literally everyone that has been announced for this show has been recurring...LMAO

So what casting news will be out tomorrow? (Just kidding. Maybe.)

Now that Talia's recurring, Church has to be gone by the midseason finale at the latest, right? At this point, there would be too much going on otherwise...

hes gone tonight.

Yeah, but doesn't this seem reminiscent of Seasons 1-2, when they wanted to move away from Oliver/Laurel and kept throwing new women in with Oliver?

Literally nothing indicates that any of these women are for Oliver...it's weird that the fandom asks for more women esp Women of Color and once we get it ppl assume they're just there to be love interests for Oliver.

Or you guys are just making everyone introduced into a LI no matter what role she might have?

It's based on past experience when it seemed like almost every new female character who came on the show ended up sleeping with Oliver.  Of course, it would be nice if this wasn't the case this season.

I had made a comment about Olicity being in a dynamic that was more in line with what I wanted out of S3 and with more LOA, I'm kind of thinking that's what they are doing. Maybe they want the audience to watch S1-S2-S5. Soo stupid.

We have literally no idea what they are doing with this characters. There may be no "throwing".

Can I just say that over the hiatus we were complaining that all the recurring characters were man and now that we are getting some female characters its a big negative?

I'm not thrilled with the LOA at all, but that's not jump to conclusions.

Susan Williams - unverified spoiler that Oliver has a one-night stand with her.
Tina - possibly misleading 'casting sides' that indicate she's a love interest for Oliver.
New Black Canary - see comics.
Talia al Ghul - ?

Joking about Oliver's potential LI aside, there's been talk about getting more female villains on the show and it's nice that it looks like they're going to follow through.

For me, the fact that Talia was a love interest for Batman, and this show was secretly trying to be Batman in the first season, indicates that she might be a love interest.  Plus, I thought I was seeing the season one pattern, too, @tv echo, with Tina being Mckenna 2.0 (or possibly Black Canary 2.0, or possibly both McKenna and Black Canary) and Talia being the crazy dangerous Huntress 2.0.

Every single time a female character gets announced its automatically a LI. Tina and Talia appear around the same time. So is Oliver gonna have a threesome with them?

No, but you might see a season 1a dynamic where you had Oliver in a romantic entanglement with Huntress in  7, 8, 9, and 17, and connected with McKenna in 12, 15, 16, 17 where there's little break between the two.

According to who? I thought Mckenna and Oliver knew each other from before? So that doesnt sound anything like the new cop, Tina.

Wouldn't that just be a game changer ;-)

Wasn't the LoA boring enough the first time around?

It could also mean the return of Malcolm. Barrowman has small window open before he goes off to do that musical.

Noooooo. I'm barely watching but was enjoying Arrow being MM-free.

However, that makes sense. Does MM still lead the LOA? Maybe Talia is coming to take it back since Nyssa was unable to. Still forever bitter over that nonsense. I just hope it's a limited story line. TPTB botched the LOA so spectacularly, I have no desire to ever see them again.

The LOA supposedly doesn't exist anymore because Nyssa disbanded it after she became Ra's al Ghul.

Thanks. I now vaguely remember that happening. Not sure if I should chalk this up to unmemorable story telling or my terrible memory.

Maybe Flashpoint will mean it still exists. Or they'll conveniently forget that it shouldn't exist anymore. Or there will be some group of the LOA still operating.

Might be you suppressed the memory, since Malcolm being so pissed about the League's end prompted him to tell Damien Darhk about lil William. :) It's BMD-adjacent. :D

Noooooo!  It seems like Flashpoint is a "Let's re-do everything" " Get out of jail free" card.  AKA cheating on the storytelling.

Did Malcolm have some rogue members of the LoA follow Malcolm in season 4 or am I confusing it with fanfic?

BTW, Lexa Doig is 43!  Hard to believe. And she's married to Michael Shanks...

Maybe they're get Shanks on for a cameo.  I like her twitter stream, she's into Native affairs and serious stuff.

I wouldn't be worried if Felicity didn't have a boyfriend and the producers keep hammering at the "It's just like season 1" drum.

I'm thinking it's from tonight's episode because isn't there a photo of Oliver and Diggle pretty much in that same spot with Diggle in that shirt and Oliver in the GA suit that was released already?

And wow, this just reminds me how much I've missed OTA.

Diggle: Oliver rescued me and now I can't leave to buy groceries or take not-Sara to the park.

Oliver: Felicity, I fuck'd up. Help me.

Felicity: Oliver is very sorry for not thinking this through but he loves you very much and we will work this out. OGs 4ever.

TV Echo, your list of recurring women characters in the last few seasons not only includes several who weren't love interests for Oliver, but leaves out a few who were not love interests or related to Oliver:

1. Joanna de la Vega (Laurel's friend)

2. Kate Spencer

3. Officer Lopez (the cop Quentin talked to last season when he needed to convey info to the audience; I believe she's technically a day player, but she made several appearances last season)

4. Carrie Cutter/Cupid (ok, yes, she thought she was a love interest for Oliver, but....)

5. Jean Loring (Moira's attorney)

6. The H.I.V.E. woman who showed up for three episodes (Phaedra Nixon)

7. The mayor during season 3, who appeared in a couple of episodes before Maseo shot her

8. The one news reporter (ok, technically a day player, but she's been on the show for four seasons now and as far as I can tell she hasn't even gotten laid. I'm worried about her, guys.  She's constantly covering terrorist attacks and murders. She needs an emotional break. She needs a relationship. Or at least some excellent sushi. Or Barry bringing her a pizza. #CharacterDevelopmentForOurRealNewsReportersSeason5)

Plus additional women showcased for one or two episodes, some of whom were announced as recurring/potentially recurring but ended up only appearing for a single episode for various reasons - last season's Lady Cop and Vixen, for instance.

Both of our lists gloss over another issue: during seasons 2-4, and especially during season 3, Arrow went well out of its way to avoid hiring actors for speaking parts for budget reasons. That has loosened up considerably this season - we've had as many as 20 characters speaking in one episode, something Arrow hasn't done since season 5.

So given that Arrow managed to bring in women with roles other than "someone Oliver might bang" during those three tight budget seasons, I think it's reasonable to assume that, now that the cast budget has finally loosened up a bit and Arrow can hire more actors in general, that at least some of these incoming recurring women will have roles beyond "someone Oliver might bang."

Reading thru that and considering budget, do you think The CW is investing more into their comic line this season or KC was really that expensive?

Arrow got a 25% budget cut in the second season, which is, not at all coincidentally, when the sets, recurring minor voiced parts like Frank Chen and Quentin's partner, and extras started disappearing. In the third season, Arrow brought on not just Barrowman on a regular basis, but Brandon Routh, who was that expensive, and had to pay the Flash actors full pay per episode for their crossover appearances, which was presumably pretty low for Carlos Valdes, but not for Grant Gustin.

Berlanti explained at some event or other that he did some renegotiation this year to pay everyone less for the crossover episodes, and he's having his production people coordinate group scenes so that extras can be brought in for just two days per week and moved around all four shows, and is following Fox's trick of using the same four extras on a recurring basis on four separate shows - that is, getting four shows worth of work for a single day pay.  From what I can tell, Berlanti also managed to get the CW to pay more for Supergirl than for the other three shows - even apart from the flying effects, Supergirl is using more location and effects shots, while also having Supergirl share sets and location shots with the other shows.

It's not working perfectly, and the less we talk about Legends of Tomorrow's CGI budget this year, the better, but it does seem to be giving him more flexibility to hire additional speaking parts. And it's possible that he may have convinced the WB to look at Arrow's much higher post-view revenue when determining budgets this season.

It's of note that the first six women on that list were somewhat evenly distributed between the first 40% of the episodes of the show, when they were first going with playboy billionaire, then trying to unfuck the O/L disaster by not going anywhere near Felicity until Oliver was 100% untangled from Lances.

Since then it has been all. about. Felicity. and nobody else [sorry, #Poppy!] for the other ~60% of episodes.

I mean, Oliver maybe is getting laid tonight, but the last time he slept with a woman who wasn't Felicity it was like, April 2014.
