Wiendish Fitch August 3 Share August 3 (edited) The husband I recently watched That Darn Cat! (1965)*. Random thoughts: It's cute, if a touch overlong. I agree with Mr. Fitch that they could have eliminated at least one "follow the cat" sequence. The fact that Hayley Mills's character has a boyfriend named Canoe never fails to make me giggle. Does anyone else think that Dean Jones had a vaguely John Mulaney-esque quality to him, physically speaking? He has the lanky frame, boyish face, and ears that stick out a bit, and considering Jones spends all his time in suits, the resemblance really hit me. I know I shouldn't have laughed so hard at William Demarest calling the cops on his own busybody wife (Elsa Lanchester), but I couldn't help it. DC is one of the most beautiful movie cats I've ever seen, but I'm also glad I don't have a pet like him. I don't think I'd be as forgiving as Patti is. *No, I've never seen the 1997 remake, nor do I wish to. Edited August 3 by Wiendish Fitch 8 Link to comment

Random thoughts: This is my favorite of Disney's live-action movies of the era. Disney had so many great character actors under contract at the time, several of whom were used here to great effect -- Mills, Jones, Lanchester, Demarest, Roddy McDowall, Richard Deacon -- add in Frank Gorshin and Neville Brand as the villains, Bobby Darin to sing the theme song, and, of course, DC himself and you have what I consider a brilliant film. Quote *No, I've never seen the 1997 remake, nor do I wish to. Good call. A sad waste of Christina Ricci, who looked too bored to even bother to rise above the material. Should've been a DCOM. Spartan Girl August 11 Share August 11 Totally psyched for the Frozen musical on Disney+ but they’d still better put the Aladdin on at some point. They also better not write out Bo Peep AGAIN in Toy Story 5. I’d hate to think Woody’s happy ending got overturned because of the whiners on the internet. 🤦♀️ The Mufasa trailer: really?! They’re basically giving us villain apologia for Scar saying that Mufasa was adopted and Scar was technically the rightful heir. I can’t even begin to go into all the reasons of how wrong that all is. Snow White: Rachel looks and sounds great. So does Gal Gadot. Even if the movie is not, I’ll see it just to spite the haters. 3 1 Link to comment

Trini August 11 Share August 11 (edited) Mufasa: Animation-wise, looks fine; they improved the expressiveness of the lions. But I don't think many people were clamoring for the backstory on these two. And it's going to be weird watching this story knowing that, eventually, one murders the other. Snow White: Not especially interested in ANY Snow White story; but seeing as how the original is pretty 'meh' next to every princess movie that came after (the perils of being first, I guess), it was probably due for a re-make. Snow being an actual human, and the dwarves being somewhat cartoony CGI isn't quite working from what little is seen of them in the teaser. 22 hours ago, Spartan Girl said: The Mufasa trailer: really?! ["Spoilers" for a decades-old direct-to-video sequel, LOL:] Spoiler True, but on the other hand, it makes Simba's daughter and Scar's son getting together a lot less incest-y? Psyched about Incredibles 3, though! One of the few Pixar films that should be a franchise. I hope they age up everyone this time, though. I hope Zootopia 2 is good, too. andromeda331 August 12 Share August 12 Well, I'll be skipping Mufasa, I don't want a Scar apologia story. I can't wait for Incredibles 3, Frozen and Zootopia 2. We should have had Incredibles and Zootopia sooner. I hope Snow White is good. I haven't liked any of the live action remakes. So I'm not optimistic. I'll skip Toy Story 5 for me the story ended in Toy Story 3 with Andy going off to college and the toys going to a new home with a new kid. 2 Link to comment
Kel Varnsen August 12 Share August 12 Frozen III in 2027 and then possibly Frozen IV after that seems so weird to me. My daughter saw Frozen when she was 3 years old, it was the first movie she saw in theaters and was her favourite for a long time. My wife asked her if she would want to go with her to see III when she is 17 and she said no way. 2 Link to comment

Wiendish Fitch September 2 Share September 2 I recently watched The Ugly Dachshund (1966). It's basically cinematic cotton candy: Sweet and insubstantial, but certainly not bad. If you just want a movie with cute dogs, boy does this one deliver! Dean Jones is charmingly boyish and unthreatening as always, and Suzanne Pleshette sports some fabulous 60s hairdos and fashions. There's some unfortunate racial stereotypes involving some Asian workers (one of whom is played by a young Mako), but at least it doesn't last too long. 1 2 Link to comment

Wiendish Fitch September 5 Share September 5 (edited) Blackbeard's Ghost (1968) A cute little outing, little bit of Canterville Ghost, with bits of Angels in the Outfield thrown in. I just adore Peter Ustinov (my second favorite Poirot!), and he's his usual, delightfully hammy self in this (it's as if he's teeing up to voice Prince John). Dean Jones actually plays someone with a backbone for a change! Imagine that! Suzanne Pleshette once again manages to make the most of the love interest part, and I think she looks like Gal Gadot from certain angles in this. I did love stuffy Dean Wheaton loudly cheering on the track team and telling Coach Pervis that he hates football. The dumbest things give me joy, I swear. tv echo October 19 Share October 19 (edited) ‘Prince Charming’ Movie In Works At Disney With Paul King Aboard To Direct By Justin Kroll October 17, 2024 https://deadline.com/2024/10/prince-charming-movie-disney-paul-king-1236118273/ Quote EXCLUSIVE: After helping bring the Paddington franchise and a new Willy Wonka movie to life, director Paul King has his sights set on another iconic character. Sources tell Deadline that King has come on to direct a new Prince Charming movie at Disney. Simon Farnaby and Jon Croker are co-writing along with King. While plot details are unknown, the Prince Charming character has many origins throughout literature but when it comes to Disney is usually linked to the character that becomes of the love interest of many of the Disney princesses. While many have linked him to classic animated pics like Sleeping Beauty and Snow White, his true origin is Cinderella, where Cinderella’s actual love interest is Prince Charming. As for the the film project, insiders do add that the film will not specifically be linked to Cinderella. Edited October 19 by tv echo 1 Link to comment
BlueSkies October 30 Share October 30 Oliver and Company I just re watched I’d been listening to the Billy Joel Sirius channel and had a remembrance of his music being in a Disney movie once. As it was he was actually the voice of Dodger the dog in the movie too. Cheech Marin was a voice in the movie of Tito as well and was pretty funny. If this is torture chain me to the wall!! Pretty memorable and funny quote. 3 of 4 stars for me. And the film is only 78 minutes long 2 Link to comment
