LuckyBitch April 26, 2014 Share April 26, 2014 Although I don't even watch this show, I enjoy reading about it at TWoP and now here at Previoulsy.TV. So, after reading about Michael Symon's Cauliflower Sausage Casserole, I decided to try the recipe. After reading the comments where they pointed out some discrepancies between the online recipe and what Michael actually did on the show, I watched the video clip to see for myself and took note of the correct steps. I mostly followed his recipe, but substituted chicken Italian sausage. I'm not usually a casserole person, but this sounded good because I love cauliflower and chicken Italian sausage, so I decided to give it a try. Although most people seem to like this recipe, we weren't crazy about it. It wasn't terrible, but just okay. I guess it's just not my style of cooking. Normally, I would grill the chicken sausage and roast the cauliflower with some garlic and a spritz of olive oil. I think using these two ingredients that way is so much easier and tastes a LOT better than this particular recipe. The cauliflower seemed to just get lost in the tomatoes, which isn't a good thing if you actually like cauliflower. Roasting it in the oven produces delicious, caramelized cauliflower florets that I prefer much more to a dish like this. 1 Link to comment
LuckyBitch May 5, 2014 Share May 5, 2014 (edited) Chattygal, I thought that recipe sounded good too when I first read about it at TWoP and then checked The Chew's website and watched the video of Michael preparing it. I was sure it was going to be a dish that I liked but it was kind of underwhelming. Now that you mention possibly trying the recipe without the tomatoes, I think that's a good idea because I think my biggest problem with it was that the cauliflower and sausage seemed to get lost in the tomatoes. Then again, the tomatoes are being used to tie all the ingredients together in a casserole. Without them, you would just have the cooked sausage meat and cauliflower. Again, I would rather just roast the cauliflower in the oven and cook the sausage links on a grill pan or the barbecue. If you follow his recipe and eliminate the tomatoes I think you would have to substitute something else in their place. Although, I Googled around while in the middle of typing this post and I saw a similar recipe on Epicurious and someone said in a review that they omitted the tomatoes and it was delicious. So, I guess it's worth a try. I might have to think about this some more and experiment a bit. Please let me know if you try the recipe, or a variation of it! imjagain May 30, 2014 Share May 30, 2014 I really want a piece of that apple pie Carla made today. I'm not one of those people that need bacon in everything but lord that pie had me drooling! 1 Link to comment
Actionmage November 16, 2015 Share November 16, 2015 Both Mario and Michael's turkeys sounded delicious! I sort of want to try that Old Fashioned turkey, but I'm not hosting this year, so I'm not sure when i'd get a chance to try it. It also seems pretty simple as well. Link to comment

biakbiak December 26, 2015 Share December 26, 2015 I made the caramel cake for Christmas ! I am not into super sweet desserts so it wasn't my favorite, i think my three bites gave me diabetes, but I could tell it was very good if you like sweets. Everyone else loved it. 1 Link to comment
jcbrown December 29, 2015 Share December 29, 2015 I made the cheese grits souffle with tomato gravy tonight. I love cheese grits and I love souffle but I thought this was not the best of either genre. Not bad, just not my favorite. Link to comment
abc123 January 5, 2016 Share January 5, 2016 I have made several recipes recently and over time and thought I would share the results. Nearly everything was amazing or very successful/flavorful. Older Recipes - Michael's Braised Turkey Thighs with Kale - Seriously awesome...I truly understand when they say you taste a depth of flavor between the jalepeno and the lemon zest. Yum. Carla's Buffalo Chicken Burgers and Blue Cheese Slaw (from her book, but I'm sure she's done similar versions on the show) - I've made this several times for my family and it's very flavorful. A solid recipe. Recent - Clinton's Turkey Wonton Soup - I have never even made stock before, but I did the crockpot trick and made the wontons. It was extremely labor intensive to fold all those wontons. If you had a bunch of older kids/adults around post T'giving who could all fold a few it would be fun to make as a family. I would just make a ton and freeze. The actual wontons were delicious, and I put some in the freezer and ate later that week and they held up very well. I felt very healthy eating this. Clinton's Stuffed Mushroom Dip - Made as an appetizer for NYE and could have made a meal out of it. Very rich, but damn delicious. I did not feel very healthy eating this - haha. 1 Link to comment
jcbrown May 30, 2016 Share May 30, 2016 I made the (Key) lime pudding parfaits tonight from Carla's birthday episode. I even forgot to top it with coconut (bought it, too, oh well). Yowza, is that good. I could not find Key limes or juice at two stores so I used Persian limes and upped the amount a bit from the recipe. Delicious! Link to comment
jcbrown November 29, 2017 Share November 29, 2017 Hmm, me again. I watched an episode recently where Carla was making a dip to be served with celery. To prep the celery, she peeled the "strings" off of it. I have never heard of this. Has anyone ever done it? Link to comment

Once you get near the heart, you don't need to do it as it's all tender. 1 Link to comment

It's the Chutney Cheese Ball, it always gets mentioned around holidays or party episodes and Clinton says it's one of his all time favorite things. I wonder if they are not doung a gift exchange this year because of the Mario situation. They typically tease it for a few shows. 1 Link to comment
BeachyWave December 21, 2017 Share December 21, 2017 Biak is correct — and it’s revolting. A recipe from a beloved childhood friend with whom he often travels, so maybe it has sentimental value for Clinty Claus...I eventually threw out the remains. Link to comment

The recipe is from his other close frend who he met when they were working on the shopping channel, her husband is on every year around this time because he hosts ESPN college football coverage and this year she joined him so he doesnt even have choldhood nostalgia to blame. BeachyWave December 21, 2017 Share December 21, 2017 (edited) It involves crafty slathering of mango chutney and coconut all over cream cheese and sour cream mushed up with currants, walnuts, and scallions (goat cheese might be an improvement). But the chutney didn't coat the, er, ball, that well, and then the coconut flakes didn't stick uniformly. The result looked like a psoriasis-crusted albino bull testicle that had started to rot in patches of mold. Now I wish I'd photographed the abomination; Clinty Claus, I love you to bits, but I'm heaving just thinkin' 'bout it. Going to happy hour now to try and forget. Carla's groundnut stew, the everything bagels, several pastas, Michael's pork parmesan--there are a bunch! Did you do the everything bagels that take two days, @jcbrown? I've been wondering if they are worth the time. A couple of years ago I made Daphne's Christmas Kale Salad for Christmas Eve dinner, and it was a big hit among my non-kale eating family. My oldest son even proclaimed that it tasted "like Christmas", and so now I have to make it every year. Link to comment

I really liked them. The texture was a bit different than the really super-dense bagels you often get but I've been in a phase with making pretzels and since the technique is similar, they fit right into my current mania. I thought they were fun and tasty. I may have to look into the kale salad. We are pretty anti-kale here (I was traumatized by having to put it around crocks in restaurant salad bars--take it off at the end of the night, rinse it off, store it in a garbage bag, re-use the next day, shudder) but it might be worth a shot. Thanks for the info. I may have to give them a try, as fresh everything bagels are my favorites, and everyone else's apparently, as they are sold out if I don't get to the bagel store early enough. That kale sounds truly gross. I don't blame you for being turned off it. 1 Link to comment

I just checked my notes to see what I changed in the recipe. I added between 2 teaspoons and 1 tablespoon of diastatic malt powder to the dough. I also added a tablespoon of salt and 2 tablespoons of baking soda to the boiling water. My notes also say "at least" next to the direction to bake 18 minutes, and that was with my convection oven, so watch the time and add. Not that you asked, but I thought you might want the info. 3 Link to comment
jcbrown January 2, 2018 Share January 2, 2018 (edited) Me again, huh? Serious Eats had a piece disproving that you should salt your pasta water to be the level of the sea, for anyone interested. Yes, it should have more salt than many people use; no, it should not have THAT much salt. http://www.seriouseats.com/2014/05/how-salty-should-pasta-water-be.html Edited January 2, 2018 by jcbrown trying to get the link to show up correctly 1 Link to comment

abc123 February 14, 2018 Share February 14, 2018 I made Michael's Beef and Root Vegetable Stew over the weekend and it was okay. It was pretty much like a standard stew, but nothing amazing. I had never cooked with celery root before, and I guess maybe that was part of the problem. I like regular celery okay, but the celery root flavor was very, very strong and I just wasn't a huge fan of that flavor. Link to comment
abc123 March 18, 2018 Share March 18, 2018 http://abc.go.com/shows/the-chew/recipes/oven-braised-pork-chops-with-apples-onions-and-dried-cherries-lidia-bastianich This was a winner. I made it with mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach. I had 8 smaller chops so I made about 1 1/2 portions of the sauce. I baked it about 13 minutes I instead of 20 since my chops were a bit thinner - and I could have cooked less, or I really should have probably sautéed a bit less to start. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have changed a thing. The flavors were great. 1 Link to comment

jcbrown June 22, 2018 Share June 22, 2018 I made Carla's smashed carrot salad with date and grilled citrus dressing last night. The carrots were just okay but the dressing was amazing! I will be trying that out on different things. Link to comment
Nessie June 30, 2018 Share June 30, 2018 I'm not sure where to put this, but I went to the website just now to look at a couple of recipes, and it's black. I mean, the recipes are all there (if you know where to look, because of course they're not linked from the episode page - whoever updates the page has been doing a half-assed job for months!) but the color scheme has changed from white to black. In memoriam, perhaps? Link to comment
