I don't think he wanted to keep working and doing surgeries.   I bet he still owns the office and practice though.   I think he's only been doing direct patient appointments, and hospital visits for the 600 lb patients.    He's 80 now, and deserves to enjoy life more.

New show is produced by his son's production company Megalomedia, and they do a ton of other shows.

Here's an excerpt describing the show from the previous poster, babyhouseman:

"follows 10 morbidly obese individuals, who have collectively reached a combined weight of 6,000 pounds, and are fighting to lose it and transform their lives. Set at Dr. Now’s medical facility in Houston, the 10-episode, two-hour long series, features first-hand diary footage from the people who have reached a lose-or-die point in their lives."

I don't think he wanted to keep working so hard,  and doing surgeries.   I'm sure he still owns the office and practice though.   I think he's only been doing direct patient appointments, and hospital visits for the 600 lb patients.    He's 80 now, and deserves to enjoy life more.   They also remodeled the office early in the year, so that's why it looks different in the trailers.

New show is produced by his son's production company Megalomedia, and they do a ton of other shows.     It's 10 episodes, 2 hours each, Mondays from 8 to 10 pm central time.

Yes, Justin, his Where are they Now was combined with Maja from Oregon.  They pair a train wreck with a success story.   Justin took his new chance at a healthy life with doing all of the things he wanted to do and never could.  Learning to fly, kajaking, and I think skydiving.

Maja....and Chris-shun!!!!  Every time I hear the song "Sister Christian" I am tempted to sing it as "Sister Chris-shun".

Ryan from Montana was my motivation at 3am this morning as I got ready for the gym.  You remember Ryan.  Doing curls with the keg of soda & all the claims of "I've been working hard" only to see the humongous scale at the weigh-in center show an error message.  Denial isn't just a river in Egypt.

Unlike Ryan (who wouldn't know a gym if it hit him over the head) I had a great chest & triceps workout.  If any of this is attributed to my annoyance/disgust at Ryan....well I owe him a tip of the cap.

I was raised in a household where we were pretty strict with grammar, so it bugs me every time someone says something like "Me and John are going to see Dr. Now...."  That's not the way compound subjects work!

Also, a less important nitpick is that there is no such thing as "healthy food".  Food doesn't get sick.  The correct term is "healthful food".  But virtually everyone makes that mistake so I give it a pass.

I am shocked.   I just saw an ad on TLC for a new season of My 600 lb Life, 1 January, on TLC.     I'm wondering if it's still with Dr. Now, and if they're years old?

I just saw the trailer for the next season, S13.E01,  1 January 2025 7 to 9 pm central, 8 to 10 eastern.    They showed Dr. Now.

With the Lifetime 6000 lb Diaries coming for 10 episodes on Mondays starting 6 January, this should be interesting.

Mine too but since a close family member went through an eating disorder, I have abandoned the term(s) altogether. I have instead adopted an "all foods fit" mantra. "Bad" food is food that is spoiled or contaminated. All foods have value; even foods whose most redeeming feature is that they are fun to eat.

Granted the poundticipants on this show really need to restrict intake, but once you get sensitive to the term "healthy (healthful) food" you realize how common it is.

I saw the commercial too. I thought with the Lifetime show, the TLC show was gone. Like you said, they showed the doctor. They also showed overweight people. Maybe Now can have 2 shows?

I think he maybe is going to have just the one show but it looks like he is working with another doctor and maybe the format will be different? Maybe the episodes won't each focus on one poundticipant but will show them all at the beginning and then all in the different stages?

Mostly I think that, for whatever reason, Dr. Now has jumped the TLC ship and is on Lifetime and they gave the show a slightly different name. They will change it just enough but I think it's basically the same thing, sliced a little differently (pardon the pun).

I had a bunch of 600lb Lives queued to record that were marked New, but they’re repeats.  So annoying.

They've been splitting the two hour episodes into Part 1 and Part 2, and labeling them as new, to get extra viewers.

However, this show comes back for Season 13 on 1 January, with Jonathan, so new stuff is close.

My on-demand episode listing for this show has the first episode of season 13 marked as season 12, and all the season 12 repeats marked as New. Lol.  Its bad enough they keep adding commercials to on-demand that you can't fast forward through. Now, they're purposely mis-labeling shows so when you do 'Record all-new episodes only' you get a slew of repeats. Dirty tricks.

Anyway, looking forward to new episodes. Hope we get some successes, or, at least, entertaining failures. My dream is a whole season without the constant, loud, sad piano endlessly playing over the whole thing.

I have been binge watching this recently, after not watching for about 4 years.  Because of this, the show invades my dreams.

You know how Dr. Now says that "weight loss surgery is not a magic pill"?  I had a dream last week that I had convinced Rick Sanchez (of Rick and Morty fame) to develop a magic pill that would make people thin.  He was reluctant at first, but agreed to do it out of spite for Dr. Now.

Just watched the beginning of his new show, 6000lb Diaries, and it seems it's mostly filmed by hand held cameras which makes for a shaky viewing for me. I get motion sick easily. So, not sure I can watch this one.  I have a new appreciation for the professional camera peeps and editors.  The music is better tho, a lot less depressing lol

OK, I looked and 600 lb is running on schedule, supposedly new and Season 13, but the shows are actually numbers for Season 12.  The office hasn't been redecorated, and the shows follow the same scripts.     I suspect they were filmed a couple of years ago.

6000 lb Diaries ran last monday, but no longer appears on Lifetime network schedules, they're obviously filmed recently, because office is redecorated, and Dr. Now has a goatee.     I'm wondering if there are contractual disputes with TLC's network over the Lifetime show?

One day this past week as I was pedaling my fat butt off on my Peloton at 3am I watched a Where Are They Now episode but cannot recall the guy's name.  He was back in Houston for a skin removal discussion & Dr Now advised his 100 lbs overweight wife to be careful not to allow her eating to effect his.  She got all pissy & stormed out of the room but not before telling Dr Now "we are here for "name" and not me".  Afterwards a black screen with writing was displayed stating "wife name" told "husband name" if he continued with the program she would leave him.

What a selfish piece of crap.  Husband works his ass off, doctor does the right thing telling wife she needs to lose weight (maybe to avoid all the health issues which go with being overweight to that degree) and that's what she comes out with?  Cry me a river princess.  Get your butt on the Stairmaster, suck it up, realize the doctor has 50 years of medical experience, and finally, if you are going to be a big baby.....don't let the door hit you in your jumbo-size backside.

Mess up your life, not his.

That was S08:E05 WATN Octavia and Aaron.

The girlfriend or wife was named Ashley.     This was the second time a wife/girlfriend said the partner who qualified for skin removal should not have it done, and was blatantly eating stuff not on the diet in front of the partner.

The other was Vianey and Allen. (Vianey died fall of 2024, I think of pneumonia, about the time Ricky's sister Sharon, of Lacey from Washington died, I think of pneumonia also.   Allen moved on to dating Angie J.)
