S02.E04: Spokesman Scandal

Recommended Posts

Glenn grows concerned that he doesn't know enough about his employees after Cloud 9's spokesman is accused of a crime. Dina exploits Glenn's concerns by implementing storewide drug testing. Meanwhile, Amy and Jonah have a flirty day avoiding work; Cheyenne annoys Garrett by talking about her baby; and Mateo tries to understand his ambiguous relationship with Jeff.

The above is definitely not the episode my affiliate aired tonight.

I'm surprised they actually went there with Matteo & Jeff, especially so soon after setting it up.  And in the same episode they seemed to signal Amy feels something for (oddly hairless) Jonah.

I love that they are giving Sandra more and more to do.

I loved that Cheyenne didn't get offended when Garrett yelled at her to shut up about the baby.

Love that Sandra is getting more development.

Also, they added a new character (the one who was trying to leave early to avoid the drug test) and I swear I know the actor but I can't remember his name. If it's who I think it is, he's very funny, so I'm excited he's joined the ensemble.

Everyone is making me laugh. All the actors are just great. I could easily hate some of the characters if I think about the writing on its own.

Man I love this show. It may not have me rolling on the floor but I'm smiling from ear to ear through the whole thing. I loved the cold open with the Cloud 9 mascot being exposed as a serial killer and Glenn trying to turn off the TV only to broadcast the gruesome details throughout the store, then trying to drown it out with a church hymn. And of course Dena would want to drug test everyone. Poor Sandra's coffee mug!

I loved when Cheyenne and Sandra started mocking Garret's shoe love, I liked seeing them bond. And once again, they got the fun pranks right. I can't tell you how many games of phone tag we played, played weird announcements over the PA system, how fun it was when you had a goof off buddy you could waste whole shifts with on occasion, and just how many inappropriate work relationships I saw or might have been part of. Anyone remember Real Talking Bubba, the hillbilly bear of the late 90s? He got played over the PA tons of times. I worked with my sister for a few years at one point in time, and one summer we got a ton of live plants in at the very end of the season and they were pretty much dead when they got to us. My sister and I both worked the service desk when they came in and she got on the PA about every 15 minutes one night for our 4 hour shift and gave these hysterically ridiculous announcements about having a heart and giving a poor neglected plant a little love and a good home. Customers were laughing their asses off, but they did buy the dead plants. She and I also worked together when the chain we worked for was bought out and we went through the whole liquidation and transfer to the new chain. I remember we were working in the stock room one night checking in about a million tiny boxes of cosmetics. We got slap happy and she laid down on the floor on a giant piece of card board and I outlined her body… and then we turned it into a crime scene. One store had a manager who loved to prank employees, once he paged an older random employee to the fitting rooms… with a hanger. She didn't even work in soft lines, but she showed up all confused carrying a single hanger. We never rode a canoe in the store, but we did have pallet jack surfing competitions around the store when it was closed, had to keep customer safety in mind. LOL! There were many, many, many swift attacher gun wars (the little plastic things that hang price tags on clothes). We would find as many of the guns we could, load them up with strips of the hangers, a good 100 were on a strip, and shoot our hearts out. Sticking a random electronic sensor on an employee was also a common prank so they set of alarm off at the door when they got too close. Don't even ask how many employees found themselves having been "priced" at $6969.69. I didn't say we were mature.

Me too!! She is hilarious! I know the storyline with her, Cheyenne, and Garrett was the throwaway one tonight, but I loved it! The three of them were great together!

I ship Jonah and Amy, OK???? I ship it hard! The actors have great chemistry, and cute little flirty, bantery storyline tonight was awesome. And we've seen evidence in prior episodes that her husband is kind of not the greatest, and that there may be trouble in paradise...so Jonamy for the win! (Jamy?)

Glenn remains one of my favorite characters. He's just so sweet, naive and innocent. It makes for some great moments!

Me too, I from the comments of previous episodes I thought I was the only one. I always thought they had a good chemistry and seeing them have fun together made it more apparent to me.

He's comedian, Felipe Esparza. Nico Santos (Mateo) is also a comedian.

I liked the fun they had daring each other to do crazy things, beginning with Amy walking around in the Cloud 9 costume saying, "I'm hungry." America Ferrera's big, beautiful teeth were perfect for that line.

Oh, and I thought making Amy sing the Charles in Charge theme song was hilarious, given how much Ben Feldman looks like a young Scott Baio. I like that she also sang it in Spanish, and I absolutely loved that the song got stuck in Dina's head.

But Jonah walking around nude except for his work apron? That might've been taking things too far.

I used to love Charles in Charge as a little kid so it was a fun time watching that bit. I get a kick out of all the comments about how Ben Feldman looks like Scott Baio. I don't see it as much, but I think it's hilarious because Ben is actually about 15 years older than when Scott was Charles in Charge.

I think that's a core component of Jonah. He doesn't have a sense for when he's taking things too far, such as the sex doll in the first season. I also figure it was supposed to get Amy's husband to start to wonder about the two of them.
