I figured that Bart's new shoes were gonna be crap (had a feeling Homer would buy knockoffs), but wasn't expecting the return of Mike Wegmen(s) being responsible. Honestly, selling Homer bootleg stuff was definitely a perfect reason to bring him back.

Homer went viral last week, and now it's Bart's turn. Getting shamed on TikTok from every conceivable angle was pretty harsh. But at least his new friend The Weeknd was able to make him cool again. And then Homer wore all the cool clothes and now all the loser dads made them uncool again. I don't know how to feel that I'm at the age that the Poochie hat Kirk wore would be marketed to. And would rather go to an aviation museum instead of a sneaker release party. Honestly liked the twist that Orion's dad was, well, a normal dad. And Orion being a clone was a funnier twist. (And explains why The Weeknd voiced both characters).

The hard shell tacos literally exploding in everyone's faces gave me the biggest laugh of the episode. I felt that so hard.

I loved that Bart called in Marge to remind Homer that he's old and uncool. I love sweet Marge moments like that.

Saw Homer to the Max from season 10 earlier. I kinda like the meta element of Homer being embarrassed that people laughed at him for his supposed stupidity. By now, Jerkass Homer has long set in, so it's kinda fun to see a plot like this shake things up a little.

Couch Gag: Picture slide puzzle!

"What I'm hearing is 'wedding drunk.'"
"Wedding drunk, cash bar."

Oof, I felt that. That's tipsy at best.

We finally get some development on..Brandine? And she's smart?! (REGULAR Jeopardy smart!) Okay, then. We finally get an origin story on her and Cletus. They're kissing cousins. Like Sarah Wiggum a season ago, this show made me care about a one-note female character on this show. Her arc was pretty sweet. And add her to the pile of characters that stayed with the Simpson family for no reason.

Marge gets a wake-up call she's gotten several times: She could've done much better than Homer, while Homer couldn't do better. This time EVERYONE could see it, even supermarket signs and country singers.

I wish we saw more of the Hillbilly museum, what we did see was great. Liked seeing Hank Hill and Bill Clinton in the Hill Folk in Media exhibit.

I’m pretty sure any other guy would be gotten sick of her within several months.

Couldn’t they have just left this as a Cleutus/Brandine episode instead of making it the same old Homer/Marge AGAIN?! I KNEW that brief shining moment of “Pixelated and Afraid” was too good to last. God forbid that she actually grow a spine and tell those people that it’s her life and she doesn’t care what they think of her marriage.

I'm flipping channels yesterday and stop briefly on FXX with The Simpsons. For some reason Homer has dug up the 1985 Chicago Bears:

Homer: Now get up here boy! We're gonna do the Super Bowl Shuffle."

Bart: No! You never let me be Mike Singletary!

Homer: [annoyed] Fine. You're Mike Singletary. Enjoy your mediocre coaching career.

Couch Gag: the family as music notes! Fitting for a music-themed episode.

It was weird to retcon Bleeding Gums Murphy as a good dad (and a dad, period), but a welcome one. It was odd to hear him voiced by a different jazz man, but that's gonna happen when Ron Taylor's been dead for twenty years. I did like Murphy's son, played by an actual deaf actor, to boot. For once it was nice to see a "take THAT, Lisa's beliefs" story end on a sweet note. I got a big laugh out of Bart being responsible for the first sound Monk got to hear, and the Driving Miss Daisy spoof crashing into the car from Green Book. I did like that the Lottery (which Kent Brockman DIDN'T win for once) was a constant thread through the whole story.

It was nice to see SEVERAL deaf actors in this, not just John Autry II.

Bart finally gets a permanent teacher! She's actually...qualified. We went from a teacher that didn't GAF to one that cares a little too much. I think Ms. Peyton would get along with Lisa quite well. She's married to an Oboist, Lisa would love a fellow woodwind fan.

I really loved Nancy's performance of Bart in this one, and I really liked the execution of Bart's acting out. For once it's not out of malice or just wanting to do something mischievous, he's got a crush. I loved that ending with Bart having to do the chalkboard punishment again. Why did that make me emotional?

Not the first time Lisa's sold out to win an award, but keeping an Octopus she claimed died in her documentary as a pet is a new one. But I liked where it went. Molly was a good one-off Simpsons pet.

While I feel that Kerry Washington can do better than this show, she did a good job with this character and am glad she’s sticking around. The chalkboard at the end got me misty too.

LMAO at Chaulmers and Skinner gloating in the closet together celebrating finally getting a qualified teacher.

Homer gave some great advice that helped both Bart and Lisa out. Gold star! Meanwhile Marge just whines about Lisa not having more “land friends.” 🙄

So is there a body of salt water near Springfield?

Doesn't octopi have to live in salt water?

Questionable it could live long in a bottle or especially outside, the way Molly get jumping around.

I haven't watched enough docs in recent years but Lisa's doc has to be satirizing a particular doc filmmaker?  You know, someone who puts his or herself in her docs and gets emo about the subject of the doc?

Season 33, ep 19 Girls Just Shauna Have Fun

Quote

When Lisa joins the high school marching band, she finds an unlikely mentor in Shauna Chalmers; Homer becomes a craft beer brewer.

airs 5/1/22

I like that Lisa thinks high school band geeks are cool. They get to play FIFTY year old music instead of 100 year old music!

So...is Shauna in High School now, or was she like Lisa and the marching band needed a drummer? I still think it's weird that they retconned Shauna to be Chalmers's daughter, but I like how the episode covered it.

Speaking of Chalmers, leave it to him to make homebrewing as nerdy as possible. Actually dressing up as a Belgian Monk to make brewing Belgian beer a authentic as possible. I do love how Homer's monk getup ended up giving him and Marge a new way to be horny. (Speaking of which, I liked Marge getting into Werewolf erotica)

But also MARTIN HAS A BROTHER?! Since when?!

Shauna has been Chalmers' daughter for a while and it still rubs me the wrong way. Maybe because, unlike Ralph who got retconned into Wiggum's son early in the series, Chalmers was around for a long, long time before they introduced Shauna, let alone making her his daughter.

Spoiler

I couldn't watch this one after I read that it died in the end,

so I really enjoyed that storyline and thought the show did a good, albeit unrealistic, job with it.

Had to check in here before I watched though, just to be sure that they didn't follow MOT too closely.  Snowball's demise I was able to handle; Molly would have been a real bummer.

Title: Happy Mother's Day! This counts as a gift!

Couch Gag: The family as Mt. Rushmore! Homer crumbles. Also, the entire intro goes in reverse at the end for some reason.

Chalkboard: I will not violate the laws of entropy.

So that's how they handwaved Marge messing with a different principal: she went to a different middle school. I'm with Homer: it's weird that Marge is the parent with a wild prankster side. It was fun to see Marge and Bart bond like that, though.

Of course Homer tries to bond with Lisa through food, but he can't stand anything healthy.

Loved that Marge was concerned about waiting for the Avatar sequel.

Really good animation on Burns getting hit by all the cars and flying into the power lines.

Once again, I’m surprised by how much I liked this episode. Yeah, Marge having a prankster side was way OOC since she’s usually the biggest holier-than-thou stick in the mud there is, but it was kind of refreshing to see her bond with Bart like that.

Of all things, we got an origin for Krusty Burger: Krusty's the Ray Kroc of "Worth-A-Try Burger." Loved seeing the Mac and Me spoof (but I was really hoping for a reference to the clip Paul Rudd always showed on Conan's show). It was nice to see a Grampa/Lisa story for once.

I want to go to that Krusty Burger Anniversary festival so bad. Loved that Marge couldn't go on their (mysterious?) trip to Holland because of it.

I almost forgot that this was the episode with the Succession spoof. Odd that they got soundalikes, (with the exception of Cousin Greg), but I'll allow it because John Lithgow, Paul F Tompkins, Krysten Ritter, and Seth Green were fine replacements (correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's the first time ANY of them were on the show).

I believe Homer said Patty sung at Princes Fry's Funeral. :) That fits more with the wordplay they're doing.

Heh, the last line about Krusty being the least funny person at the Kibbutz made me laugh.

Also, since Family Guy did a Succession Parody this season as well (only 1/3 of an episode), that means Seth's been in at least 2 Succession parodies now. (3 if Robot Chicken did one, which is almost a certainty)  If not a record it's probably up there for most Succession Parodies by a single actor. :)

Couch Gag: Designs by fanartist Spikermonster on Twitter! he's a cool guy. The animation was incredible.

Loved their take on Bridgerton: Good looking people in period clothing dancing naked. Horny Marge is an underappreciated runner.

Speaking of Marge, they retconned her dad. He played a pizza in an antacid commercial and she's not traumatized from that.

I liked Homer showing Bart the "perks" of his job (mostly stolen pens). Also loved the song about how the middle class was built, and later screwed over. (Fun fact: Robert Reich, beloved twitter leftie, was the Labor Secretary that oversaw NAFTA. Real Tim Robinson Hot Dog Guy energy there).

So the moral of the story: old people suck and always vote, and become a firefighter because it's guaranteed employment because everything is on fire. "Wild Barts Can't Be Broken" proved that over 20 years ago.

Overall this was a pretty good season! See you all in the fall!

"This is if the core goes missing." The nuclear reactor core. If it's not there. I want to see what the screen was.

It's patently false that nuclear reactor jobs don't exist anymore. Though I take the point about the middle class. Nuclear reactor operator isn't a middle class job either. Technically, they recruit from the nuclear navy. But, yes, you're not going to get a middle class job with a high school diploma.
