VioletNevermind May 4, 2015 Share May 4, 2015 This episode was pretty good. I thought the man (I never remember anyone's names) was very enterprising and inventive. His charcoal water filtration system seemed to work well. I did wonder why the woman didn't pitch in with the bow drill so that he could rest in between attempts to start a fire. Surely she could have done more than just hold the bottom of the bow drill with her foot. Link to comment
Scorpiosunshine May 4, 2015 Share May 4, 2015 When the narrator said something about Luke's inventions failing and listed those as a negative, I sort of pshawed. He had some really great on-the-fly ideas! Ingenuity scores a lot of points in my book. Over time,he most likely could have perfected some of those traps and ideas. Just being able to think fast like that and come up with clever traps and filters etc. would be conducive to survival in a true naked and afraid situation. 1 Link to comment
Kelda Feegle May 4, 2015 Share May 4, 2015 That guy just kept on going with his inventions - I see that as a positive, no real despondency just a good attitude. 4 Link to comment
Taylorh2 May 4, 2015 Share May 4, 2015 (edited) Take a fire starter. You'll just have to take chance that the other doesn't doesn't pick it as their 'one thing' Edited May 4, 2015 by Taylorh2 Link to comment
ari333 May 4, 2015 Share May 4, 2015 Jesus take a lighter/fire starter people, and a pot ... as mentioned. The axe is a good third item. Link to comment
LAgator77 May 4, 2015 Share May 4, 2015 The axe is a good third item. Was there a third item this episode? Either everyone gets a third item, or no one does. I think N&A has proved no matter how good you think you are at making fire, just bring a fire starter, because it's not so easy in the elements. This episode was... Kinda boring? No fault of the participants. They were both likable and well prepared. It just seemed like nothing happened. Why did it take them 19 days to decide to hunt for crabs at night? I wonder if they get a dossier from the producers about their location. When they say something like "these crabs are nocturnal" it just sounds like a prepared statement. 2 Link to comment

No. But I think there were 3 in other episodes. I just meant that the axe, hatchet, would be my third choice if there were one. Link to comment
Kelda Feegle May 5, 2015 Share May 5, 2015 I didn't see or hear of a third item plus they did do the 'introduce my item' speech this episode - consistency is not a strong point in this season's production. Link to comment
niklj May 5, 2015 Share May 5, 2015 On the Facebook page, a future contestant said that some people got three items and some got two. I guess they aren't being very consistent on that rule. I liked this episode, though I didn't get a good feel for their relationship since they didn't comment too much about the other. More about the bugs and the hunger situation. But it was pleasant, which was fine. The nocturnal hunting for the crabs was new and it was kind of funny/sad to see that guy's traps keep failing. 1 Link to comment

Liberty May 6, 2015 Share May 6, 2015 Alyssa was one of the most pleasant and effective participants ever. Her attitude of 'if this doesn't work, something else will', was always positive and led to solutions. 5 Link to comment
pagooey May 6, 2015 Share May 6, 2015 I don't understand why more of the survivalists--especially those with Luke's "invention-a-day" persona--don't, like, invent themselves some SHOES. We've seen people weave some basic flip-flops before! Not that I'd ever volunteer for this show because it's my worst nightmare, but I'm a huge baby tenderfoot. The very first pointy thing I trod upon, I'd be DONE--clinging to the tailgate of the jeep or whatever, pants still around ankles probably. 4 Link to comment
KidHorn May 8, 2015 Share May 8, 2015 I thought there was a rule about making clothes. Although many have covered their tender areas and feet with big leaves. I liked both participants. The girl had a good overall attitude. The guy kept coming up with inventions. Most of them failed, but the water filter was crucial. He had too many hissy fits for my taste. Link to comment
Princess May 9, 2015 Share May 9, 2015 Well many people call this show "Faked and Afraid" (not me !) because of those survival items. At the beginning of the series the narrator tells us that each guest can bring one item. Apparently the narrator has never watched this show. It seems unlikely that the guests choose some of those items, They are probably a gift from the production crew. Quite often they get a fire starter, now if you could take 1 Item of your stuff, would you take that piece of junk? I'd bring a fire starter but it would be this thing I saw the plumber use. A propane torch that you light by opening the valve and pushing the start button. If that wet wood would not burn for Me, I would MAKE it burn. 1 Link to comment
Princess May 9, 2015 Share May 9, 2015 Really, just don't listen to anything the narrator says. That 3rd item you asked about 'Gator, that was probably a diva cup. This an unmentionable womans item that you will never see a woman using. I certainly wouldn't take me 19 days to look for crabs. Where we live, we don't hunt for food, the food hunts for us. I just wade around in the water and a crab will pinch me. If you have the right tool with you , you can GET the crab before it escapes. Link to comment
Princess May 9, 2015 Share May 9, 2015 The thing you have to remember is that they are there for 21 days and there is less than an hour of time on TV. The editor snips tiny bits of this footage and assembless these into a show. Most of what happened will not make the final cut, more than one of the guests has said that they are not as lazy or stupid as they appear to be on the show. Well if a guest wants to look good on the show, then he should keep his mouth shut, unless he ahs some thing nice to say, and get some cordage and make a fishing net out of that, or just look like you are doing that so you will always have something in your hands. 1 Link to comment
Princess May 9, 2015 Share May 9, 2015 "This episode was... Kinda boring? No fault of the participants. They were both likable and well prepared. It just seemed like nothing happened." I wouldn't say that nothing happened, I think that what happened seemed a lot like the things that happened in other shows, so I can see why you would find this episode kinda boring. I think they should do something different in the next series so you won't have this problem. Can you think of anything new they could do in the next season? My guess is have a celebrity edition. While I don't think celebrities will sign on for such a challenging ordeal as what these people have, There are so many things that could be done to the 21 days pleasent. Like make 14 days, or even less. I would think that some of the people in this forum have a particular celebrity they would have liked to have seen on one of those Islands 1 Link to comment
Princess May 9, 2015 Share May 9, 2015 Another thing that would make this show more interesting is some of those mosquito traps and some other anti-mosquito devices that are now on the market This is something that many people in the audience need to learn something about. 1 Link to comment

JackKnife July 6, 2015 Share July 6, 2015 2-3 items ? I thought that each person was only allowed to bring 1 item ? Close. Every person GETS one item. They're allowed to bring a few iterms with them but the producers determine which one is placed in the bags when the meet up with their partners. In case you're wondering how they've been so lucky after 30+ episodes to never have two people both bring fire-starters or knives. :) That aired last season, it was more of a joke episode than anything. There was also a funny bit on The Ellen Show where they but Kristen Bell - clad in a flesh body stocking- through a mock jungle on their stage. Link to comment
