That was really nice to see these folk acting like real, relate-able, human beings.  (Though Abi managed to look sour in her one shot.  It was if she was pissed at being in a shot with Peih-Gee and Shirin.  "I should be in a group photo with Kelley and Monica.")

I liked the secret scene of Kass and her "hot guys" alliance, talking on the beach with Joe.  Nice to see Kass has a sense of humor, especially when she said she is what Joe wanted.  I don't really remember that side of Kass during Cagayan.

I have not seen the bonus clip sont he CBS website but have found them on Youtube. So here is the link

The nice thing is no commercials, or at least less frequent commercials. I have not seen any in the three clips that I have watched. Also, the clips flow one after another so it is easier to listen to them.

Monica has a clip were she is talking about her response to Savage's story that is pretty nice. She discussed how impressive it is to see a stereotypical big, strong man be emotional and how important it is to allow yourself to be emotional occassionally on the show.

Best of yet, there are ton of clips from Bayon so you can hear their perspective. Kimmi discusses how much they got off the ship and how well they are eating. Savage discusses how well they are working together. So far, I have not heard a clip where they are discussing strategy and alliances.

Abi is smocking crack in her clip. She is working hard to be a good player and not be emotional and in control. Yeah, right. ummhmmmm. That is why Jeff, Shirin, Spencer and PG all describe her as a loose cannon. Yup, great at controlling her emotions and behavior. Totally acting like an adult.

I wish they showed more clips, or footage.  Sometimes I wish Survivor was 90 minutes every week, though they would probably use that excuse to showcase more of the producer pets or drag some non important issue out.  Still, I saw Nick Brown the Outback season mentioned in another thread-and its telling that I remember him, even though what I remember most was he barely got any screen time, yet I have trouble remembering who was the final 5 just a couple seasons ago.  So it'd be nice to get equally opportunity for both tribes.  Plus, maybe it'd be less obvious who was losing if they didn't focus so much on one group.

My favorite bonus clips from this week were the one of Joe (We Made Out Like Bandits)-and not just because it has my favorite manbun, but I loved how he coyly tried to play off that he got pulled into the challenge even though his strategy was to try and stay on the sidelines.  You can tell he really just wants a part of those challenges.  He's screwed no matter what, why not do what he enjoys the most out of this.  Also loved Spencer's clip (I'm Sick of It).

The secret scene this week is titled "Cabana Boy" (I didn't even need to click on it or read the description to know it was about Joe).  I love Joe and his manbun, but I loved Keith mimicking Joe tossing his hair around and saying he didn't know if he was there to win Survivor or show off his hair (and then said he'd make someone a good wife for all he does around camp).  I don't think Keith is good at this game, but at least he's good for soundbites.  Kelley pointed out where Joe is going wrong (again) in that he is being way too nice and helpful around camp.  She said she barely moved from the shelter and anytime she went to do something it was done.  Well, as long as Joe and his hair are on the jury again, I'll be happy.

I love that scene. I love Kass's take on Joe. She is going to let him do his thing and take care of her. Kelley is game until he needs to go because he would win the game.

I do wish that the YouTube page was organized so you could just watch the Bonus Clips instead of having them mixed in with scenes from the show. Ah well.

Not thrilled with Keith's comment that he would make someone a good wife. I get it, he is from a place where there are defined roles for men and women but really? Joe works hard around camp and is a good cook. How about just be happy with that and not make stupid statements. He is demeaning Joe's efforts when he says that crap. It is the small stuff that annoys me because those are the type of embedded stereotypes that add up and reinforce the larger roles and images that we have as a society.

Yeah, he didn't quite manage to hide his eagerness to jump in. Honestly, he's not hiding that target anyway so might as well go all out and help them stay away from TC until the merge.

The clip about his fishing was incredibly dull and I wonder why they bothered to include that as a bonus clip. 3 minutes of Joe going "so I try left or right and see what works..." is not compelling video.

Keith's video about loved ones at home was cute, he apparently calls his wife "Big D," which made me laugh.

Bonus clips are up.  In Joe's "It Wasn't This Good", he mentions he's been in the game two weeks at this point and hasn't really been hungry once.  Which should clue the producers in that they are feeding them too much with the rewards and aren't making them "survive".  It also sounds like he's content staying with the Ta'Keo numbers, as he said they are good going into another swap/merge because they've been eating and aren't weak so they shouldn't have any problems.  I'd like to think that might make TPTB think for the future about rewards and what happens one when tribe gets the stronger players and continually wins, but I know it won't.

They also have all that fruit around them and the grocery store (the ocean) helping them, too. I thought Joe & Terry would be super skinny but they've been eating up a storm.

Poor Stephen. The secret scene is Stephens Struggles which is all about he sucks at everything around camp. Then there is another scene about the slingshot. Poor boy is getting hammered in the bonus clips

Tasha talks about Woo's comments about his Mom. She was touched by them and how Woo was opening up a bit. Keith discusses being good with balls. The clips are fun

The clips were better this week, I thought.  I did have to laugh at poor Stephen, though.  Finally he gets a decent edit in the episode, and they still make him look bad in the bonus clips.  Hopefully at the end of the day he has a sense of humor about it.  At least he admits he isn't a country boy and is out of his element.

It's really sick how the show is beginning to pick on Stephen. We get it! Stephen is a Fishbach out of water.

I would downgrade the editing this season from Not Bad to Downright Poor with how repetitive it's been.

So yeah Abi can't wait until the "crazies" are voted off so they can actually start playing a fun game. lol

That's fantastic!!!  Also, she's going to lay low....hahahaha!

I really wonder why it is they are ignoring Kelly.  She's had quite a few bonus clips, and while they may not all be the most exciting moments, I have to think she isn't deliberately laying low for TPTB.  I liked this one, since she did a comparison of merges between her season and this one, as well as how alliances have changed.

Because how else could they squeeze in Savage's seventh confessional of the episode if they let Kelly have one that was an interesting, reflective moment on then and nows?

Assuming she has any interesting, reflective moments on then and now.  Kelly, as I understand it, has pretty well withdrawn from society.  She lives in some small, remote section of Mexico.  No internet.  She hasn't watched a single episode of the show since her season.  Also, IIRC most players who have gotten booted this season say she says little, doesn't strategize or 'play' the game.

It's one of the ironies of Survivor that this could well take her far in the game.

Link to comment

Wait! There's a guy with a gray beard named Savage getting tons of confessional time? <eyes roll>. Savage is just your normal alpha male that Probst love. Whereas Kelly isn't any of that. Her confessionals are soft spoken but not earth shattering. Looking at the bonus clips it looks like she isn't driving the story. Of course, if she made the Final 4, I would be pretty upset with the lack of airtime. And, if Savage only made it Top 5,6 or 7, I would be really upset but not surprised by ALL of his confessionals.

I was referring to the bonus clip of Kelly W. talking about the merge with my comment, so no assumptions necessary. :)

Just listened to Kelly's bonus clip on CBS.  What I got out of it was that the game is so different now, she's pretty lost out there, and thrilled not to have gotten booted yet.  I personally didn't hear anything that made me fell we're missing out on much from Kelly.

I mean yea she's not setting the world on fire with her confessionals, but neither is Savage and we have to hear from him like 300 times per ep. Even Spencer, whom I love, like we don't really need to hear every single thought he has, especially since they're often the same exact thing we've already heard from him. Or maybe they could've shown one Kelly confessional instead of the 10 we've had about Stephen being so awkward.

I agree, nothing in that Kelly confessional screamed "prime time" to me.  The chicken-freeing bonus clip, yes.

I have a feeling she'll be like Kass and before she goes, we'll get a Kelly-heavy ep or two.

Link to comment

Winston, any thoughts on when Kelly might go?  Seems to me there are much bigger fish to fry out there, so Kelly might stick around for some time still.

Or might not.  Hell, I don't know.  So many good players out there, with excellent abilities, this is a real confusing game.  i.e. a real great  game!

Some of the bonus clips this week:

-Kimmi said Wentworth was the easy vote and going home (ha!) and that she is purposely playing an UTR game.  She said it is to exploit any potential pawns down the road, but my guess is she'll wait too long and get booted before she can

-the secret scene was talking about the idol and voting for Wentworth.  They didn't think she had it because they figured she would have used it by now (not sure why, she wasn't really on the bottom before and Ta'Keo was on that winning streak before, then she got traded to Bayon before the merge).

-Joe talks about playing both alliances: giving hope to the minority of Abi/Kelley/Ciera, while using Ciera's words about taking out threats (like him) to his advantage.

There is a secret scene on CBS site where they discuss if Kelley has an idol and they don't think she does. If she did she would have used it on Kass.

I laughed because that makes no sense. If Kelly uses the idol on Kass, and the vote is split, then that person is gone. That person could have been her. All that Kelley could have done was force a tie and that would have led to her ally going home in the revote. So why the hell would she play the idol?

One of Tasha's clips ("Spencer Winning Is Great") talks about the fact that they all thought Joe had an idol, and she thought that the vote would split only between Joe and Abi.  It sounded like Joe going home wasn't 100% guaranteed, and Stephen mentioned on his twitter that Joe seemed somewhat calm back at camp and going to TC so they thought that was further evidence he had an idol.  Tasha said there hope was to flush his idol or any other idols that might be out there.  Certainly failed on that count.  Plus, Fishbach going home probably wasn't part of the plan.

Spencer's key to his immunity success?  He re-watched S30 for the fifth time and memorized in the puzzle.  He thought that Jeff might bring it back since they didn't use it last season.  I think I'm more impressed Spencer could watch S30 more than once.

Secret scene this week was Spencer getting sick after the RC.  Wonder if he still had that bug that had been going around camp (Joe said Spencer had it originally).

I liked Max's tweets in regards to that:

Max Dawson ‏@fymaxwell  4h4 hours ago
You can solve it in a moment Jeff? In Worlds Apart you told us it would take as long as the 52 piece jigsaw puzzle. #SURVIVOR

@theshirin @TheTFreddy @So_Kim @Joaqsworld @MamaC_14 Apparently we should have picked the five piece puzzle? #SURVIVOR

I thought the clip of Jeremy calling Spencer a nerd for memorizing that puzzle (which yeah, that's pretty hardcore nerd behavior right there and I suspect he memorized/studied a lot more challenges as well).

There were plenty of bonus clips of Jeremy talking about Stephen being a terrible athlete or commenting on his nerdier aspects, but there always seemed to be a fondness underneath that I really didn't see in his comments on Spencer. I don't think that alliance is nearly as strong as the one Jeremy had with Stephen.

It shouldn't be. Spencer backstabbed Stephen (and Jeremy)! I am a little surprise that Jeremy has been willing to still play with Spencer, and I think it's ultimately a credit to Jeremy that he is. The understandable emotional play would be to reject Spencer as untrustworthy, but Jeremy doesn't seem to have any connection to Keith or Kelley (or formerly Abi), so I agree that it's smarter for him to still play with Spencer.

I heard respect and fondness from Jeremy talking about Spencer being a nerd.  He was impressed by Spencer's forethought the puzzle would show up this season.  AND in awe of him recreating it with paper and memorizing it!  That dazzles me too.  Heads up future players, check out the puzzles.

I'm not sure Jeremy had much choice once Spencer backstabbed in and removed his right hand man Stephen. It was probably smart of Jeremy to jump to Spencer in the short term rather than paint a target on himself by declaring war on Spencer.

I didn't. With Stephen, he always sounded like he was chuckling at Stephen's pathetic challenge skills or superfan neuroses, but he sounded (to me*) like he thought Spencer was a little bit pathetic to invest that level of effort.

*Perhaps my reaction is colored by my own reaction to that admission. While I like Spencer just fine and would be fine with him winning, I can't help but think that he must have an awful lot of time on his hands to be able to devote that much time to an arcane piece of Survivor history (aka, a puzzle that was never used.) It doesn't seem possible that he just happened to pick the one exact puzzle of all puzzles that would be resurrected, he probably did a lot of these and got lucky that one of them worked out.

It was just last season that the puzzle was unused, though.  It made sense for it to reappear.  They always use puzzles.  They seemed proud of this one's difficulty and no one dared try it.  Why not bring it in for 'second chances'?

I thought Jeremy seemed disdainful of Stephen but amused at Spence-uh.

I recall clearly Spencer saying he felt as if he was being lied to by Jeremy and Stephen so I don't take Stephen's ouster as backstabbing.  Spencer felt threatened and responded accordingly.   Kimmi, Tasha, and Spencer were never fully "in" with Jeremy and Stephen.  They were second and sometimes 3rd tier.

All three have said / made moves that indicate an understanding of this.  Even as late in the game as this week, its clear they are not solid. Never have been.

It's a surprisingly hard tangram.

Do they use tangrams much?  I don't recall seeing them often.

Thanks for sharing this.   I've been watching this show since the beginning (missed a few seasons in the middle) and this week was the first time I ever wondered about how they came up with puzzles!  Tanagrams crossed my mind too.

That five piece puzzle was a tanagram and I know we have seen them before.

The one in the show was the 5-piece tangram in the video above, which is well-known for being a tough one.  I've tried to do that one in the past and couldn't figure it out.

Anybody else watch the Season 31 contestant clips recapping their "best" moment of Second Chances? (Best in quotes because several of them chose really bad moments, such as Joe, who chose himself passing out, Jeff V who chose the "we have a rat" moment, and Fishbach who chose his own vote-off.)

But my favorite so far has got to be Savage's, which is just such vintage Savage, it could have been written by someone on this board.

http://www.cbs.com/shows/survivor/video/uNAZs5lLUFM9MbMPYaJww40OUmJciMt_/andrew-savage-reflects-on-his-best-second-chance-moment/

Not only does he choose the "I was working with Playboy models when I met my supermodel wife..." moment that he got raked over the coals for here, but he tops himself with his comment about his waterworks.

He starts with "My buddies at home were all..." and I thought he was going to follow up with them ragging on him, but no, he finishes with "were all mad at me for setting the bar too high as a husband..."

Ugh, never change, Savage...

ETA: you have to be a CBS all access subscriber to see the video, if you are, log in to watch. :)
