MyPeopleAreNordic December 19, 2015 Share December 19, 2015 Mypeoplearenordic, whoa damn! I wasn't going to say that about Ryan at all. I was just curious because we've never seen or heard about any siblings. I was just wondering. Sorry...I didn't mean it as an attack on you. I've just read all over other TM boards where people excuse Ryan's behavior with "well, he is an only child" and think "um, no my parents would never have allowed me to behave as he does and enable me as an adult-child." 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/35493-watch-a-trailer-for-season-5-of-teen-mom/page/2/#findComment-1814412

leighroda December 20, 2015 Share December 20, 2015 Wow, I would have never guessed that from the show. I remember thinking what I great relationship Maci has with Ryan's parents and how she must sometimes wish Ryan was more like his father. I think the funniest part of last season was Ryan's dad saying Ryan and Taylor should do a nude spread (this was after Maci went on a rant about Farrah doing porn) titled "Maci's baby daddies". That being said, I think Maci is putting too much of Ryan's faults on his parents. Maci's parents seem nice and I would imagine they did not raise their daughter to have to oops! pregnancies by the time she hit her mid twenties. However, blaming all of Maci's problems on them at this point wold be enabling and that is what she is doing to Ryan. I think Maci's anger is that no one could get Ryan to love her and treat her with respect. Yeah, his parents should have raised him better, but she also should have made him wrap it up, before he got with her. She was young then, so I give her a pass, but she did the same thing again (after giving paid lectures at school campuses on how to avoid unwanted pregnancies). I agree I think Maci is trying to put all the blame on anyone but herself. I have no idea how Ryan was raised, but I know how he turned out, whether it was because he was coddled or dispite his parents trying to raise him to be a responsible adult I don't know. Maci can say they raised him to be irresponsible or whatever, but at the end of the day, he's the irresponsible guy SHE chose to have unprotected sex with, so she can't really blame Ryan's parents in that sense. I'm sure Ryan sold himself as a great guy who would always love her etc, so I'm not saying it's all Maci's fault either... If I'm remembering correctly Maci says she got pregnant the first time she had sex... I'm sure Ryan put some pressure on her. I obviously don't know, so this is purely speculation, but my guess is that Ryan probably would have dumped her soon after getting what he wanted (sex), and she got pregnant before he could show his true colors in that regard, and threw a wrench in his plan to hightail it out of there. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/35493-watch-a-trailer-for-season-5-of-teen-mom/page/2/#findComment-1816716

I think it's safe to say Ryan was trying to hit it and quit it. But I think Maci and Farrah both (lol at them having something in common) like to paint what they had with Ryan/Derek as something so beautiful and magical, when in reality, it wasn't ever a good, mature or healthy relationship. Amber and Gary are in the same boat, but at least I think they loved (and hated) each other in equal amounts. And they were together for awhile before getting pregnant. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/35493-watch-a-trailer-for-season-5-of-teen-mom/page/2/#findComment-1817031

It pains me to defend Maci, but I think she and Ryan were in a relationship for about 6 months prior to her getting pregnant. And I think they were going on actual dates- Maci references Ryan coming to the door and talking to her parents when picking her up for dates in her 16 and pregnant episode. And he did propose to her. Now Maci might have a naive view of her and Ryan's long term potential without Bentley, but I do think Ryan did care for her. Farrah on the other hand, what a bitch. She made a bunch of unflattering remarks about him in her original episode and explicitly said she wasn't planning on co parenting with him or even letting him know about Sophia. Now she's claiming a secret Notebook inspired love story with no possibility of rebuttal. She sucks. 7 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/35493-watch-a-trailer-for-season-5-of-teen-mom/page/2/#findComment-1817476

I think while Ryan and Maci probably would have broken up even if they didn't have a baby, I think they were consistently good before Maci ended up becoming pregnant. They dated for a short time, I think he did like her but I think they would have broken up and moved on, instead they had a baby. Maci however is very inconsistent with the way she paints the story now. She changes it. The first season, she said they were so in love and perfect, when she met Kyle, that was love and Ryan was not. So, she paints different stories to whatever fit. Where as with Farrah and Derek, as much as I'm sure they were going on dates too, they to me anyway, seemed more of the breaking up/fighting every other week. From Farrah's original episode to what she says to her TM episodes doesn't quite add up. I don't know if she was ever going to tell him, I'm sure there would have been a legal fight. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it makes her sad that he died, that is awful that Sophia will never know her dad but I don't think they had a grand romance, either. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/35493-watch-a-trailer-for-season-5-of-teen-mom/page/2/#findComment-1820098
DoctorWhovian December 22, 2015 Share December 22, 2015 In Maci's defence (of changing stories as time goes on), I think it's possible for you to think something was great, and then not realise that it wasn't until you have something better to compare it to. And she's also grown up (even if just age wise), so while at 16/17, you think your relationship is so magical and disney like, but at 25, you look back and laugh about how stupid you were. I think I'd be more concerned if people's perspectives don't change as they grow. (Not to say that everything she says its 100% true, but that it makes sense that it has changed) 6 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/35493-watch-a-trailer-for-season-5-of-teen-mom/page/2/#findComment-1820959

She should not feel bad, as many girls that age would have fallen for a guy like him. Ryan, on the other hand, had no business messing around with a girl that young. WhosThatGirl December 22, 2015 Share December 22, 2015 I think in the case of Maci and Ryan's parents, the only option would have been adoption? It's strange to me that Maci wouldn't even consider that? For Farrah, she clearly had Sophia to spite her parents, her mother wanted adoption, with Amber and Gary, I think they both really didn't have anybody telling them to do anything different. But Maci is quite surprising that no one brought it up, unless they did and Maci was still in a fairytale where Ryan would and she would become a family. Maci is pretty headstrong in her choices, even when her parents are side-eyeing them (see the whole moving to Nashville to be with Kyle). So that's my only guess. They probably tried, Maci said no, Ryan proposed, Maci was probably like, "See it's going to work out!" 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/35493-watch-a-trailer-for-season-5-of-teen-mom/page/2/#findComment-1821940

I think this is what she said though I might be remembering it incorrectly. I agree with this, I think her parents' relationship had a strong impact on her (which is normal) and she had kind of a dreamy "love conquers all" outlook. In her parents' case, they are very much in the minority of teen parents that got married and are still happy together, and I'm sure they would be the first to agree with that. What Maci needed to learn here is that sometimes love isn't enough. No matter how much she loved Ryan, or he loved her, if two people aren't compatible, they aren't going to be happy together. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/35493-watch-a-trailer-for-season-5-of-teen-mom/page/2/#findComment-1823657

I have a lot of differences with my in-laws but I'd stop short of writing a celebrity tell-all where I blamed them for stuff simply because I know they love my son and my son loves them. I would not want to put my son in the position of feeling like he had to take sides or make situations where we're all together more uncomfortable. I wouldn't want my son to read bad things I'd written about his grandparents and other in-laws one day when he grows up. Bentley spends enough time with Jen, Larry, and Ryan....if they're awful (which I doubt), he'll catch on and make his own decisions about them as an adult. And I love me some Papa Larry. Maci needs to have a seat. Ryan's parents aren't perfect but they have tired to push Ryan to be a better dad and be involved (and picked up his slack), which is more than I can say for some other teen dads' families (such as many of the 16 & Pregnant dads' families and as well as Jace's dad Andrew's family.....best we know they act as if Jace doesn't exist even though Jenelle of all people is his mom). So, I don't really get it. She put it in there a couple times. Maci has a lot of anger over it. The best I can figure is this- Maci can't reconcile the pre-Bentley Ryan with the post Bentley Ryan. She still believes if Ryan had not been forced into fatherhood before he was ready, he would have been an awesome boyfriend and eventual husband, and if Jen and Larry had just done their jobs right, he would have readily accepted the responsibility and still been a decent boyfriend to her. Maci has also taken Ryan's failings as a father extremely personally, like the fact that Ryan generally has no desire to be a father is a direct reflection on his feelings for Maci. And in some cases, I think it is. Ryan strikes me as the type of guy who would be a better father to his kids if he cared about impressing their mother. If he has nothing to gain from the mom, then he has no incentive to have a better relationship with the kid. Better for Maci to believe that Ryan has some massive character defect ingrained by his parents' enabling than the fact that he can't be assed to be a better father to Bentley because he no longer gives a shit about Maci. Just my opinion anyways. But yes, I was taken aback by the hostility she seems to have for his parents. I really believe in her eyes, their lax parenting with him cost her their great love story. Like really, Maci, let it go. This guy peaked at 19. 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/35493-watch-a-trailer-for-season-5-of-teen-mom/page/2/#findComment-1823947
leighroda December 23, 2015 Share December 23, 2015 I have talked crap about Farrah idealizing her relationship with Derek, and it's just now occurring to me that I myself have been in a similar situation, and I feel a little bad. I had a boyfriend towards the end of high school, we broke up not so amicably after me freshman year of college (ironically we made it through long distance but broke up when I was local for the summer)... It didn't really end well and we never spoke, but he died in a car accident the next April. I have absolutely no reason to believe we would have ever spoken let alone gotten back together... But especially because I'm still single 15 years later, I do wonder sometimes if we would have worked things out or if he was "the one". The break up was dumb, it was because I felt smothered when I came home from college for the summer, I was used to the convenience of a boyfriend, but essentially having the space of my own life. Anyway my point being... Obviously if I am just now making the connection that I actually have experienced what Farrah did to a degree, it's not something I think about often, but I guess I can actually see why she seems to remember things with Derek better than they may have been. Now that I think about it I have a therapist myself and I'm trying to remember if I've ever told her about that, I don't think I have...But I stand by my stance that she should not be putting those same ideas into Sophia's head. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/35493-watch-a-trailer-for-season-5-of-teen-mom/page/2/#findComment-1824149
FozzyBear December 28, 2015 Share December 28, 2015 I may be in the minority, but I never, ever felt like either Maci or Ryan particularly romantized their relationship, even during 16 & Pregnant. I got the impression they were two not terribly deep thinking kids who grew up in families and a community that encouraged them to stay together when Maci became pregnant...so they did. And tried really hard to convince themselves it was what they really wanted. Even in the beginning I always felt like they both kind of knew it was a mistake, but didn't know how to express that. And I've never really heard either say anything that smacked of love so much as frustration that the "plan" they had been raised to follow didn't work out. Especially with Maci, I always get more of a "I did everything I was supposed to and I got screwed" vibe than a "I just wish Ryan loved me more!" vibe. 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/35493-watch-a-trailer-for-season-5-of-teen-mom/page/2/#findComment-1829857

truelovekiss December 28, 2015 Share December 28, 2015 I love the scene for the new season with Deborah, Farrah and Sophia where they're posing for a picture. Farrah and Deborah have big, fake smiles on their faces while Sophia is making an evil face that would have had Chuckie and Damian run screaming in the opposite direction. I hate saying this about a little girl, but she creeps me the hell out. She's going to be a worse bitch than her mom some day. I'm like 99% with you on this, but I don't know if it's possible to be a bigger bitch than Farrah. Damn, I wish I would have DVR'd that. I can't believe none of her friends had the balls to tell her just how much of an ass she was making of herself. I love it when she floated the idea by Ryan and Ryan was like, well I don't own the state of FL, I guess I can't stop you. Maci surrounds herself with yes-people, who were likely getting a free vacation. If I wad offered a free vacation to Florida, and all I had to do was tell Maci how in love with her Ryan is, I think I could muster that. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/35493-watch-a-trailer-for-season-5-of-teen-mom/page/2/#findComment-1831059
Maharincess December 28, 2015 Share December 28, 2015 Truelovekiss, you have a very good point but Sophia is learning from the master so if Sophia isn't worse, it'll be a damn close race. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/35493-watch-a-trailer-for-season-5-of-teen-mom/page/2/#findComment-1831096
ghoulina December 29, 2015 Share December 29, 2015 I think it's possible Sophia will be worse. I know, I know, it's hard to imagine that's even possible. But Farrah is like a crazier version of HER mother, so it seems to be a pattern here. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/35493-watch-a-trailer-for-season-5-of-teen-mom/page/2/#findComment-1832123
qtpye December 29, 2015 Share December 29, 2015 Well, in some recent interviews Farrah is already grooming Sophia to be a "star"...so that can not be good. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/35493-watch-a-trailer-for-season-5-of-teen-mom/page/2/#findComment-1832231
ghoulina December 29, 2015 Share December 29, 2015 Not surprising. Remember when Farrah got a gift from a fan and her immediate reaction was for her AND Sophia to take a picture to show their "friends on Twitter". So gross. I post pics of my kids on social media, but I have like 20 friends, all of whom I know in real life, and it's extremely private. She just blasts her kid out there for all the world to see and Sophia is very aware of what's going on. It's creepy. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/35493-watch-a-trailer-for-season-5-of-teen-mom/page/2/#findComment-1832875
TaxNerd December 29, 2015 Share December 29, 2015 It can always get worse. At least Farah has gumption and has always had a job the entire run of the series. Sophia might be just like Farah, but without the work ethic. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/35493-watch-a-trailer-for-season-5-of-teen-mom/page/2/#findComment-1833095
Darknight December 29, 2015 Share December 29, 2015 I agree I think Maci is trying to put all the blame on anyone but herself. I obviously don't know, so this is purely speculation, but my guess is that Ryan probably would have dumped her soon after getting what he wanted (sex), and she got pregnant before he could show his true colors in that regard, and threw a wrench in his plan to hightail it out of there.Didn't maci say she pressured him? 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/35493-watch-a-trailer-for-season-5-of-teen-mom/page/2/#findComment-1833205
GreatKazu December 29, 2015 Share December 29, 2015 Didn't maci say she pressured him? Did she? Hmmm...that puts a different spin on things. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/35493-watch-a-trailer-for-season-5-of-teen-mom/page/2/#findComment-1833291
CookieChica January 2, 2016 Share January 2, 2016 If Sophia ever needs any sort of defense in court, her lawyer is going to have a pretty decent case for affluenza. 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/35493-watch-a-trailer-for-season-5-of-teen-mom/page/2/#findComment-1839221
