Honest to gods, I thought it was a clip from last season when Sam did for a brief shining moment, "search the web" for info on Cain and Abel. It makes no sense that Sam is being surreptitious about this UNLESS it's because Sam is now actually afraid that Dean is going to kill him and he doesn't want to tell Dean that he knows this...

 

which would be the stuff I wanted to have happen last season.....Bah.

I'm kinda getting tired of the whiplash argument about whether they should be hunting or not. One episode Dean decides he shouldn't hunt and Sam has to convince him he should. The next one, Sam thinks Dean shouldn't be hunting and Dean has to convince him. Seems like there are other options on how to start an episode, but maybe that's why I'm not a writer.

Only thing I can think of is that maybe Dean reiterates that he doesn't want to look into it anymore, and Sam doesn't want to make waves? Is it a hint that "we'll do it my way, period" Dean is returning? Because that Dean was kinda scary, and I kinda wouldn't blame Sam for not wanting to step on any toes in that case.

I'm assuming Sam's being secretive ::sigh:: because Dean told him to stop looking for answers a couple episodes back. This way, Dean can now call Sam out on it later in the episode and there can be more forced drama and conflict. It is Supernatural after all.

Only thing I can think of is that maybe Dean reiterates that he doesn't want to look into it anymore, and Sam doesn't want to make waves? Is it a hint that "we'll do it my way, period" Dean is returning? Because that Dean was kinda scary, and I kinda wouldn't blame Sam for not wanting to step on any toes in that case.

 

Eh... I don't know about that. It seems to me Sam HAS to make waves even if he's afraid of Dean. If he doesn't then for someone who just said "Dean is in trouble" and looked like he would do ANYTHING to save him, I would think he'd just ignore Dean's directives anyway. 

 

NOW one fanwank I can come up with is that if Dean puts his foot down about not researching it anymore is that maybe Dean did not really kill Cain and he's afraid Sam will find something in the lore after all that would reveal something about Cain being alive....even though the lore never revealed anything about Cain before....

Dean:  But I'm trying to be in denial here!

What I actually think is weirder is that when Dean was pouring through every book at the Bunker, Sam apparently wasn't even looking up Cain + Mark or something online. What was he doing all that time? Meh.

Secretive Sam -- I think he's going to research in private.  And who knows, maybe he's just going back over stuff he read before.  I think they already mentioned they did a lot of research on Cain earlier in the season.  

Directive Dean - Yeah, I'm feeling the denial but he's not in dictator mode.

Sam's hair - it doesn't really bother me.  I'd like another inch but...meh.. okay.

THE DIALOG:  Holy shit.  Do these guys have competition in the writing room on who can write the smuttiest one-liners.  I watched a second time and decided to listen to what Dean was babbling:

 

DEAN: Porn?

SAM: What? No.It-It's nothing.

DEAN: Hey, look, no judgement from me. Just not where we eat.

SAM: Dude, it wasn't porn.

DEAN: Okay, "erotica", whatever, zip it up.....

The letters TMI come to mind.  It reminds me of how much Whedon used to push the edge on Angel the Series.

I haven't watched the clip yet, so I was just spitballing. Because yeah, I thought they'd made it clear that they'd done a bunch of researching already, so why would Sam be worried that Dean is seeing him look again just in case now? :: Le sigh ::

Doing the research in private is one thing. Obviously HIDING it right in front of Dean compelling Dean to ask if it's porn.....is just... stupid. Why are they doing this again!?  Is the the great journey Sam is going to be on by himself?

I swear it almost seems like they rebooted right back to s9 before Dean became a demon only this time Sam is paying attention to Dean as though the demon thing never happened.  I mean seriously though.  Can we have a conversation between Dean, Sam and Cas as to exactly how and why Dean became a demon so they avoid that again in the future. I mean there is more here than just the MoC lurking. Why am I even asking for these things??

 

Maybe it's a parallel universe or is like Rashomon and that it's from each other's perspectives what happened to Dean.  Actually that would be kind of awesome....but we won't get that lucky

LOL Shouldn't it be a 'Search the Web" doc? I just love the "Search the web" search engine they use. It will never not be funny to me.  With the giant spyglass....

 

And the 'search the web" cloud should be called something "Drop it here".

I was just coming here to post that ...and I have the opposite reaction to Cole. LOL. I don't know what it is about him but I really just do not like him at all. I don't like his cocky attitude considering Dean didn't kill him after he fucking tortured Sam. And I would think Sam would like a piece of him too.  Nope. Cole is going to have save Dean or Sam's life for me to give him any slack.  I'm a cold woman, I know.

I agree. Cole is just such a slimeball. And I know these characters live in a fucked up world, but once someone TORTURES you, aren't you kind of over the idea of working with them? How could Sam stand being around him at all, and how could Dean be OK trusting him enough to work together?

 

If Cole saves Sam's or Dean's life, I will think that maybe Sam and Dean aren't the worst judges of character in the universe or completely unjustified in deciding to work with him. I'll be able to give them (and Cole) that much. But I still don't like him. TBH his slimy good ole boy thing just...UGH. Rubs me the wrong way.

I might be willing to give Dean a pass on him not punching out Cole again considering Dean did kick his ass twice, but Sam? No why in Hell did Sam not just deck him a few times?  Bleh. Bothered me at the end of Girlz, Girlz, Girlz that Sam didn't get some retaliation.  I give Sam a pass because he was busy with demon!Dean in Soul Survivor, but seriously, Sam owes him a beat down.

I actually have that problem from the opposite end. The Winchesters being civil with him, I get. If they can do that with Crowley, they can do that with anyone. Cole hasn`t done a tenth of a percent to them what Crowley has. Also, they`ve been doling out so much torture and violence by now, I figure it`s simply no big deal anymore. Like on Vampire Diaires where people serioulsy do not give a crap on doing the utmost violence to each other and then being the best of buddies.

 

But who I`m not getting here is Cole. Since his father`s death his entire life has been consumed by apparently one thing and one thing only: the vengeance quest against Dean. Then he learned some truths that shattered his world view and after a pep talk from Dean let it go. That alone was a WTF to me. You think Inigo Montoya would have "let it go" like that? I don`t.

 

However, okay, I`ll play along and pretend that makes sense. Yet here in the clip, he is all jovial and seemingly friendly. He could be Garth in that clip. But he is Cole, with the backstory we got on the character. How can he look at them, Dean specifically? How can he be around him without imploding? You don`t simply snap your fingers and forget something that used to shape your entire life from boyhood on.  

 

The Winchesters might have allied up with Crowley a couple times and he did hurt them personally a couple of times but it wasn`t like with Azazel. Because I don`t think they could have ever allied with Azazel, given the givens. Or giving any kind of vibe like Cole does here. Granted, Dean wasn`t the monster Cole thought he was but `just because the rational mind knows this now, doesn`t mean lifelong feelings go away. 

 

I think from the looks of it, Dean`s mind is equally blown by those thoughts. Throughout the clip he sported a look like "what in the everloving fuck, dude?"

Heh. I got that vibe from Dean as well. Almost like he was resisting getting in Cole's face. 

 

And darn you for using "given the givens" because it makes me think of Dark Angel and I really want Jensen at some point to reprise his Alec McDowell role.

Eh, I'm kinda indifferent to Cole at this point. Yeah, giving up his life-long quest doesn't make one ounce of sense. Especially since he decided to give it up because Dean Winchester (the guy who spurred his life-long quest) looked him deep in the eyes and told him to do so. Yeah, don't buy that. But really I don't buy 90 percent of the crap they keep selling, so, I'm just hoping there'll be something else interesting to see here.

 

Anyway, that cat thing...priceless. Those guys are such goofballs, I love it!

I don't see the guys really liking Cole just trying to play nice and Sam is in the guidance role.  Dean is more like whatever dude, we don't need you. 

 

How they put these 3 together is just stupid.  with Crowley I could see it coming and it worked...of course they should kill Crowley now.

 

but Cole...no so much but I will give that this clip is the first time I didn't want to smack him to the other end's of the world.  so I guess he is growing on me like but he is still the nails on the chalkboard.  will have to see if they can make me care.

I don't know what to think.  Dabb's episodes are massive mixed bag. He's written or at least took part in the teleplays of some of my favorites like "Dark Side of the Moon"," Frontierland", "Riechenbach" "Weekend at Bobby's", "Jump the Shark" "Sam Interrupted", What's Up Tiger Mommy with the great Purgatory stuff but then....ugh so many terribad ones including one that no longer exists in my head.  I wonder if the good episodes are with Laughlin vs Dabb on his own....

It's common lore that Cain killed Abel out of jealousy.  Why did Dean never tell Sam that in this case that Cain killed Abel to save him? Jeebus show, why is this a fucking secret other than to create stupid forced separation again?  And why wouldn't Sam just say to Dean..".look,man, I know the lore is that Cain killed Abel..but I don't believe you'll ever kill me, so let's jsut stick together and figure this out" , which then gives Dean the opportunity to explain that Cain did kill Abel but it was to save his brother from making a deal with Lucifer, which, I dunno, might be important to Lucifer's chosen vessel??  I mean JFC, that seems pretty damn obvious to me that should have been discussed.  Arghhh

So Jensen tweeted this picture tonight from the set. He couldn't live tweet the episode and he wished Daneel "Happy Birthday" but I am obsessed with the picture. Dean's hair is longer now. He's covered in blood and look at the helmet above his shoulder on the shelf.  Tell me that isn't a Knight's helmet??

That is part of a knight's helmet, I think. I love that Dean slightly growing his hair out = Demonic! It reminds me of Spiderman 3 and how Emo!Peter = Evil!Peter. LOL.

Dean needs to let the sides grow out a little.  Not excessively like Sam, but I don't care for the shaved head look and if he doesn't have some kind of balance to the longer top, he is going to give Sammy some competition in the weird hair division.

Agreed. He had that a little bit more with demon!Dean. That's why I'm obsessed with his hair length now. What?

Overanalyzing the picture... note how bloody his shirt is.  That's not his blood.  I wonder if he went Stabby McStabberson.  

 

I am hoping that Jensen is giving us a subtle spoiler by showing the Knight's helmet over his shoulder.
