The allegations of rape against Jameis are hardly obscure, going back nearly 10 years; FSU paid off the two known victims who came forward. Seriously I really didn't know. But it's hard to see that is a side (or was a side) of Jameis with all the love players ^ media show him. SA is NOT something to be brushed aside or classified as a mistake, however people do learn and grow. I spent one day (not a night, just a day) in jail as an adult. Luckily I was able to get my record expunged, but ever since my MIL blabbed to all hubby's siblings, I've been dead to them and they repeatedly trashed me to their children who in turn told OUR children. I couldn't even go to support hubby at his mother's funeral. So we ALL have done things we're ashamed of in the past. What's important is that we don't repeat them and that we learn from them. As @Careysaid, you can't compare the two. Two allegations in college compared to over 40 during an extended period? And I'm sorry, but we have heard about college women making things up to get back at young athletes to the point it ruined lives. Accusers shouldn't always be believed (unless there's a pattern or history) just becayse they're making an accusation. I'm hoping those allegations were just a misunderstanding and no blame on either side. Edited Yest. at 06:18 PM by roamyn 3 1 1 Link to comment
Carey 23 hours ago Share 23 hours ago Very well-put roamyn. I admire your post here. Pretty much my point that I planned to make, but I couldn't have said it better myself. I'll respond to it in better detail later (or not). Plus I did have a question unrelated. Quick fact: I am a fan of second chances. However, those for me aren't complimentary. 1 Link to comment

Brady is now saying that QBs should be panelized for sliding "late." Who decides what is late? Or just keep them upright and get gang tackled. Brady is an idiot. 4 1 Link to comment

I can't think who said this, it was on 'First Things First' yesterday, but they claim that teaching QBs to slide actually puts them in a more vulnerable position. I think if Trevor had just stayed upright, the hit wouldn't be viewed so bad. However, I don't think Demeeco should've come out in the media the way he did. 29 minutes ago, Carey said: About six weeks at least for the Niners sans CMC Just sit him for the rest of the season. 49ers aren't going anywhere so why risk it? 3 Link to comment

By the time he comes back, their season will be over. If it's six weeks, the 49ers would have to get to the Divisional Round or Championship weekend if it's six weeks from present time. The good news is that there isn't a clear leader in the NFC West. The bad news is that San Francisco sucks without him. Even if they were to win the division & a playoff game, they're probably going down to Philadelphia or someone from the NFC North. Of course, the latter would beat them in Levi Stadium this time around. Sure athletes heel faster, but he was already out earlier. He's done for 2024, period. Time to punt to 2025. Speaking of FS1 programming, someone said something about the Niners possibly being bad enough to draft another QB. One that's bigger, faster, stronger than Purdy, plus complimentary (as Brock is due to get paid) Link to comment

Fukui San 12 hours ago Share 12 hours ago I don’t know why Lawrence’s slide is getting as much pushback as it is when it’s pretty much textbook what they ask them to do. The defender was clearly in the wrong in a way that should not be at all controversial. There was a play in the Pats/Jets 2nd game, the one the Pats won behind Jacoby Brissett, where Drake Maye scrambled, got off balance, and then slid but got tackled and got a concussion which eventually got him pulled from the game. In that instance I can’t fault the defender as Maye was late and he has to learn to slide earlier. But Lawrence did it properly. 3 Link to comment

I'm hoping those allegations were just a misunderstanding and no blame on either side. I'm not trying to provoke an argument, but victims of sexual assault AREN'T believed as a rule, and statements like this are a big part of the problem because they absolutely do brush sexual assault aside and, in cases like this, cast it as more of a mistake on the part of these poor athletes who were just trying to get laid. For every college woman who makes things up to ruin a young athlete's life, which is a very specific scenario, there are thousands of unreported rapes. I feel like this should be common knowledge, but just in case: the conviction rate of sexual assault crimes is under 1%, and only around 6% of all allegations even result in an arrest. Meanwhile, close to 90% of sexual assault victims suffer physical and emotional consequences because of the assaults committed on them. Moreover, with the specific rape allegation against Winston in 2012, the woman who accused him of raping her didn't even know who he was at the time because he was a redshirt freshman and hadn't even played a game at FSU. She could only identify him a month after the fact when she happened to be in the same class as he the next semester and learned his name when the professor called roll, and the police naturally mishandled the investigation into Winston. She was not some honeytrap looking to make a buck off of the poor star football player, although that narrative (of course) endures twelve years later because Winston has quite a few incredibly powerful men and institutions behind him invested in crafting a specific narrative around him. 1 2 1 1 Link to comment

The defense tends to ease up in these instances since they don’t want to get penalized for unnecessary roughness, and it’s unfair to them. The rules are out there to protect the players, but sometimes it really is detrimental to the defense. With that being said, I don’t think Lawrence tried one of those fake plays and unnecessarily got hit in the head. 3 Link to comment

Carey 4 hours ago Share 4 hours ago Hard to believe that the missing team was the inaugural champion in the aftermath of the league restructure 22 years ago. Same thing can be said by the Raiders in the West. No a super big deal since all 8 teams in question were members of the East & West prior to 2002 Link to comment
