As a former San Diego Charger fan for more years than I care to count, I have no one to root for.  I don't like the Patriots and the Steelers are a soap opera.

That simply shows your good taste.

And IMHO Los Angeles is entirely too team-greedy - especially since they have consistently shown problems with hanging on to every NFL team they’ve had in the past.

It is the holiday season and I have yet to see any commercials for "The Clapper" or "Chia Pets".

I don't know what happened to "Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol".  Given all of the redundant holiday programming, I would have thought for sure Magoo would have been on somewhere.  What would the holidays be without razzleberry dressing?

Even in the itty bitty soccer stadium that the Chargers play in now, they seem to have more opposing fans than Chargers' fans.

From what I have read, if true, the cost of parking at those Chargers games is absurd.

It looks like the Raiders might have to find a temporary home until they can move to Las Vegas.  Apparently San Diego is an option.

It is like a morgue around here, not many people around when TWD is on hiatus.

A couple of Christmas cartoon quizzes.

"How well do you actually remember The Year Without a Santa Claus?"

https://www.metv.com/quiz/how-well-do-you-actually-remember-the-year-without-a-santa-claus

"How well do you actually remember A Charlie Brown Christmas?"

https://www.metv.com/quiz/how-well-do-you-actually-remember-a-charlie-brown-christmas

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some of this food looks really gross.  High School cafeteria food is fine dining compared to some of this stuff.  And, that includes the time a classmate found an earwig (insect) in his hot lunch.  What grossed me out even more is when he went back and told them about the problem and he got another tray of the same food.

"Pick: Would you eat these quirky Christmas dishes from the 1960s?"

https://www.metv.com/quiz/pick-would-you-eat-these-quirky-christmas-dishes-from-the-1960s

IMO, 1959 holiday food looks even worse.

How so?  I mean - if you are a member of the population subset who would consider Mr. Magoo representative of themselves, it’s not like you’re going to see the cartoon anyway....  ;>

speaking of the ocularly impaired...Have ya'll seen the commercials for "Non-24"? This is a condition that blind persons suffer from because their days and nights get mixed up without having the ability to perceive day and night. Ok, I get it, it's a real thing...are there really enough sufferers that we need repetitive commercials for it? I think it's a classic example of how much wasteful spending big pharma has that I see this commercial enough to wonder...hmmm how many (blind) people are "watching" enough tv to stumble across this commercial. I know it's stupid to say that blind people cannot or do not "watch" television because I'm sure they do, there's enough story to follow without the visuals but if I see this commercial as often as I see the one for heartburn or cialis or...um the one that squicks me out about skin stuff (again, I know if you have psoriasis it's a big deal and I'm not judging psoriais-isers the commercial where everyone is feeling everyone up just makes me cringe)

Yes the answer to the question is I watch toooo much television but I think the non 24 sufferers get this info from their doctors don't they? they're not just wandering around all depressed going "why oh why can't i tell day from night?" There are many things I don't think need a commercial and I'm sure there are much more important questions in the universe but my brain isn't hooked up right.

I gather the issue is for some of the totally blind, their circadian rhythm sleep patterns get far enough out of whack from the mainstream for them to have conflicts between getting sufficient sleep AND functioning through normal workday hours - in which case, it’s the totally-blind’s equivalent to insomnia.

Instead of spending $15K a month for whatever Wonder Drug of the Week is currently being featured, though, I suspect most would rather opt to fork out $25-$30 for a louder alarm clock.

Yes, I get that, again, are there so many that we must advertise rather than just get them the alarm clock? I know there's folks in Alaska who get the Sads, aka Seasonal Affective Disorder, where there's not enough sun in the winter and people get them sunlamps and I guess that don't work for the blind but it just seems the frequency with which I see this commercial makes me think there's a real big flare up of blindness. I started paying attention to the prescription drug commercials when they started listing all the bad side effects which to me far outway whatever it is the drug is supposed to solve. anywho I realize I'm just cuckoo nutto

I suspect with (a) the current opioid crackdown and (b) all the bad press Bug Pharma is getting for unilateral 5000% price jack-ups on certain life-necessary meds, BPh is simply scrambling to find its next big cash cow - but hey, maybe that’s just me.  ;>

P.S.: When I was in Anchorage, they alternated between SAD and “sun fever”.  :)

They came up with a unique way to cut the winter suicide rate by about 1/3, though.

The Anchorage merchants all leave their Christmas lights up throughout the winter.  :)

I could have sworn that this cartoon used to have a scene in it with Hermie at elf choir practice.

11/11.  And Hermie skipping elf practice (preferring instead to give the dolls teeth) is how he got in trouble with his boss and quit in the first place.

Hermie was a tenor, btw.  ;)

Btw, do you have a facebook account? There are quite a few ex amc people on a couple of groups there. The groups are what is known as closed groups so only people in the group can see anything that you might post there.  I learned how to use all that and that's where I've been mostly. I also leaned how to lock down the overall security settings so that I am fairly private on there even if I am not posting to a specific group. When the Chargers played in San Diego against the Raiders, it always seemed like there were more Raiders' fans than Chargers' fans.

One of the arguments that I have heard often about the old stadium the Chargers used to play in, is that since it was a multi-purpose stadium, some of the seats had poor sight lines when it came to watching football games. Plus, that stadium was pretty darn old.

One of the things I like to do around the Christmas season, is walk around the neighborhood and look at all of the Christmas lights and decorations.  I don't know what the heck happened this year.  Most of the Christmas lights I see are white.  If I wanted to see white lights I could have stayed home and stared at my lamp.

Lol,

Ice white or the mellow warm white lights have been all the rage here in the U.K for the past few years, long gone are the multi coloured ones, but as with everything I’m sure they’ll be popular again in a year or two. Now that vinyl LPs are back in vogue I think I’ll get them out of the loft and hopefully make a nice profit out of some wannabe trend setter.

It is just a personal preference thing, but I have always preferred the sound from vinyl more so than any other medium.  A few drawbacks.  The albums can scratch and they can easily warp.  I don't have a record player, and I haven't listened to vinyl in years.

The one thing I have noticed this season is far fewer inflatable Christmas lawn decorations.

One year, there was neighbor that had a wooden deer on their front lawn that was so big, that it was taller than their single story home.

Almost always, yes.  About the only modifying factor is extreme weather - ours is an open-air stadium, no roof.

Used to - and still do, when it’s one of the big rivalries.  When we played the Patriots at home, for example, the crowd was simply unbelievable.  Great turnouts on the AFC South division matchups, too.  And every Titans fan loves to watch our team stomp the Jags - it’s a tradition.    :)

P. S.:  I was at this evening’s game against Washington, and I think I left my voice there.

Hey - if you want them to hear you from the 300s, you gotta WORK for it.  ;>

I’ve never been able to hear the difference to be honest, I always thought you had to have a $50,000 sound system but it’s probably my cheap ears. I used to like the album covers and reading the bumpf, but as for the records all I remember is chasing a line of dust around the disc with one of those black felt things, it would move it around but wouldn’t pick it up.

As with most things, we copy what you guys do after a time and the old National Lampoon house decoration did take

I remember that brush and I remember a little bottle of fluid that came with ours that you dribbled on the brush so that it picked up the dust -- In other words, it wasn't you it was your equipment.

I had one of those felt cleaning brushes too, and there was a trick to it; the felt on the pad had a “grain” (all the fibers laying in one direction), and that made a difference.  Sweep with the brush going forward against the felt’s grain, and it would pick up the dust; sweep with the grain, and you’re just moving dust around in a circle.  :)

I have been searching high and low and still cannot find out the name of this movie that I think was made in the 70s.  Could be one of those old movies of the week type movies.  It would help if I could remember a cast member, but I can't.  I know I have posted this on the messageboards somewhere here before, but I don't think anyone had heard of the movie..

1970s movie plot:

Friends go camping in the woods.

They hear on the radio about a hijacker who jumped out of a plane escaping with cash.

They stumble on a dude in the woods.  One of the friends shoots the dude, thinking he is the hijacker.

After doing a bit of searching they find the money in his belongings.

They proceed to fight over the money.

One by one the friends turn on each other, killing each other over the money.

=====

Turner Classic Movies has Deliverance on: 12/26/18 10:00pm est.  I am already having "Dueling Banjos" running through my head.

Turner Classic Movies has The Longest Yard (1972) 12/27/18 12:00am est.  This is the original, not that horrible Adam Sandler remake.  Of course, IMO, what Sandler movie wasn't horrible.

I have my DVR set.

Nothing beyond a team jersey; I’ll let you decide whether or not that constitutes “dress up”.  :>

Nissan Stadium is pretty much midsize by current NFL standards; about 69K+ seats for football games.   When it was originally built it was one of the smaller NFL stadiums, but the trend over the years for replacement stadiums has been downsized seating capacities. Makes it easier to legitimately claim sell-outs, donchaknow.  ;)

Nah.  Nissan Stadium and the Titans are in Nashville; the Vols play at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville.  The Volunteers are the school team for UT Knoxville - and yes, the University of Tennessee was UT about 90 years before the University of Texas was even thought of.  ;)

Wearing jerseys isn't a big deal, unless you are at an opposing team's stadium.  Sometimes opposing fans take things way too far, causing trouble, fighting.  Especially if they have had too much to drink.  Sometimes it won't even take that.

ETA:  The television cameras usually focus on the fans with the most unique outfits, or on those fans that go shirtless in really cold temperatures.

Yeah, Stubhub’s known to be the smallest; at 27K, it’s about 2/3rds the NFL’s current acceptable minimum (40K).

There must have been some sort of rerun after its first airing in 1973, because it would have been impossible for me to watch it that year.

They are just waiting for the Rams new stadium to be built so they can move in with them.  It doesn't make a lot of sense to me, they didn't have a huge fan base to begin with and they pissed off a bunch of the fans they used to have when they moved.  I seriously doubt that they will have much luck selling PSL's.

Personally, I hope they don’t have ANY luck.  With the sole exception of the current Rams romp in LA, the city has multiple times proven itself incapable of long-term support for any NFL team.  The LA city administration can pitch deals good enough to get teams there, but the fan base doesn’t show up enough to keep a team- and IMHO they certainly haven’t shown the capacity to support TWO teams, nor demonstrated to the NFL they deserve the chance to do so.  Not over more deserving fan bases in cities which don’t have a single team, at least. Spread the love around, NFL!

(Spoken by someone who watched the NFL skip over Nashville multiple times for YEARS, claiming there wasn’t - and would likely never be - enough of an NFL fan base in Nashville to support a franchise.  #TitanUP)

I guess they flexed the Titans game to Sunday night.  That has to be horrible for those who had plans to go to the game at an earlier time.  It is great for those people who don't go to games.

Have you ever had a game that you were going to see all of a sudden flexed?  It would suck.

To be fair  (it is the internet so what does fair have to do with it)  the Titans used to be the Houston Oilers.  So Houston did lose their team, much like Baltimore lost theirs to Indianapolis, Cleveland lost theirs to Baltimore, St. Louis lost their team to Phoenix/Arizona,  The LA Rams lost theirs to St. Louis,  St. Louis lost theirs back to LA,  the Raiders just can't seem to stay put.  Cleveland and Houston did get new teams.  I don't think San Diego ever will get another team.  I do wonder how much longer San Diego is going to have Comic-Con.

In truth, much of it depends on how much local support (fans AND municipal) the team has with its home locale.  IIRC most of the city-franchise contracts have boilerplate clauses which state the owner can't move the team unless a season’s average game attendance falls below a certain percentage of available tickets/seats - so as long as the fans buy tickets and show up, they have nothing to worry about.  It’s when the fans stop buying tickets that problems start developing which might result in a move.

Other than that I also got an insta-pot so I'm gonna learn some zen cooking.

Have you made anything yet in your insta-pot?  How did it turn out?

This will be the second time this year; I’ve been a Titans season ticket holder for several years.  :>

I will root for your Titans tonight.  I had been a San Diego Chargers fan for decades.  The choking dogs that they were, so you might want me to root for the Colts instead.

I was reading some comments at another site, and they don't seem to like Taylor Lewan too much.  I am not sure why.   I have been watching the NFL as a casual fan since the Chargers moved, so I don't really know  all that much about what is going on with teams.  That said, I do keep the TV on the Redzone channel on Sunday afternoons as background noise.  At least it is commercial free.  I do wonder how that dude on that channel can stand there for seven hours straight without commercials.  Does he have a urinal under the podium?  Does he wear adult Huggies?  Who doesn't pee for seven hours?

I did have a FB account using a false ID, it lasted until they wanted a copy of my driving licence, yeah right!

I know the old ‘RadioShack’ crowd went to........ Sammy’s group was it?  I was never one of the RS people, we had our own little gang, alas no more. I just can’t bring myself to put any faith in that NSA stooge.

someone musta tried to scam you. You do not have to provide driver license. I even created a totally fake fb using a made up name and a free email address i used strictly for that purpose. I had an old Netzero.net account laying around from the dialup days so I used that email.

It was no scam judging by what others have said with the same problem, my fake I’d was working perfectly until something triggered some doubt as to my real self, when they send peoples info to the Agencies it probably gets sent back with ‘this person doesn’t exist, find out who he is and try again!’  Stamped on it 🕵️‍♂️
