I don't have an issue with Danneel being on the show.  I think a good majority of the fans have been clamoring for it to happen for years now.  The shows winding down so why not?  I'll actually be surprised if her character has any sort of romantic tie to Dean.  Based on her character's description, it appears that she's going to catch Lucifer's eye more than anyone else.  I think it'll be fun.  And I think it's a recurring role in the back half of the season, not just one episode, so we should get a variety of writers.

iTunes released a new special feature today: "Into the Apocalypse: A World Without The Winchesters"

It was heavily focused on the production aspects but also included story elements (see "DVD and other media" thread after this for the full, non-spoilers, bits).

Spoilers:

Quote

Mark P: "Anything is possible. And redemption for even the most unredeemable character (*points to self*) in the history of humankind, (*pause*) maybe that's possible.

Eugenia:"We'll see some kind of struggle between the worlds." regarding Michael coming wanting to come through the rift.

I sure hope Lucifer redemption is a fake out because ... bleech.  Otherwise, excellent little featurette on the 'how to's'

I sure hope his redemption arc is a fake. Please, why can't they show kill and stick to big bads and villains staying dead like the earlier seasons. But the fact that Mark P is a regular, I guess him sticking around means he will have to turn more likeable and good. *sigh* predictable.

I’m gonna be super cautious and put this in here (due to the soon to be in the same room bit)

I’m going to amend my statement to @catrox14 . I’d rather Cas romantically involved with anyone who is not Dean, Sam, Lucifer or Ketch! LOL

I'd love an episode - or maybe an opening segment - of the brothers out shopping for clothes.  (Would be more interesting than "Any news on ?".... "No but here's a job for us".)

Love those cool longer trenchcoats on the boys.

I have to say I'm very surprised by this news, especially with one year old twins.  They must be a handful.  But I'm sure she has babysitting well in order.  I doubt it's a big role.   It'll be interesting to see her in scenes with hubby.

She is a brave girl.  Fans can be brutal.

That's probably one of the reasons that she finally took the job. Sometimes stay at home moms need to get some grown-up time back and she was an actress for some time before she met Jensen. I'm sure she probably misses it as much as she probably loves staying home with her kids according to her tweets and instagrams. Plus, she might have the added bonus of seeing her hubby more or he might have some time with the kids. He might have asked the PTB for her to get her out of the house awhile while at the same time getting her name out there again in case the show is ending that way they have double the chance of one of them landing the next role. She could get acting jobs while he has the kids and the Family Business.

I never watched Kumar and whoever (Harold?) or One Tree Hill as those aren't my type of shows but I liked her and thought she was good in "Ten Inch Hero" and "The Roommate" so I'm glad she's getting this chance. In addition, I'm getting to see her on a show that I like, especially since I never thought she'd do this with all the hate she already gets. Of course, she'll get the hate either way because of delusional, jealous, petty people. Just wish she had a better writer to introduce her and wish she wasn't attached to Luci. Personally, not sure if I'd want her as a "love interest" for Dean either. I'd like her to have a strong character role, either good or evil, like Abbadon or some of the early season female guest stars, the Bender's sheriff, Layla, etc.

IOW, I'm cautiously excited about this. *fingers crossed and trying to be optimistic*

This is a very good point. I've read before about celeb couples that switch off on being the stay at home parent between gigs. He's had a long run & who knows how much longer the show will last. He'd probably enjoy the break IMO.

I also think it's just a fun thing.  This show is unlike most other shows, and there is very much a family atmosphere.  They all know each other's families and some have even worked together before...Cas and Rob in Danneel's case.  Fans have been asking when she was going to be on the show for years.  Why not now?  Even if she's in 3 or 4 episodes, each episode takes about 8 days to shoot, depending on how many scenes she will have.  And if they're not back-to-back episodes, it's not like she'll be shooting for months.  She'll do a week here or there over the course of the next few months, and it actually means spending more time with her husband, not less.  I hope it's as much fun as possible for them.

I'm assuming that someone called Sister Jo is a nun, which would automatically eliminate the possibility of a romance.  I know she doesn't necessarily have to be a nun, but that would make things easier for them.  It takes her being Dean's love interest right off the table.

I think it is stunt casting and actually would not be surprised if it was the other way around from what people speculate. Namely, not that Jensen wanted her on the show per se but the producers wanted to and they needled about it. Because come on, this is exactly up their alley.

Now going by TV stunt casting logic, I do not see her as a love interest for Dean. Not even remotely. Either they will share a scene onscreen or they will have antagonistic vibes. I remember back when Brad Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston and he was on Friends, he was the guy who in-show hated her character Rachel. Because that is the in-joke you do. Equally, back when Sandy was dating Jared, she was the Crossroads demon he killed. Genevieve was different because she was the hook-up onscreen before she became the wife offscreen.

But rule of thumb, you cast a real life spouse like that, you do everything and anything BUT have a hook-up onscreen.

As for a Lucifer redemption arc? That is also right up the producers` alley so it`s probably happening. Cue lots of confused reactions later when it doesn`t go over so well with fans. Like, who could have foreseen?

Not a Catholic, but I don't think nuns usually use nicknames (don't they usually take names of saints?)  If she's supposed to be a faith healer, I think it's more like "Brother Love" or other show-type names used to draw in the believers.

You make a good point.  I got caught up with the "Sister" part.  I still doubt they'll make her a romantic interest for Dean, but I guess we'll need to wait and see.  Honestly, it wouldn't bother me if they did.  It's not like they're going to marry him off.  It would still end when her story arc ends.  Just make it interesting.

You are aware BuckLeming wrote an (awful) episode whose entire plot revolved around a nun's past love life ? She turned out to be insane, but still.

There's zero reason to trust these writers with a good-looking female character. The last one they introduced in an episode of theirs, Lucifer literally tricked her into fucking with him.

You're making it sound like it wasn't her choice.  And it's not like she was pure and chaste before; she got to choose what she wants to do, when, and why.  I'm frankly insulted on the character's behalf at the way you phrased this.

Well, what would Lucifer want with a faith healer?  Is he still looking to get his mojo back? If she's a faith healer and actually heals people, where does her power come from?  The implication is her faith in God allows God to work miracles through her, with the whole "Sister Jo".  It's possible she's a witch, a 'natural', just hiding her skills as a miracle from God. If she actually heals and her powers are demonic in nature, nothing there is going to 'fix' Lucifer.  If she's actually getting miracles from God, how exactly is that working?  That would certainly be intriguing to Lucifer as he thinks God is not remotely involved.  And Angels don't have wings so they can't be hiding behind her. Unless she IS an Angel just fronting as a 'Faith Healer'.  Like back in S9, when the Angels were giving out minor miracles in the local hospital.  THAT probably has the most likelihood.  But she's getting attention to herself -- like 'Emmanuel' did.  Real juice attracts others with real juice.  So, is she the 'real deal' and her reputation is gaining because others are talking or is she essentially using her powers not as a free gift but as an income source for a tent revival.  That won't sit well with Cas.  And would a fallen angel actually NEED money?  They don't eat or sleep.

And will her storyline cross with Michaels or just Lucifer?

Eh, I didn't like the episodes depiction of chastity being a bad thing which basically every character broke. I'm not trying to say everyone should be chaste, but it is a valid life style if someone wants to live that way. And therefore I didn't like the episodes depiction of misguided woman goes chaste until the charming big strong man comes along and sleeps with her offering sexual liberation.

Youre free to feel insulted if you want. It wasn't my intention but I am entitled to my opinion whether it's one you agree with or not.

And she actually came on to Dean. I suspect if anyone else had told her what Dean did and was as good looking as Dean, she would have done the same thing. So I  don't think it was Dean's magical sex appeal at work.  I mean if he had that kind of power, he wouldn't be the butt of dad bod jokes and other humor related to his age and flagging sex appeal.

Again, I didn’t like the overall message of the episode. That chastity is a bad thing (pretty much everyone broke it) and all one needs is the big strong man (in this case Dean, but arguably a good looking guy in general) to come along and make you feel good about yourself and sexually liberate you.

Im not trying to be mr preachy “casual sex is wrong”. I’ve never judged anyone on or off show for the lifestyle they live. I’m simply saying that the decision to be chaste and wait till marriage, or for a lifetime as a part of ones religious faith as with nuns, is also a  perfectly valid choice that some people may wish to make and I didn’t like this episodes pretty much black and white depiction of it.

I was thinking she maybe was an angel too, but maybe doesn't know it? Like Anna when we first met her or Cass when he was resurrected in S7. I was wondering it'll be she doesn't know Lucifer on sight--because she doesn't know she's an angel and such--and they become besties until it's revealed to her who he and she really is? Or something like that...

This. The fact that a woman chose to break her vow of abstinence 5 minutes after the manly hero showed up sent a fucking awful message. The way the scene was made was disgusting as well, it was all about giving Dean his pornstar trophy and we were supposed to find that oh-so-funny. After the deal was done, she pretty much disappeared and stop getting dialogue.

That this episode was written by a woman makes everything even more icky.

Back on topic though I'm not even sure Danneel will get to interact with Jensen. And there's enough to be worried about her meeting Lucifer considering what has become of the character and who is writing the episode.

I think the episode was calling out the hypocrisy of the idea of 'born again virginity' not the idea of of living a celibate life by choice. It was more about the needless shame and judgment from others and towards oneself. Dean didn't liberate her because she did that herself for herself in the past. The only thing Dean did was not shame her for her past, which is what she thought everyone at her church would do if they knew who she really was. It's not like she was some swooning damsel who wasn't deciding for herself about her choices. Just like doing porn had been and just like stopping had been her choice, her jumping Dean's bones was her choice and solely her choice.

I think whatever they do with Sister Jo it will likely fall under the 'mock, debase, or abuse Dean' in some way and will be spun as "woman power" and that "womanizer" Dean is gonna get what's coming to him. I don't see them playing it as a boon for Dean.

Heck she might end up being a faith healer for Sam in the end since Dean's story already had him seeing a faith healer in s1, the flip would be Sam seeking a faith healer.

My opinion is that Sister Jo will be a Satanist or something like it..maybe even a demon. And Lucifer goes to her so she can heal him. That's my official spec.

We can agree to disagree on the episode. I consider it a horrible, unbalanced episode for reasons I gave and what @BoxManLocke added and you don’t. One final thing I willing add, and don’t expect a response to, is that I just don’t think this show sends out a balanced message. Another example is Paint it Black where the nuns were pretty much depicted as only being there due to a decision to flee every day life after having their hearts broken rather than being there because it was a lifestyle they truly believed in. IMO this show likes to send out the message “Casual sex = good, healthy and normal. Chastity = bad, repressive, unhealthy and questionable”, which I highly dislike because I consider both options valid choices.

I do find the idea of Sister Jo as a satanist rather interesting tho :)

From Paint it Black:

DEAN: I got a question. How does someone, uh, like you end up, you know…?

SISTER MATHIAS: Cloistered away from the world? [Chuckles] Are you making fun of me, Agent Allman?

DEAN: No. No, No. I, Uh… I guess I’m just wondering how somebody quits one life for something completely different and – and then believe in it so much.

IMO that's more admiring than mocking.

And that goes to Dean's "confession".

I just think Dean's had the beats of being attended to by a faith healer in s1 so whatever happens with Sister Jo won't likely have anything to do with Dean and if it does I think it won't be positive for Dean. JMHO.

@MysteryGuest I can't see the show giving Dean a meta happy ending with his SO being played by his RL wife. That would piss of Jared/Sam fans IMO who would be like, why does Dean get his happy ending with his RL wife but Sam doesn't get Ruby. And if they brought back Ruby and made her a good person for Sam to be with, then that just makes his whole Ruby arc pointless.

So IMO for that reason alone I don't see it happening. JMHO.

@Wayward SonIf they put Sister Jo with any part of TFW they are asking for trouble IMO

I had hoped that the AU would be something like the final episode of Seinfeld.  Everyone that had ever been cast shows up as an AU version of their character.

I guess it would blow the budget tho. ;)

Having the 4 of them ride off into the sunset would be more than bit strange.  I don't want that, either.  But I also don't want to watch either of them die for real, so if that's endgame, I just won't watch.

I fully expected we'd see him again.  Otherwise, his appearance last year made no sense.  I'll be very surprised if he doesn't have scenes with Mary, since he did have a relationship with her in the AU (not sexual, just friendship).  At least I'm hoping for at least one scene of them talking.  But I'm a Bobby fan.  He's the one character I wish they'd never killed off.

Well there are what 15 more episodes in this season. They could do a rogue's gallery of everyone. That said, I think the AU is gonna be a thing to the end of the series.

I was and I cried when he died.  But then they kept bringing him back in various forms which I didn't like.

I'd rather they'd kept Bobby around and never introduced the bunker.  I liked Bobby's messy cluttered cozy house.  It worked as a meeting place. I liked that Bobby was head hunter honcho and that he portrayed a sense of a "Hunter Community" and gave the brothers a history.  I liked that he knew so much and helped with research and had a warded dungeon in the basement.  I cried even louder when they burned his house down.

The cold grey bunker doesn't work for me at all.  And they rarely utilize the wealth of knowledge there (from what we see), plus the place has a revolving front door (that clangs).

Bringing this over from Public appearances:

Quote

I can't fathom anyone involved would have her in a sex scene with either of Jensen's close friends.

I would be really surprised if the character will have a sex scene with anyone. The show is not really big on that. When was the last really onscreen sex scene we saw? Demon!Dean and Anne-Marie? All I can remember for the last couple years has been remarks about offscreen sex.

Right now I`d give odds 60:40 that she won`t have any interaction with Dean and 90:10 that, if she does, it will be antagonistic.

But your above scenario made me giggle because it reminded me of the DVD commentary to one of the underworld movies where the director is the husband to the main actress and when it came to the steamy onscreen sex scene, you could hear him go "um...yeah...um" in the commentary. I know everyone involved in the buiz has said that shooting those things is the most sexless, unromantic and technical affair possible. Seeing it later, though? That might be a different animal.

ETA:  Bobby is back? Sigh. Maybe they are doing something more than the usual gimmick since the character has the potential to be different now than the one-note shtick of grumpy old guy saying "idjits" a lot.

I have to say that the AU!Bobby was more appealing to me. He didn't seem as I dunno...annoying.

Poor Jim Beaver has said he never thought that would become his "catchphrase". He hated saying it the first time IIRC. LOL

Since they wrote the part for Danneel. I imagine it’ll suit her well.  I’m already intrigued by the one sentence we got in her.

Boo hiss if they turn her into any kind of love interest.  I was hoping fandom was starting to get over the automatic assumption that a pretty woman of child bearing age is automatically there for a hookup.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure there are 5 different fanfics written already with a single line character description.  I just want people to expect more from female characters.

Not sure why you are picking on fandom for wondering if she could be a love interest when the show has a track record of bringing in female characters who do end up being shown as "love interests" in some way be it flirting, non con creepy sexual behavior, and the rare sexy times pairing for either brother. There is some precedence with Genevieve, regardless of story reasons, was brought back to play Jared's wife who hooked up with Sam because she  thought he was her husband.

Thank you.
