Please note this airs on a Tuesday instead of Wednesday. There is another new episode the following night.

Quote

Severide is brought into the District for questioning after his car is found to have caused a deadly crash. As the investigation gets underway, the team works to uncover a group of car-jackers who may be the key to Severide's innocence. Meanwhile, Voight pairs Burgess with Olinsky, who has a hard time feigning his excitement about this new partnership, and Lindsay considers meeting her estranged father who is now out of prison.

Olinsky needs to be slapped. He was so disrespectful to Kim calling her a badge bunny, I'm sure be wouldn't dare disrespect Erin like that. I know he tried to be nasty when Kevin first got to intelligence, which got shot down quickly. As for Erin and Jay, I know they're in love and all, but they took that make out session too far. Speaking of Erin, why do I have the feeling that she has been in her father's presence for quite some time.

If I recall correctly Olinksky got pretty aggressive with Erin that time his daughter Lexie was witness to a nurder and Erin had to question her. He was incredibly rude to her. Olinksky has a dark side and isn't afraid to slate anyone when he's pissed off. I always thought that's why him and Voight have such respect for each other.

Sadly, Burgess has no one to blame but herself for being labeled a 'Badge Bunny'...although Al probably could have been a little less harsh. I love Burgess but she made stupid decisions last year and they always were going to come back to bite her, although at times she seems kind of oblivious to anyone else's feelings. She was a train wreck last year and was warned about having a reputation following her if she transferred because of Ruzek so thought 'you're right, you know what I'll stay and jump into bed with my partner instead. That'll show 'em.'

I did not mind Olinsky being harsh with Burgess - anything that keeps her away from yet another stupid romantic workplace drama is fine by me. If Olinsky being an ass is what it takes to finally give her some much needed professionalism and character development I'm fine with that (though I'm not over-optimistic).

Oh, and as usual Mouch and Platt ruled.

I had dropped Chicago Fire last year - glad I got some Severide here. Loved his easy rapport with Lindsey in the last scene. He's such an interesting character. Taylor Kinney can bring both aspects of Severide to the table: the womanizer and the guy who can actually be friends with a woman. That's pretty rare but alas not enough to bring me back to the Gabby-show. I'm also glad how they handled Jay dealing with the situation, struggling but ultimately behaving like a mature adult and not a soap opera lover.

It's a testament to how unmemorable Roman was that I was scratching my head over how Burgess could be considered a "badge bunny" after only dating one cop.

Kim kind of has acted like a badge bunny, and I say that as someone who usually likes her.  But that quality hasn't been a good look for her.  Regarding the "make out session", I thought they were using it as cover to be in the car near the target car without attracting attention.  In other words, I thought they were using it as cover, not actually making out.

I think it started out as a cover, then it progressed into them making out for real, is what it seemed like to me. Kim was wrong for sleeping with two co-workers, the comment came across as him being condescending.

So I watched this again last night since it was the re-run, and yeah... Burgess.  She doesn't get a warrant, then she doesn't know what warrant she needs, and the whole time is some sort of weird combo of perky/determined/annoying.  I get that she's excited to start her new job, but the abnormal perkiness wasn't needed.  She also seemed to be on a bit of a power trip?  But a power trip with who, she's the lowest on the totem pole now in Intelligence.  Was she supposed to come across as nervous, instead?  Because that's not what I got.

As for the make-out session; that was definitely a cover.  They had just been talking about a serious topic (Erin's dad) that wasn't going to immediately lead to romance, but they had to do something as soon as the suspect's car's headlights were on them.  They were in the direct line of sight.  They were also barely making out, they were talking the whole time on the radio, and Erin was getting her gun ready.  I didn't see that "make-out" session as going too far at all.  I also liked that they didn't make Jay out to be the jealous boyfriend, but that he was mature about Severide.

I also wasn't offended by Al's comments to Burgess.  She is getting a reputation as a Badge Bunny.  She had to testify on the stand that she was sleeping with Roman, and everyone knows she was engaged to Ruzek.  That's two in two years?  Erin has only been in one relationship with a colleague, and never flaunted it unless it was convenient to use as a cover (the casino and now this episode).  Burgess also needs to learn to be a detective and I wasn't upset that Al was trying to show her the ropes, either.  Someone needs to; she hasn't always shown she can make the best decisions.

And this episode just reminded me again - when can Atwater get a personal story?  I need more Kevin.

I just wanted to say that I haven't realized that this was a cover so I was so so SO confused with this scene. I kept thinking what the hell? They've never been so open with their relationship and I'm pretty sure everyone else can hear them kissing... Ok now I feel so stupid :p

My overall issue with the Olinsky remark is he would NEVER call Ruzek or Roman a 'badge bunny' because that term is used to drag down female officers. To shame them and remind them that they will be held to a standard male officers will not. It would not even occur to Olinsky to go after a male officer and shame him for having the nerve to date female officers in his own precinct. Olinsky basically said she wasn't a real cop, that the men in her personal life did the work for her and that's bull crap.  This is why I'm so glad Trudy gave Kim a heads up. Trudy KNEW what was going to drop, she saw it coming a mile away and that's why Kim handled his sexist noise as well as she did.  Trudy was the one doing the true mentoring. No shaming or dismissal, just solid advice that Kim immediately used when Olinsky tried to bully her.  I like Olinsky, but that was a bullshit moment on his part and not surprising that he pulled it when he was alone with Kim.

Actually, a badge bunny has nothing to do with BEING a cop--it's a term for those women (and frankly girls) who think the uniform is hot and will just keep dating cops.  He wasn't referring to her as a less-than cop--he was referring to her as one of those ditzy girls who will go for any guy in a cop's uniform.  Yes, it may have been sexist, and it may have been inappropriate, but it isn't "a term...used to drag down female officers."  It's nothing to with female officers as a class.  It's a term that is for females who aren't cops.  So he was basically insinuating that she only got on the job to sleep with cops.  And while unfair, her behavior hasn't really contradicted that in some respects.  She doesn't seem to have ever dated someone who wasn't a cop, at least as long as we've been seeing her, and Al has been seeing her, and like in any other field, a woman who sleeps around at work is going to be judged for it more than a guy.  Not fair, not equal, but true.

As to not shaming male cops who sleep their way through their female counterparts--there are two parts to this. One, is that the number of male cops seriously outnumbers the number of female cops,  So the number of female cops who are available to be romantic or sexual partners is much lower than the number of ale cops.  But a male cop who keeps going after the women at work--or who likes him some badge bunnies--is still going to get a reputation and people are going to look down on that behavior.  There's just a lot of different words for it, including a man whore, a horn dog, a lech, a tail chaser, et cetera.

Even though I have heard female officers referred to as 'badge bunnies', generally those who are still very new, I can concede that it's mostly civilian women who are given the name.

Still, for Olinsky to call Burgess a badge bunny, is nothing less than foul and sexist.  It's also untrue.  Ruzek is just as new an officer as Burgess and the only thing Olinsky has challenged HIM on is being unprofessional or too green. It has never been that he is too busy chasing police tail.  In fact, it has been Ruzek to bring up his personal relationship with Burgess on the job to none other than Olinsky. Did Olinsky sneer and suggest Ruzek only became a cop to sleep with female officers? Nope. The two main romantic relationships Lindsay has had on the show are with Severide and Halstead, a firefighter and a cop, one within her own unit.  Yet, I seriously doubt he'd take that tone and attitude with her, that she only dates men in uniform.  Burgess has been shot on the job, she has killed someone, she has watched a partner get shot, she has held her own in bad situations and he has the NERVE to suggest that she's just some girl playing pretend?  That's why I loved Platt preparing Burgess, because she knew it was coming, which also implies, she's seen that bullshit come out of Olinsky's mouth before. That's why I loved Burgess' reaction to Olinsky's foulness. She was taken aback and yes, hurt. But the respect she held for him as a newbie eager to prove herself and to earn her mentor's approval just drained from her in that moment.  It's interesting, because Olinsky comes across as more measured, even handed, maybe even laid back, that very little phases him. Yet that moment showed he could bring a different kind of ugliness than Voight to the job.  And I absolutely loved how Burgess handled him, basically telling him to go fuck himself.  She's already saved his ass from getting shot, so maybe he's eaten that crow.

I think that if that wasn't Kim who isn't that well-liked as a character, less people would be ok with Olinsky's behaviour. Kim is actually older (on the job) than Ruzek because she was already in uniform when Ruzek got pulled out from the academy. And that means that in all her years on the force she was with 2 guys and she was with one of them for more than a year and got engaged to him. How exactly does that count as "slutty" behaviour or her going after men in uniforms? And again, your boss (or in any way, any kind of superior at work) bringing up your sexual life while judging your ability to do your job is sexist, unfair and frankly ridiculous. This has nothing to do with whether you like Kim or not or even whether she is a good cop. No one deserves to be treated like that and Olinsky's behaviour can't be excused.

And Platt was pretty straight forward about the fact that Olinsky doesn't like women on the job. Which is kinda weird as a storyline given that he was never dismissive of Lindsay or that random girl they had assigned on the unit or even Kim as patrol. But that's a different issue.
