S02.E02: Somewhere Out There

I enjoyed this episode. Snyder noticed Wills son in the prison. Wills wife is still a bad parent. She can't expect her sister to bail her out. Her sister has joined the Alien cult. Will  wiped out Solomons gang. I like how the new proxy doesn't trust wills boss. The show is fascinating on many levels. The aliens are indoctrinating the kids quickly.I think the producers have watched V from the 80's. I wonder if there will be a fifth column led by Snyder who can help the resistance.

Jennifer is a very interesting character. I wonder how being zapped by the aliens will affect her.

It is very interesting that the aliens were around in the 60s on the moon

So the aliens found earth because these scientists sent a response? I couldn't believe that they finally found Charlie. Finally some plot movement. I will keep watching. I loved Will killing the hell out of those guys. Boy, did they have it coming.

I think Katie should have Broussaud capture Jennifer and drug her so she tells them all the alien secrets that she knows.

At least, Bram used his brain and saved himself from the factory. Will Synder help him? This was a demotion for him, right? So maybe he won't help Bram.

I am not sure what to think about Maddie and her alien encounter. Was it like some kind of opiod hit? She was sure smiling like crazy after.

I think the show is much more entertaining than last season. Will's wife, who I think of as Lori from The walking dead as an annoying. Why did she get all bug eyed , while Jennifer was trying to help her. She wants Jennifer new boyfriend to risk his job with the occupation to help her get her son back. We haven't seen Broussard yet, so I wonder what he is up to. It looks like the aliens want to breed a new race of slaves in the Green Zone. The rest of humanity will be forced to work for them in slave camps

I agree. I have enjoyed these two episodes lots more than the first few that I watched last season.  I don't know why so many shows take so long to move their plots along, especially when there is so much else we can be watching. If the show had moved this quickly last season, I would have stuck around longer. I just hope that they keep up the pace.

I have no problem with Katie. I admire her willingness to fight. Yes, it is risky and she has lost a lot, but better than being a sex worker like her sister-in-law. Although I admire Maddie too. She is doing what she has to to keep her son alive, but having to fake orgasms and constantly worry about Nolan replacing her with a younger model like he did with Charlotte seems like a worse life to me.

I forgot to mention earlier that I like Devon, Charlie's partner. Too bad she wasn't around last season also. I have no clue how long she will be around, but Devon's pragmatism mixed with caring about Will and his family makes her an interesting character. I doubt she would sell them out, but if it came down to her survival vs. Will and his family, what choice would she make?

Also, I have always liked the actress who plays Bram's new crush so I hope that she gets a major role.

ETA: I just remembered the major role I saw the actress in, Max in Black Sails. Her name is Jessica Parker Kennedy.

I liked Maddie calling Katie on her shit. I like Katie for the most part but she is such a princess who is not used to facing the consequences of her actions she needed to hear that. For me the difference between Katie and Lori is that Lori got more selfish as the show went on but Katie actually seems to be growing a bit. I just hope she doesn't do anything stupid about Bram.

Will story is interesting so far seeing how another block has fallen apart. Although the guy using kids as pickpockets calling himself "Solomon" as in Solomon Fagin (The actual historical figure Dickens based Fagin on was named Solomon) is the usual lack of subtle I expect form this show.

I thought that looked like her!  I've been watching the Black Sails marathon so she came to mind when the character was on screen.

I'm confused by the Greatest Day ceremony and can't wait to see questions answered.  I don't know if anyone remembers (or watched) Stephen Speilberg's mini series Taken (with Dakota Fanning - it was awesome), but the Greatest Day scene reminded me of scenes (from Taken) of the making of human/alien hybrids from that series http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0289830/combined

Which tracks with my impression that she is no longer just Maddie anymore.

Did they send a response? It seemed to me they were just debriefing and analyzing what they heard (and saw). I enjoyed it because there has been some discussion that there was were minutes missing from the recordings on one of the Apollo flights. I've seen a few takes on what that might mean - most of them went the "found proof of aliens" on the dark side of the moon route. This seemed to me the same thing - and it's just a flashback to show when the aliens started being interested in earth.

Did I miss something? Or is it an assumption that she's faking? Don't have to love or even like to enjoy.

I loved that moment. Harsh, but true.

I do like that they're getting into more backstory. I didn't mind that they didn't last season, I don't mind a long winded story as long as it ends up somewhere. But now that they're giving us more this season, it is making it more interesting and enjoyable.

I will watch Josh Holloway in pretty much anything, though even he couldn't keep me watching Lost. That's my sum total reason for watching this show. I don't even know who the characters are or have any investment in them except for him. Don't care if they all die really.

He should be on screen much more than the Lori Grimes character. She's a bad actress in my opinion.

I have mixed feelings the show is more entertaining, yet I am more annoyed by the motivation of the  alien conspiracy. As with most alien invasions it comes down to what do they care and why go through the motions of lording over humans except for kicks, yet we don't get to see them enjoying themselves like the human Nazis or gaining anything just losing drones and burning spaceship fuel to get here.

They seemed to operate under some kind of Star Trek like Prime Directive until humanity went to the moon and then played the long game putting a generation of secret collaborators in place before dropping walls around the cities. I think V did it better with the humans openly in awe of "aliens, (let that sink in) aliens" to quote General Talbot on Agents of SHIELD, actually came to earth and wanted to deal with us on what we thought were even Star Fleet like terms

I think that they have to show the aliens soon. At least on V , the aliens wanted water and food. It looks like the aliens are trying to indoctrinate the young humans.

So Nolan says he'll do what he can to help Bram, and Maddie tells Katie he did so (i.e. got him into the labor camp).  But we see Bram apparently saving himself, realizing that they were keeping the 'hard workers' and getting rid of the intellectuals, so he claims to be older and a construction worker to be valuable, and they keep them.  Now the guard did appear to be unsure/making up his mind, did he 'recognize' Bram (told to look out for a kid) and got the word to keep him, especially with Bram "helping" with his answers, or was that all just coincidence that Nolan is taking credit for?

And Katie, honey, don't be rude to the guy you're asking to save your son for a crime he committed.  He doesn't really give a shit, so you best be nice.

I hope we get more info on what this 'greatest day' is since that ceremony and Maddie's 'experience' made no sense.

I love that Snyder got reassigned to the labor camp and recognized Bram.  You know something will happen between the two.

I was a bit surprised that Will was able to take out that whole gang.  Yeah, he probably has more firearm experience, but it was still surprising.  I also thought the kids would go with them.  Where else are they going to go?  Who else will 'protect' them?  You'd think they'd go with the one that has a relationship with one of their 'friends' and obviously showed enough strength/power to take out their former protector/boss.

Will Devon go with Will? I hope so.  How will she get through the wall?  Does the transit pass cover everyone in a party/vehicle?

How much will Jennifer push Katie?  obviously, the 'search' of her house was a warning.

My theory, after watching Maddie's "Great Day" ceremony is that what they want is to transfer their consciousness into our bodies, perhaps in some symbiotic union. Therefore some kind of willingness/acceptance is necessary (hence the indoctrination of the children and apparently some adults). It ties in, to some extant, the prohibition against things like insulin for diabetics, who they view as weak and unnecessary.

I think he's just taking credit for it. I don't think he had any intention of helping, he laid his groundwork for failure pretty well.

On a far lighter, and trivial note, did anyone else find it amusing that the episode title is "Somewhere Out There," Fieval's song from An American Tail, about a mouse who gets separated from his family?

How do they not have enough food but the bar is fully stocked?

IIRC,  Katie's bar wasn't allowed to reopen until Will took the job with the collaborators. It was one of the perks/carrots, I believe.

I assume she kept a stocked bar prior to the wall coming down. She did use her bar stock for black market bartering, but that wouldn't have depleted a fully stocked bar too greatly in the interim. Food, on the other hand, relies on farms outside of the LA area, and transportation to those areas has been sharply curtailed by the walls. So their food supplies would be limited.

That's how I explain it, anyway.

It was very weird to hear her speak without her island accent.
