If Dena was trying to undo the mess she made with Hope why not just say Andre or Stefano drugged her or brainwashed her or something and she wasn't in her right mind when she murdered Stefano? There was no need to do all of this. If JM hadn't died what was Dena's plan?

Drew Donovan was a featured character with Eve 1.0, Calliope Jones, and Stefano back in the late 1980s.  He was mostly a bad seed.

This Wikipedia is not totally accurate about Drew.  The following is an accurate depiction of Drew Donovan.

 

Drew was Shane's twin, but very much the younger brother. He acted rather silly and seemed to be a bit of a screw-up, always in Shane's shadow when they were growing up. After Eton, Drew joined the ISA while Shane went to university and then joined. Drew resented that Shane was always better than him, so at some point he secretly went to work for Stefano.

In 1988, Drew appeared at Donovan Manor during Shane and Kim's honeymoon following their vowel renewal. Shane was upset that Drew had come out of some type of hiding (which was why he had never been mentioned before), but he charmed Kim and she invited him to return to Salem. He briefly lived with Shane and Kim, and moved with them to their new house, where he had a basement photography studio and equipment he could use to stay in contact with Stefano using the codename 'Iago." While in Salem, he kidnapped Kayla and Benjy (who nobody at the time knew was Stefano's son), nearly killed Steve in a rigged magic show, and later kidnapped Carrie and Benjy and took them to Stefano's island. During this entire time, Shane knew Stefano was alive, but was forced by the ISA to keep it secret. When Shane and the ISA set up a deal with Victor to capture Stefano, Drew tricked Kim into going to the island where she also was taken captive.

Victor, btw, knew that "Iago" was Shane's brother and, as part of his ISA deal, got Shane to agree that "Iago" would work for him. When Shane realized that it was Drew, he called off the deal with Victor, who promptly told Stefano about Shane's and Steve's plans. Shane managed to defeat Drew and took his place, but that only lasted a short while, so he and Steve also became Stefano's prisoners.
 

While captive, Stefano forced Shane to tell the other prisoners about a secret he had been keeping. After Roman "died" on the island, Shane and the ISA learned that he was alive and was Stefano's prisoner. Drew also appeared to be a prisoner, though he was working with Stefano alongside John (who everyone thought was Roman at the time). Shane revealed that he had a chance to rescue Roman, but freed Drew instead. At some point, it also was revealed that Drew had killed Benjy's mother, something that John thought he had done.  Shane not telling the Brady family that he knew that Roman was alive caused angst between him and the Brady family. I always thought that it was out of character.  Shane was an honest man and it complimented Kim's penchant for lying.  I think the writers' strike at the time altered the writers story about Shane/Drew. 

Eventually, the prisoners escaped. Drew was ordered to kill Shane and Kim. He caught them, held them at gunpoint, and revealed that he joined Stefano to escape from Shane's shadow. At the last minute, he saved them and killed another of Stefano's henchmen, but Drew was also shot. Shane and Kim got him off the island and to a doctor (and eventually to Salem), where he was in a coma and then mysteriously disappeared from the hospital. The last we heard of him, he called Kim's radio show and indicated that he intended to reform and regretted his actions.

Stefano Spoilers

 

Sonny and Austin show up at the Masquerade (no John, though) and Doc is briefly kidnapped during a midnight blackout. Stefano reveals himself to her and the gang gives chase and arrests him. He is briefly in jail but then vanishes again. His brief detainment is proof of Hope's innocence.

 

...so we do see Joe again, on Feb 9th. That will be nice, and this doesn't sound like the worst wrap-up (depending on how much screentime we get of Joe). No appearances by John kinda stinks and there's still no explanation for who Hope actually killed...but this sounds decent.

It invalidates all his spectral appearances from 2016 but...

I admit, I haven't watched closely and missed some eps.  Is the story that Hope shot dead a Stefano look alike?

Because I assumed that Stefano was shot by hope with those fake blood thingies, and then she and Rafe got rid of his body, and afterward he got up and left and had someone replace his live body with another dead one.  Thus making Hope only an attempted murderer rather than murderer.

That could be what happened but we don't know yet. The body in the grave they never bothered to show us is apparently another guy.

I don't especially care if the explanation works - I'd rather see Joe have some good emotional farewell lines than waste his final scenes being the exposition fairy.

The one big thing I can't buy about this is the idea that Joe/Stefano can walk. He couldn't for several months, it seemed. Him trying to snatch Doc makes me roll my eyes. Kinda classless.

...that's it? Deimos is running around town putting hits on people, he pulled a gun on Ari's mother and locked her in a closet and all Victor can do is tell him to clean up his mess? I shouldn't be surprised since he aparently got over what Deimos did to Bo and Maggie pretty quickly.

I would have much rather seen Victor leave town after being exposed as Tate's kidnapper than bow to Almighty Deimos.

What in the hell are they going to do to explain Caroline's absence at the Stayla wedding? It's glaring at this point that she's been AWOL for Theresa's wedding, the Orpheus seige at HER Pub, Theresa's meltdown, Xmas...and now this.

I keep seeing spoilers that Gabi and Eli are going to hook up.  Considering how long Valerie has been gone from the show, I don't like this, because ideally, he's too old for her.  Though they'll probably fudge that along the way.

The next question will be whether Gabi and Chad had sex, and will she be pregnant, and will we have a WTD story?

I like VI a lot but none of the many, many writers on DOOL ever knew what to do with his character.   A good murder mystery might just be what this show needs.  Of course good is the operative word.  I've not even bothered to try to unravel the Stefano-is-actually-alive mess.  It's just not worth it.
