/

What can you tell us about what we’re going to see coming up when the show returns?

It’s a very different show, the back eight. It’s still the same show, but it’s very different circumstances. Personalities really come to a boil and a lot of unexpected things are going to happen because it’s in a very different vein. You see us in a very different circumstance and it becomes very desperate. And there’s a false level of security that really messes with everyone.

I don’t know if you watched The Talking Dead last night, but Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman went out of his way to explain that Daryl is straight because of all that hubbub where he mentioned in the letters section of the comics that there had been talk of having the character be gay at one point. Does it amuse and confuse you as to why people are so invested in Daryl Dixon’s sexual orientation?

[Laughs] It’s funny that you brought that up because he caught of a lot of grief for even mentioning anything. Sometimes stories just get blown out of proportion. Whatever they gave me to do, I would happily do it and I don’t think it matters one way or another his sexual orientation. He’s an honest, badass dude and he has a lot of heart to him and it doesn’t really matter. It’s so funny when you meet people and their reaction to this and to that — and believe me they go from all the way far left to all the way far right. I didn’t really address that when it came out because it doesn’t matter. And whatever they give me to do, I would have done. But it’s kind of funny watching him cover his tracks a bit. A lot of times stories do get blown way out of proportion.

I couldn't disagree more about Herschel. His character evolved quite a bit from the head-in-the-sand Apocolypse denier to a man who had lost a lot and was coming to grips with what the new world was. I don't think that because he was old he had less story to give the audience and I think there were a lot of places his character could have still gone.

I think there's as much potential for interesting stories about an old man as about a young teen in this world, and Scott Wilson's portrayal enhanced a layered character nicely.

On-topic, I think it smacks of unprofessionalism to go around in the press expressing sour grapes over your character's death and trash-talking the show you were on and the people who run it. I think some fans are projecting their sadness over the death of the character onto the actress, seeing them both as victims, and I think Kinney is playing up to that, both with all the crying and with the accusations of things being handled poorly behind the scenes. I can imagine this might make future employers think twice before casting her.

You left out the snarky subhed: "The 'Walking Dead' Brain-Dead Move of the Week: Gun Beats Scissors." The story has several animated gifs of the stupidity in "Coda"—not just Beth. (I'm looking at you, Bob Lamson!)

It echoes what many of us said in the episode thread:

Noah is great, don't get us wrong. But Beth just met him! And he got out of Grady once; he can escape again. He even volunteered to go back. He was a tiny price to pay for Beth's freedom, not to mention a chance at reuniting with her sister that she hasn't seen in a season and a half.

But could Beth accept that and move on with her life? No, she could not. She had to stab Dawn with a tiny pair of scissors, causing Dawn's gun to go off and blow Beth's brains out.

Yeah, a good lesson all around: Never stab someone who's pointing a loaded gun at your face.

Edited to add that AMC has apologized for spoiling Beth's death. If you missed the kerfuffle, here's an Entertainment Weekly story about it.

I think she's very young emotionally and I think she must have assumed staying as long as she did (she expected to only last for season 2, I think) meant she wasn't going anywhere. She seemed very sheltered by the cast.

I have seen fans who act like the show was out to get her, which annoys me, because they have done this with everyone. I'd say the most unprofessional treatment went to Laurie Holden, who was clearly rattled by the whole thing, but Laurie seemed to handle it OK publicly, putting on a brave face.

I don't think she's trying to rile up fans to lash out at the show. I think she's genuinely very upset. I just wish people would realize this was just a job and if they want to support Emily, buy her music and go watch her next project. If people want to quit watching the show, more power to them, but acting like Emily was personally attacked is something else entirely.

I don't see an Awards thread. So I'll post here from today's SAG nominations:

Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Comedy or Drama Series (6 nominees)
“24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY” (FOX)
“BOARDWALK EMPIRE” (HBO)
“GAME OF THRONES” (HBO)
“HOMELAND” (Showtime)
“SONS OF ANARCHY” (FX)
“THE WALKING DEAD” (AMC)

That's great news. I think that's their first SAG nomination outside of stunt ensemble. The cast really deserves it. They're the ones who keep this going.

Pete, this year's nomination is for Stunt Ensemble.

The series nominated for casts of a drama series are: Boardwalk Empire, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, Homeland, and House o Cards.

In the twin categories of "Never Let an Actor Pitch a Storyline" and "Things You Can't Unimagine" we have this lovely interview EW did with Andrew Lincoln:

Original site :

http://insidetv.ew.com/2014/12/01/walking-dead-andrew-lincoln-rick-coda-midseason-finale/

Another site that references the interview:

http://www.designntrend.com/articles/32627/20141227/walking-dead-andrew-lincoln-rick-beth-love-triangle-shoot-bob-watch.htm

For those who don't want to read the whole interview, here's the bit that we were thankfully spared seeing come to life on our screens. It's Andrew Lincoln speaking:

I actually pitched an idea, I think in season 3. I said, “I think Beth should have a crush on Rick. And Rick doesn’t have a clue how to deal with it. And also, Carl is really upset about it. And then Hershel gets involved as well.” And everybody ignored me as usual. But I thought it was quite a good pitch.

So basically an awkward triangle between Beth, Rick and Carl. Things could always be worse...

The Walking Dead cast seemed to be genuinely fond of Emily Kinney so maybe it was a case of Andrew Lincoln recognizing that Beth didn't have much of a storyline and trying to bring her into the forefront?  Beth did have a connection with Rick due to her care of Judith so it isn't hard to imagine a crush developing, but I'm reasonably sure Rick Grimes would be able to defuse a young woman's crush without too much angsting over it.  I despise love triangles in general (dramatic, yes, but unnecessary drama IMO) so I'm pleased we avoided that one.

I don't really see this as being pitched as a huge storyline. It was probably something to help fill up time in season 3 (which was incredibly sparse after the first few episodes). I think he likely saw it as something to show Carl growing up and how this would cause a conflict with Rick. Given how young and sheltered Beth was in season 3, it also would have made sense for her.

He's closer to Chandler Riggs than EK; he might have been trying to get CR a storyline that didn't involve being a little Son of Sam.

I feel SO bad for Coral. I mean, he's a teenage boy, the last female even remotely close to his age just got the back of her head blown out, and the loss of the internet means he's also lost access to 95% of this society's available porn.  What's left for the poor kid to get off to?  Walking corpses with clothing malfunctions?  Yeek.

Yes, and the show ignores this, his father ignores this...I know it's the ZA but obviously there's been downtime for other people to do ummmm, non-essential activities.

Carl showed some flirty with Beth way back at the prison. Which is normal for his age. I hope TPTB realize the kid is about 5'10" already and somebody needs to

address this. I think it could be a brief but very affecting scene of Carl opening up to somebody--probably not his Dad sigh--wondering if he'll ever have somebody to love him, if he'll just be alone someday, for the rest of his life. Because that would be on the minds of survivors who have made it out of childhood into adolescence, starting to realize that beyond food water shelter they may not hope of any emotional/physical comfort bond that would have been theirs in the old world. Not to mention very powerful hormone hollering, and hormones in boys that age wouldn't care if it was nuclear war---it's got to be hitting and Rick never says anything to him.

BTW---Chandler Riggs reportedly got his driver's license IRL; will he be seen learning to drive in the show? It's not as if lots of kids 13 or 14 don't know how to drive right now (at least where I live).

They could address it. After coming back from a supply run, Michonne hands Carl a stack of books but this time they are not comics books. All we need Carl to say is "did you find lotion?"

Given that Chandler is still just 15 I can't imagine the show bringing it up for a few more years, at least. Yes, if this were real life it would be mentioned, and so on, but it's not real life, and I would imagine that "family" hate groups would have plenty to say to cause a backlash.

Speaking of Chandler, apparently he answered some fan questions, including about Beth's death and his reaction (his reaction was, essentially, saying that's just how the show goes, and he hadn't worked with Beth very much since season 3).

Are nanny-type groups that monitor for objectionable content really still watching a show that features rotting animated corpses, cannibals, pastors abandoning their congregations, etc. looking for new things to be offended by?

The new TWD promo is out.

I posted it on the spoiler thread although I don't think it is; I'm just erring on the side of caution.

I think the reason it is as it is would be because they've realized how much the viewers are picking apart the scenes.

The new one is described as "artsy" and the EW article I posted because the writer "can't get enough" of watching it.

I was...nonplussed. How's that for a reaction?

I just saw the trailer, too.  I'm always excited to see a new trailer, but that one seemed almost a parody.  Liked seeing everyone - even Tyreese apparently - in fighting mode.  Looks like Rick has gone full blown Grizzly Adams.  I don't think the hot's going to work for me with that much facial hair.

Yeah, I saw that promo on youtube. I avoid spoilers, but official promos are OK under my invented rules.

If that promo is a spoiler, apparently the backhalf of the season will revolve around them look tense and firing shots in the woods. Huge plotpoints.

The ComicCon trailer from this summer had a lot of info in it, but I thin they had to for ComicCon. They couldn't have gotten away with such an "atmospheric" promo for the ComicCon audience.

Everyone is in fighting mode...Tyreese is running---hopefully toward the action.

I'd rather see that much facial hair than AL clean-shaven.

I will note one interesting, curious point---if you'd like to address a possible explanation for this, we could go to the Spoilers thread----

We see "everyone" but we do not see Father Gabriel, or Carl, or Judith. I hope the three of them don't spend the rest of the ZA hiding in that stupid church.

I love my Tyreese, so I'm going to assume he's running toward the action.   He looks more pissed than scared.

Lord have mercy! My only thought is that Rick would never leave his kids behind with only Father Gabriel as protection. Plus, Eugene is with Rick's gang. While he's debatably better than FPP (he helped save Tara once) I would think he'd be a good one to leave behind.

I took the trailer to not actually be footage from the show. I don't see a scenario where they would be wasting that many bullets (or even have that many) and yet remain so calm.

It's very similar to the promo they kept showing through the first half (boobie Maggie, Rick/Daryl side by side, creeping around a building).
