S10.E19: Anna's Having a.....

I agree, they could've come with a lot of diapers.

And the Duggars look like they don't do much with charity. On Camera. The soccer balls in El Salvador and didn't they do some fish fry thing? Somone mentioned a laundry event. The giant garage sale wasn't too bad. They certainly have been filmed doing some lame charity events. We all know they are out of story lines. The bear was some corny joke.

In real life, we just don't know the full story. For all we know, they could be very charitable with money. I always hesitate to assume too much with money and donations.

I have often been surprised. The ones you expect to be cheap and the ones you expect to be charitable...sometimes they don't match up.

I don't know how to feel about that Giant Load-of-Crap Sale. Of course, the Arkansas Children's Hospital did gain $18K or whatever it was. But I wonder if Boob would have taken all the time and trouble to get everything organized for the sale if A - he wasn't getting his warehouses cleared out quite a lot and B - a nice fat tax deduction for himself in the bargain. A deduction paid for with other people's $$. After all, it's not like HE wrote a check to the hospital on his account. And I know many, many people take advantage of tax deductions when donating to charities. It's completely legal and fine and everybody wins - the charity, the taxpayer etc. I guess I'm just waiting to see if the Duggars ever do anything meaningful for others where they don't get anything for themselves as well. They've shown virtually everything else they do. Why would they not show instances where are they being charitable to others? Aren't they supposed to be "encouraging"us heathens to be more God-like?

Wasn't there an episode where they "folded" laundry at a Laundromat for charity? Michelle just stood there holding clothes in her hand but did no actual work (surprise, surprise ). Jim Bob, IIRC, made some snarky comment about how poor people can't afford washers and dryers so they must use the ebil, socialist Laundromat. OK so I exaggerated a bit, but that was the gist of what he said.

Ha! Ha! I remember that episode. I was struck that MEchelle wasn't just displaying her usual laziness, but she actually stood there with a garment in her hands and literally had no idea how to go about folding it. Very telling scene.

I noticed the absence of the curtain from Anna on the front door. Ha!

That's what they want you to believe. I imagine they painted a few for the cameras. When you look at pics of the lawn, too many of the  blue ones were perfect.

That's the same thing I thought. It makes you wonder why she didn't just order blue ones in the first place, but then they wouldn't have had their contrived plot of Boob and the boys dunking flamingos because they couldn't find their sprayers. Really, the whole Sierra concept baffles me. What is the deal with pretending she's some kind of party genius because she knows how to tell people to hang decorations? Do they pay her? I guess TLC probably paid for the flamingos, but otherwise, that is really impractical and wasteful. Not to mention stupid -- the ground was frozen solid. I would have been dying of embarrassment and certainly would have told the guys not to bother, that drilling 200 holes for plastic flamingos in the ground was a waste of time and we'd just simplify the decorations.

The old "damned if they do, damned if they don't" with the Duggars strikes again. The women at that shelter are pregnant/have babies while homeless with literally nothing, seem to be getting room and board for free, and because Josh didn't make it rain, he's a prick. Yeah, the whole scene looked incredibly shoehorned in and fake ("well as a matter of fact, I have a giant kids' toy in my car"), but at least he gave something. Josh's own kids likely would have loved the bear, and probably would have been mature enough to say thank you, too.

I don't think anyone expects them to fund this shelter, but a small monetary donation would have been nice, or even a case of diapers.  I'm sure the bear was appreciated, but not particularly practical.  It reminds me of a guy I know who is a stand-up comedian (and a darn funny one - he's funnier than a lot of the big name people I've forked out big money to see over the years) and everyone tells him how funny he is, and how he needs to put a DVD out.  So he finally decided to do it, and put out a Kickstarter to help fund it.  For a $25 donation, you get the DVD when it's done.  And where are all of the people now who wanted him to do this?  Nowhere to be found.  They're also not buying tickets for the show itself.  I'm hoping this doesn't ruin him, as I think he is a millimeter away from becoming a household name.  It was nice that Josh and Anna "showed up", but while they don't need to "make it rain", they could have done something more practical.

Add me to the group that thinks Sierra is useless.  The Flamingo idea was ok, but there were too many, and painting half was just stupid.  If you couldn't get blue flamingos, then try something else.  Too much manufactured drama around that one.  I know a few years back, I was getting all kinds of spam e-mail soliciting me to take a course in party planning from some place - the same kind of spammy e-mails I'd get about being a home stager a few years earlier.  Maybe she has a certificate in party planning from the Hollywood Upstairs School Of Medicine and Party Planning, Class of Tuesday, 4:30 pm.

I think Sierra is added for comic relief. They don't want to use one of the actual Duggars, because that might make them look clownish (yes, I know, but I don't believe THEY think they ever look clownish) so they need a stand in.

That makes sense. In previous seasons Amy fulfilled that role but now that she's no longer on the show they need a replacement. I get the vibe that Sierra hates being stuck at home with all her kids and the Duggars provide a modicum of excitement in an otherwise dull life.

If it had dawned on this genius that it was actually storks she wanted - and not flamingoes !!! - she wouldn't have had to paint anything at all. Storks are often white - and there was enough pink and blue crap around already.

This is the one episode still available on my OnDemand (Snohomish County,Washington). I have never yet made it through an entire Duggar episode but tonight I thought I would try this one, sort of as a last hurrah. From reading here and on TWOP over the years, I find I am still way too familiar with these people and their nonsense. I turned this off when my headship...I mean spouse awoke from his couch nap just in time for Josh's blurred ass whizzing by on a trapeze. I found myself starting to point out the "DEFRAUDING," and managed to stifle myself (Gothard would be proud) in time, as I realized the hub would think I had slipped a cog.

Speaking of Gothard, I read today that he is 80??? And seriously, he claims he has never kissed a girl? So I am sure he has no issues at all that gave rise to his insane religious philosophy. Sorry for the OT. I was just a bit gobsmacked.

PS: I missed the gender reveal. Dang.

I know, "girl" not even "I've never kissed a woman." Somehow that just capped off the weirdness for me.
