It's weird, because when I watch reruns of Friends, I always think they look like real grownups, more grown-up than me, but of course they were younger then than I am now. It is frightening to think that, therefore, I must look horribly ravaged by time myself now. Hopefully not as bad as Matthew Perry, but still.

I really enjoyed it, but I hope it wasn't our series finale! I've really been enjoying the show going a little bit back to its roots of Jules figuring out how to be older, and I think the grandparent angle is great for that.

Trav and Laurie's fight in this episode was the most realistic they've been as a couple so far. I like the poetic symmetry of their story and Bobby/Jules' wrt the unplanned pregnancy. How did Laurie get pregnant though? Wasn't she on birth control that made her only get her "yeariod" once a year?

Just watched the finale last night and I teared up a bit b/c you can tell in that last scene that they were saying goodbye (in case it is not renewed).  I hope they renew this show.

I hope it comes back but if it doesn't, that was a nice just-in-case ending.  And I kind of love that at least one TV show doesn't have the couple break up because they want different things.  Be creative, figure it out!

I really like this absurd little show so I am glad they got one season AND I am glad that it will be its last season.  So many shows linger just too long.  I would rather have a show go out while it is still good, than become less and less enjoyable.  Knowing that this is the last season gives them time to wrap up all the storylines and give closure to the characters.

More and more of my favorite shows are going for the shorter runs (SOA, Justified, Mad Men) and condensed 13 episode seasons and I am loving it :)

I really really like this show -- it is one of the true pleasure of my TV viewing.

But I really can't stand the California beaches pretending to be Southwest Florida.

Just so everyone knows -- SWFla has no mountains -- no hills even. There are no surfable waves -- the Gulf just sort of rolls in with swells of less than a foot most of the time. The water is way too warm for wetsuits, and the beaches aren't wide or densely packed -- you can't ride ATVs or bikes on them very easily.  There are also lots of mosquitos and no-see-ums on the beach.

That's all. :)

Entire Series now streaming - Thank you Hulu! :-)

(And I was just about to bite the bullet and buy it!)

Ditto! I have the first three seasons on DVD, had just finished them and was considering buying the others on Amazon digital, so this was perfect timing. This will be my third time watching the whole series.

I've been doing a slow rewatch and am on Season 3. I feel like this show had some great moments, but like many could not sustain it much. Seasons 1 - 3.5 ish are great. Three things ruined this show for me:

-Grayson having a daughter

-Laurie and Bobbie hooking up

-Jules dad having Alzheimers

I'm partway season 3 and it's great to see the Scrubs meta, but then there is the clang of the baby, and the anvil clang of Laurie and Travis.

I really disliked Season 4 and 5, so I'm not sure how far I'll get with the rewatch before bailing.

Imaginary hat...

The funniest response to this was Grayson's "imaginary clown nose merp merp " but Ellie couldn't figure out why people didn't know what she was referring to. I am one of those people, what response was she looking for?

Doffing your hat to someone is an old fashioned show of respect. So when she says ‘imaginary hat’ and makes the action of tipping the hat, it’s a congratulatory sign-like an old fashioned version of a fist bump

Just watched 4.10. This is where this show starts to suck.

Lori angry bc Travis is dating other women? The whole Lori and Trav storyline sucks from start to finish. I also dont buy Lori being that into Trav. His looks and personality- he's not that great. IRL I would tell him to get his own life and stop hanging out with his parents.

10 minute placement story for Target that had no point and was completely over the top.

Lori and Andy beating each other up? Unrealistic and dumb.

Not sure how far I will get with the rewatch. I remember the end of this show being such a drag. This is the first ep that just seemed out and out bad.

I've been watching on Prime, and I agree.  For some reason, I thought when the show began, Lori was supposed to be in her late 20s and Travis is 18.  I can't really buy her being interested in a relationship with a college student, much less one that would come with a huge amount of baggage and who would not go away if they broke up.

Yeah I think there is supposed to be an age difference between her and Trav. I liked Lori with the army guy. I don't know what the writers were thinking.

I did finish that rewatch, there were still some good eps, just not as good as before.

I just finished season 2, episode 17 (Jules' Pledge of Allegiance gaffe—Richard Stans—and Bobby "Wrong Balls" Cobb) and during the end credits, there are stills of the cast from the episode but the closed captioning is Bobby doing some kind of commercial for a sub shop, maybe? I think he got the endorsement because of the "Wrong Balls" fame. But why the incongruity? I'm on my second rewatch and I don't remember this from before. I thought the stills were a joke at first because it just looked like other TV shows.

So I have been rewatching the show lately since it is on Disney plus in Canada now and it's nice to throw on if I don't feel like watching a movie or something. It's nice to see that it still holds up. It's a nice reminder that it was my favourite show at one time (the ABC seasons at least).

There are just a few things that have never been clear to me. How long is it supposed to have been between Jules and Bobby's divorce and the pilot. Since it seems to be well over, but in the early episodes it seems like Andy and Bobby are still not allowed to be friends.

Also the whole Bobby/Jules/Travis timeline seems kind of off. She says she got pregnant at 19, and is 40 in the pilot. But Trav is still in high school. So how does that work unless he is a 20 year old high school student?

I'm watching the beginning of the show too.  Ellie has a problem with Andy being friends with Bobby.  Jules says she has no problem with it.

Yea I know. I just found it odd that their break up was fresh enough where Andy and Bobby were just starting to hang out together. But it is also enough time has passed where it is completely over, Bobby has moved out and is getting alimony and Jules is dating. Although I watched the Thanksgiving episode from season 1 last night and Ellie said it was the previous thanksgiving that Jules and Bobby decided to separate. So I guess if she knew the marriage was dead long before that and there was no court battle over the divorce then I guess 10 months or so makes sense.

It is one of my comfort shows, but they've never figured out any of the timelines in the show.

Jules is too old to have a kid as young as Travis. If she's 41 and Travis is 18, that means she had him at 22/23. Which means she didn't have to drop out of college to have him.  They should have just gone ahead and had him be 22 or 23 himself, but then they would have missed out on his college stuff. Maybe an older sibling that never showed up. Or died. Or something.

Jules and Bobby should have been broken up for at least a decade if not longer -- there's not nearly enough anger/hostility between them for the divorce to be as recent as it's shown. And it doesn't explain how Jules had money to buy the house with Bobby. But if she's on her own for a decade, and has made the name for herself and has been paying Bobby support -- that works much better.

Laurie and Travis should never have been a thing at all beyond him just lusting after her as a fantasy.

But my biggest complaint for a show that I adore is that it's pretending to be in southwest Florida, and there's nothing southwest Florida about any of the scenes. I assume the place is supposed to be Sanibel -- nice, small beach community on the Gulf. You don't surf the Gulf -- it has waves that max out most of the time around a two feet or so.  The Gulf doesn't have wide beaches. You don't wear wetsuits in the Gulf. It was all set up in California -- I even enjoyed them making fun of California -- but a lot of the things they showed just aren't real things about southwest Florida.

All that said, when I need something to watch to make me smile, I go back to Two Gunslingers.

It really seemed like they wanted to have Jules be 40 in season 1, Trav still be in high school and Jules having to look back and realize that getting pregnant at 19 meant she missed out of of the fun of her 20's. But apparently TV writers aren't able to do math. It seems like eliminating trav being in high school could have fixed that (just make him older because who cares). Or make it so that Jules and Bobby got married at 19 because they were dumb (or because of a pregnancy scare) and then her parents threw her out because of it. And living on your own at that age and being married meant missing out on a lot.

I can see the house thing, I mean it's tv so of course the house will be giant. And maybe she built up her real estate career while Bobby was off playing golf and she made a bunch of money.

Travis and Laurie was stupid though. Especially since she was previously with Greyson. And especially because if a major point of the show was that having a kid young meant (with a dummy) meant that Jules missed out on her 20's. And now Travis is doing the same thing.
