A little video of Colton and Emily dancing to Shake It Off

Oh, I think that's the video they posted last year, then very quickly pulled down. They're too funny and adorable. They really just seem to enjoy each other. I love that they have actual costume changes.

SA at WonderCon this past weekend (in the first video, he talks about how his reaction when people lie to him is to "flip his lid" and "go a little crazy" - lol)...

Thank you very much to everyone who contributed to the Ship Of The Year Award. My apologies that it took so long to put together a video. And ah... sorry that our characters broke up. :/

I figure they either had something else planned but decided to do this quick one instead because fandom is kind of ugly at the moment or they had nothing planned and decided to do this cause fandom is kind of ugly at the moment.

Cute vid tho. Love that they included DR.

For some reason I thought they weren't filming today.

That poster was obviously just rude, but that said, I'm not sure what segment of the show's fans Guggie thought he was pleasing with the manufactured melodramatic angst. I can't think of one single reviewer (since we're not supposed to talk about fandom sections) that was like "Ooh, baby mama drama causing a split...gimme!"

  • Love 2

Regardless of whether or not you are a hardcore shipper or not, does anyone promote the show as much as these fans do? So, even if they (imo) didn't really care about making the video, it will at least give the fans who are upset now something positive to talk about.

Love that DR is in it though...

This plus the death. Everyone is picking sides and then yelling at each other. Fandom is kind of ugh at the moment.

Hey, don't be mean to him. He uses all his time to come up with epic game changers. Sure people might hate it but do you know how much time it would take to come up with new word for press interviews. Therefore he continues with epic awesomeness that people dislike as long as he gets to keep his favorite words. ;-)

In all honesty, I think he believes it is a good storyline, God knows why.

I don't think he was trying to please anyone tbh. Just seems to me like a case of EPs thinking they need angst and breaking up then reuniting their popular couple in order to keep things interesting and create some buzz. Most shows seem to think they need to do that with their main couples. I kinda think they also wanted to get the kid thing they set up over with plus get their olicity break up so we got that mess.

Hopefully they learn olicity can be interesting to the audience when happy together and dealing with external issues instead of creating contrived drama for them.I do think this is the last break up we'll get and they'll keep them together in the future but we'll see, who knows.

I have to give Stephen props for at least pointing out how ridiculous people are being about all this. It reminds me of when he quite rightly put that one guy in his place for calling Felicity a bitch for even daring give Oliver the ring back. It's basically akin to him telling people to "Get a grip...it's just a show."

Yeah, Succinctly Salty Steve is my favorite Steve. Way better than Misogynistic Steve and Not all Texans Steve.

Thinking about Stephen's last video - do you think he finally addressed the state of some posts because it was that much uglier than any other time fandom was 'unpleasant', or because it was the latest of a long series of events and he finally decided to try and rein it in?

I think it was just the porn

Sorry that was a joke, during the video he say that he doesn't block anyone except... then he says he doesn't know how to get rid of the porn or why it ends up on his timeline.

Oh, okay, haha. I forgot he said that and for a moment I thought there was a serious issue instead of the usual spam accounts XD

Now, I don't want to spoil anyone too much, but praise be, Oliver seems to have a normal jacket on.

I've been a fan of his page for a while and this has been the most I've seen hate against one of his co-stars. Not saying this because I'm not a fan of KC but, there has never been this much hate on someone else's page that I've seen. It seems like mostly men who are being dicks against Emily also. Like she dictates the way the show goes. Most of the people doing the hating have clearly stated after they were pressed by other fans that they are only pissed because he's not with Laurel.

Which is hilarious because they are screaming "stop the romance" when that's all they want to.

I have a feeling that they might have planned something else, but wanted to put out at least something given the reactions with 416. No confirmation or anything, but the video definitely seemed last minute and nothing really like a planned video that SA was talking about.

  • Love 3

IIRC, there was some quote by someone (maybe one of the EPs?) some time ago about how they thought hate was better than apathy - in other words, as long as the show is creating social media buzz, it's all good (in their eyes).  Passion was preferable to apathy.

Correction: it was said by SA during a 2014 Nerd HQ panel (see last 3 minutes of video)...

-- In response to fan asking about his reaction to Oliver's "questionable choices", SA responded that he went to the producers and asked if Oliver could not bed every single female he's not related to on the show.  SA then said: "I'm all for making questionable choices because, in truth, I don't care if people love Oliver Queen or hate him. I just don't want them to be indifferent. And as long as they're not indifferent, I'm fine with whatever's happening... The opposite of love is not hate, Zach. It’s apathy."

BTW, it's not the first time that SA has used that quote.  Back in 2012, he used it in two different interviews (Collider, TV Guide)...

Oliver has had a lot of turmoil in his life and it seems like he’s only getting peace through the Arrow. Are there going to be any other outlets where he makes peace?
AMELL: Not yet.  Our director on the pilot said when he was talking about one of the scenes, it’s not his quote but it’s a good one, that the opposite of love is not hate, it’s apathy.  All he’s got right now is hate and rage and we haven’t even gotten into the mythology of what happened on the island. He didn’t go from pre-island Oliver Queen to Arrow. He went from pre-island Oliver Queen to nothing, and then he had to be built back up.

And of course, you'll have Black Canary at some point. How will the relationship between Laurel (Katie Cassidy) and Oliver develop?
Amell: As the director of our pilot always said, the opposite of love is not hate, it's apathy. Laurel hates Oliver. She's not indifferent to him. He loves her. He's just afraid of what could happen to her if people that were out to get Arrow found out about his feelings toward her. I'd be amazed if there weren't a few more chapters in the Oliver-Laurel love book.

I agree with him in theory -- the worst thing that can happen to a story arc is nobody caring either way -- see the flashbacks this season, and the fact that they didn't even do their usual flashback-heavy episode, because NOBODY CARES.

But when a story arc gets reviled based heavily on misogyny and internalized sexism, that is not at all a reaction that's interesting for the creatives.

  • Love 15

I don't think they're gonna adjust the story, no, mostly because there's not that much time to do it -- they're filming 422 and prepping 423. But since they're aware of the sexist read on the break up -- Guggenheim admitted on Twitter to having read that ~open letter~  [which was one of the most blatant cases of internalized sexism I've ever read in my life] -- I have hope they realize that's a specifically BAD audience reaction, that shouldn't affect change.

I also think creatives take a much more simplistic approach to dealing with audience reaction than fandom does. Ultimately, O/F breaking up got a negative reaction, and that tells the network and the showrunners that the audience prefers the couple together.

Which they are planning on executing anyway, so will you look at that -- a negative reaction to O/F breaking up agrees with their masterplan.
