Many years ago, I posted here my hatred for the song "Wind Beneath My Wings". 

No, time has not softened my opinion, I still hate it, but lest I completely wallow in negativity, I do think there are songs out there that succeed where "WBMW" fails. One great example is "I'll Remember" by Madonna. It's tender, sincere, and Madonna isn't humble-bragging all over the place; on the contrary, she's willing to admit her weaknesses that the subject of the song helped her overcome.

I'll even put "Kind and Generous" by Natalie Merchant over "WBMW". Hell, I don't even like that song either (or Merchant as a singer*), I find it tedious, but you know what I appreciate about it? The subject of the song is just that, THE SUBJECT, not the object. 

My point is, this kind of song can be done well.

 

*Though I still love "Wonder". I'm not made of stone, you know.

Perhaps its because I associate 90s dance music still largely with innocence for me but songs like this are still banging

I like Cyndi Lauper for the most part but really don't like the song Time After Time.  It just comes across as overly winey to me

OK, I'll wade in.  I don't like this breathless, groaning, rumble-speak style of women "singers."  Billie Eilish and Lorde, I'm looking at you.

Is that even technically singing????  So many female singers nowadays sound alike,  singers used to have their own style or recognition to their voice.

A lot of the current music sounds to me like the singer is bored or falling asleep. Give me the emotions, people!

It's a proven fact that music was better when you were a teenager. Not many of today's bands are up to that standard. In fact, modern albums by bands that were around when you were a teenager aren't as good either. Some of them reach the heights of 7/10, but not the 9 or 10 of your teenage years.

Unlike a number of  pop singers or posers, need help  with studio vocal processors, Marcin actually has true talent in his playing the guitar. Here he is playing a  song written over 220 years ago by Beethoven.

I think she's okay, although a bit overrated.  Sabrina Carpenter, on the other hand is extremely mediocre and is just getting by with her sexy act.

I love the version done by the Hooters.  Two band members (Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian) cowrote the song and actually sang back-up on her record, and their version is so much better and more heartfelt than hers.  I do love her in general, but you're kinda right about this one.

I like one or two of Lorde's songs, but think her style of singing can get tedious.  Billie Eilish just sucks.

I listened to the Bay City Rollers in my early teens, so I'm not sure this actually applies to me, lol.  I did more on to Styx and Journey, though, and then, an extreme upgrade, Elvis Costello.

Don't know if it's unpopular, but restarting a band after the original singer has died can be a dicey matter.  For every AC/DC where it works, there are too many other bands where it doesn't.  Case in point: Linkin Park.
